- [00:00:11.311]I'm a former special education teacher,
- [00:00:13.830]and I have a strong
- [00:00:14.659]interest in
- [00:00:15.339]early childhood education
- [00:00:16.683]from preschool through third grade.
- [00:00:19.285]I've been in the department since 2016.
- [00:00:22.672]My research
- [00:00:23.306]focuses on how school
- [00:00:24.507]and community leaders
- [00:00:25.458]get the conditions right
- [00:00:26.426]for collective action,
- [00:00:27.711]whether that's
- [00:00:28.228]school improvement
- [00:00:29.012]or improving services
- [00:00:30.063]for children and families.
- [00:00:32.148]Currently, I'm working on developing
- [00:00:33.900]Nebraska Cares,
- [00:00:35.035]which is going to be a hub for community
- [00:00:36.653]engage research
- [00:00:37.587]in education and well-being.
- [00:00:41.941]I do a lot of engagement
- [00:00:43.159]work in rural education research,
- [00:00:45.378]including
- [00:00:46.536]the American Research Association,
- [00:00:48.553]Rural Education Special Interest Group,
- [00:00:50.633]where I am the program co-chair.
- [00:00:52.952]I also serve in an editorial board
- [00:00:55.255]of a rural journal,
- [00:00:56.372]and I also am engaged in service here
- [00:00:59.059]at the university
- [00:00:59.876]as an executive
- [00:01:01.344]committee member of the UNL Senate.
- [00:01:03.413]I primarily advise in the EDD program,
- [00:01:05.665]although I also have some PhD students.
- [00:01:08.151]I teach courses in systems
- [00:01:09.619]level of school
- [00:01:10.136]improvement
- [00:01:10.920]workforce, community
- [00:01:12.205]and economic development
- [00:01:14.040]policy and politics
- [00:01:17.026]and qualitative research.
- [00:01:19.562]When I think about a successful student
- [00:01:21.181]in the EDD program,
- [00:01:22.382]I think about someone who sees
- [00:01:23.633]the problems in their context
- [00:01:25.068]and is curious to learn more about
- [00:01:26.870]how to solve them
- [00:01:27.837]through their own
- [00:01:28.338]professional knowledge
- [00:01:29.339]and research and theory.
- [00:01:30.573]My favorite part of the EDAD Department
- [00:01:32.642]is that everyone is supportive
- [00:01:34.494]and wants everyone else
- [00:01:35.462]to succeed, from colleagues to students,
- [00:01:37.947]and that's why I'm here.
