[00:00:05.580]Welcome to the exciting start of the 2022-23 academic year
[00:00:10.470]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:00:13.470]I'm taking in view up here in the Love Library cupola,
[00:00:16.710]because I wanted to encourage us all to collectively enter
[00:00:20.340]this new academic year with a fresh, renewed and maybe
[00:00:24.240]renergized perspective for the new academic year.
[00:00:28.350]A lot has happened over the past three years, which have
[00:00:31.500]seemingly been full of multiple disruptors and required
[00:00:35.400]pivot points and adaptation.
[00:00:38.070]While we can always expect to encounter challenges in this
[00:00:41.430]world, we have clearly turned a corner from where we have
[00:00:44.880]been over these last few highly unusual academic years,
[00:00:49.560]under what may have seemed like curveball conditions of the
[00:00:52.530]time.
[00:00:53.610]And that is calls in and of itself to be excited for this
[00:00:58.470]new normal year.
[00:01:01.110]We are here at the university to do big things and to make a
[00:01:04.680]big impact.
[00:01:06.240]Like earning one of the largest research grants in our
[00:01:09.570]history to lead the US physics community at the Large Hadron
[00:01:13.350]Collider in Switzerland.
[00:01:15.360]Or breaking a university record for the most Gilman
[00:01:17.880]International Scholarship recipients.
[00:01:20.010]Or continuing to be a world leading institution. across so
[00:01:23.850]many areas of research and development important to Nebraska
[00:01:27.960]and the world.
[00:01:28.000]This fall, we opened a brand new Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall,
[00:01:30.850]built from the ground up on the side of the formal Mabel Lee
[00:01:36.790]Hall.
[00:01:37.690]And on East Campus, the addition to the Barkley Center and a
[00:01:41.050]newly fully expanded renovated Schmid Law Library for
[00:01:45.250]Nebraska Law.
[00:01:47.020]Architecture Hall is in the final completion of new expanded
[00:01:50.590]design studios and major building renovations for our
[00:01:53.860]College of Architecture.
[00:01:55.960]We will dedicate the new veterans tribute or Memorial Plaza
[00:01:59.200]on 9/11.
[00:02:00.820]And major construction continues on to other mammoth record
[00:02:04.630]breaking campus building projects:
[00:02:06.880]The transformation for the College of Engineering with the
[00:02:09.880]Kiewit Hall.
[00:02:11.350]Addition of the new now complete Engineering Research
[00:02:14.500]Center.
[00:02:14.890]And renovation of the Scott Engineering Center, and next to
[00:02:18.550]the hallowed Memorial Stadium behind me the Go Big North
[00:02:22.030]expansion project that will create the future of Nebraska
[00:02:25.810]athletics.
[00:02:27.160]These are just the beginning of a long list of major
[00:02:29.950]investments to grow and renew our UNL campuses in our N2025
[00:02:35.080]plan.
[00:02:35.830]We're only able to do big things because of amazing people.

[00:03:34.270]clinics this year.
[00:03:35.860]Welcome to our UNL family.
[00:03:38.020]And I can't wait to see the impact you have on our students
[00:03:41.560]and our research scholarship and creative activity.
[00:03:44.900]And in July, Andy Belser joined us as the new dean of the
[00:03:48.380]Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
[00:03:51.050]And I know that Andy already has big things planned ahead.
[00:03:55.550]To our returning students, welcome back.
[00:03:58.580]I know you will continue to make the most of your one of a
[00:04:01.370]kind Husker experience.
