[00:00:02.880]and I'm a recent graduate from the University
[00:00:05.700]of Nebraska Lincoln with a major in integrated sciences
[00:00:09.000]and a concentration in agricultural economics.
[00:00:11.970]This summer, I was one
[00:00:13.140]of the rural fellas working with rural housing.
[00:00:16.288]I worked with Dr. Mary Emery,
[00:00:18.570]who is the director of RPN.
[00:00:20.850]So we worked on issues affecting rural housing.
[00:00:24.828]We did a literature review looking
[00:00:27.450]into what other researchers have worked
[00:00:30.390]on when it comes to rural housing.
[00:00:33.150]We looked into the terms like
[00:00:36.108]rural sustainability, workforce immigration, and how
[00:00:39.957]all those factors are affecting rural housing in general.
[00:00:44.340]We also touched on modular housing and looking
[00:00:47.340]into how that can be applied into rural communities
[00:00:50.880]and how affordable and applicable that type of housing is.
[00:00:57.614]That's one of a few keywords we looked into.
[00:01:01.710]So in addition, we interviewed people
[00:01:04.140]from rural communities that was directly involved
[00:01:07.320]with different projects,
[00:01:11.580]different rural housing projects, to kind of see what worked
[00:01:14.790]and what didn't work.
[00:01:15.870]We interviewed them to get an understanding of,
[00:01:20.610]if a project was success, what made it a success?
[00:01:23.854]And if it didn't work, why?
[00:01:26.820]Why they think it did not work?
[00:01:29.310]So with that, we kind of gained
[00:01:30.990]a perspective of
[00:01:35.948]what leaders in rural housing are thinking.
[00:01:38.460]And kind of gain a little bit of experience
[00:01:42.060]on what worked.
[00:01:45.030]This project it is important
[00:01:46.380]for the future of the communities
[00:01:48.210]because we're hoping
[00:01:49.340]to create something that would help communities looking
[00:01:54.480]towards achieving rural housing sustainability.
[00:01:56.970]They could have something to look at,
[00:01:58.920]something to base onto when creating those projects.
[00:02:01.800]So by looking at probably what worked in other communities,
[00:02:05.700]they could get a sense of what they could do
[00:02:08.040]in the future, or what they could avoid
[00:02:12.689]to make the housing sustainability a success.
[00:02:15.960]As an inclusive leader,
[00:02:17.130]this experience has been eyeopening
[00:02:21.390]and influential to me as a researcher.
[00:02:24.690]And also as an individual, working with Dr. Emery,
[00:02:27.810]I've been learning every day
[00:02:29.819]what it means to actually be a researcher.
[00:02:33.060]What to focus on, what not to focus on.
[00:02:35.640]And especially in terms of providing interviews,
[00:02:39.510]I learned what keywords to use.
[00:02:41.400]So this was definitely a growing experience on my end.

[00:02:48.510]that this experience will be influential mostly
[00:02:51.210]in the future
[00:02:53.168]when I get to enter the workforce
