- [00:00:05.238]I am an assistant professor of practice
- [00:00:08.458]in the EDAD program here at UNL.
- [00:00:12.112]I'm on the PK side of things,
- [00:00:15.198]and my expertize lie in district
- [00:00:18.868]level management and the superintendency.
- [00:00:22.522]I joined the UNL staff this past August.
- [00:00:27.444]Prior to that,
- [00:00:28.161]I served as an executive director
- [00:00:30.714]for the Fort Calhoun Community Schools
- [00:00:33.183]Foundation, along with
- [00:00:35.101]being an adjunct professor
- [00:00:37.070]for the University of Nebraska
- [00:00:38.722]at Omaha
- [00:00:39.272]in their Educational Leadership program.
- [00:00:42.025]Before that,
- [00:00:42.709]I was in administration for 30 years
- [00:00:46.262]at the Fort Calhoun Community Schools.
- [00:00:49.682]20 of those years
- [00:00:50.667]as a secondary principal in charge of
- [00:00:55.321]staff development and school improvement
- [00:00:58.458]and then I moved on
- [00:00:59.576]to the superintendent role
- [00:01:00.977]where I served as ten years.
- [00:01:02.879]In that time,
- [00:01:04.247]we did a lot of reconstruction
- [00:01:07.167]and building,
- [00:01:07.767]so I got to dip my feet
- [00:01:09.619]into that whole construction world.
- [00:01:11.037]So it felt like I was working
- [00:01:12.322]two jobs at the same time.
- [00:01:14.724]Preceding that,
- [00:01:16.593]I was a industrial art
- [00:01:18.478]and science teacher
- [00:01:19.579]at two different schools.
- [00:01:21.264]My favorite part
- [00:01:22.048]about working here at UNL.
- [00:01:24.768]First, it's a dream
- [00:01:26.152]come true.
- [00:01:26.897]To think about that
- [00:01:28.404]I am at the primary university,
- [00:01:30.557]one of the primary universities
- [00:01:32.425]in the Midwest.
- [00:01:34.761]I also appreciate the fact
- [00:01:37.614]that this faculty and staff here
- [00:01:39.983]in the department
- [00:01:41.117]are folks
- [00:01:41.701]that care about each other greatly
- [00:01:43.937]and also care about their students.
- [00:01:46.823]The professionalism in the department
- [00:01:48.925]has inspired me
- [00:01:49.943]to really work at being a better teacher
- [00:01:53.363]and at bringing up my level of expertize
- [00:01:58.051]so that I can be a
- [00:02:00.303]good, good team member.
- [00:02:01.971]I think successful students are students
- [00:02:03.923]who are passionate about kids.
- [00:02:07.410]I think they are also students who
- [00:02:09.746]think outside of the box.
- [00:02:13.316]I think they
- [00:02:14.250]also are
- [00:02:15.168]students who show servant leadership
- [00:02:18.922]and that they are always looking out
- [00:02:20.840]for the best interests of their students.
- [00:02:23.092]And they're not afraid of hard work.
- [00:02:25.612]And being a reflective learner.
