- [00:00:03.510]Hi, welcome to a new session of Husker Hub Explains.
- [00:00:05.760]We hope these videos work as a visual resource for you
- [00:00:08.790]to help answer any questions
- [00:00:10.500]about handling the business side of being a student at UNL.
- [00:00:14.357]In this video we'll be going over how to accept or decline
- [00:00:17.760]any financial aid awards that you have been offered,
- [00:00:21.300]and we'll be doing so through the MyRED portal.
- [00:00:25.170]We'll get started on the MyRED homepage.
- [00:00:28.020]Your page may look a little different than this
- [00:00:30.240]but you'll wanna look for the financial aid tab
- [00:00:32.880]and select the accept slash decline award
- [00:00:35.610]or view financial aid.
- [00:00:37.920]You'll then be brought to this page
- [00:00:39.720]where your offered awards will be shown
- [00:00:41.910]that are not yet accepted.
- [00:00:43.770]There's also a section for your accepted awards,
- [00:00:46.830]other resources, as well as the total awards for the year.
- [00:00:53.790]To accept or decline your awards
- [00:00:55.800]you'll select this blue box here.
- [00:00:59.400]You'll then select the correct aid year.
- [00:01:03.060]And you'll be brought to this page
- [00:01:04.800]with your rights and responsibilities
- [00:01:07.230]as a student that is going to be accepting
- [00:01:09.900]and borrowing federal financial aid or scholarships.
- [00:01:13.800]It's important to read through every section,
- [00:01:16.260]as it pertains to eligibility information,
- [00:01:19.980]and more importantly, satisfactory academic progress,
- [00:01:24.030]which has to do with eligibility for federal financial aid.
- [00:01:27.690]We strongly encourage
- [00:01:28.860]that students read through each section
- [00:01:30.870]and this certification statement before selecting continue.
- [00:01:35.940]Once you select continue,
- [00:01:37.230]this disbursement authorization page will appear,
- [00:01:40.420]asking if you understand that these funds
- [00:01:42.930]are automatically applied to your student account
- [00:01:45.060]to pay for educational expenses.
- [00:01:47.730]Once you hit, I understand, you'll be brought
- [00:01:50.130]to the page with your financial aid awards.
- [00:01:53.100]This message up top shows
- [00:01:54.690]that you cannot accept the Parent Plus loan here,
- [00:01:57.180]but rather parents will have to do a separate application.
- [00:02:00.870]You will have the option
- [00:02:01.860]to either accept the full amount, accept a lower amount,
- [00:02:05.640]or decline.
- [00:02:07.050]Just please note that the amount that is accepted
- [00:02:09.930]will split in half for fall and spring semester.
- [00:02:13.110]So remember that when entering a certain amount
- [00:02:15.840]that you want to accept.
- [00:02:17.460]And if you wish to decline the Parent Plus loan,
- [00:02:19.770]you can do so.
- [00:02:21.390]You'll need to hit submit to make sure
- [00:02:23.670]these award actions go through.
- [00:02:25.920]And once you do a message will appear
- [00:02:28.110]at the top with, the awards have been saved.
- [00:02:31.560]And you can go back to the financial aid menu
- [00:02:34.350]to see in your accepted awards that it went through.
- [00:02:37.920]As you can see, the Parent Plus loan is no longer there
- [00:02:40.440]since it was declined, but it can still be applied for
- [00:02:43.440]through the studentaid.gov website by the parent.
- [00:02:46.980]You are a student that plans to graduate in December
- [00:02:50.340]and you are currently accepting financial aid
- [00:02:53.430]for the upcoming fall semester,
- [00:02:55.740]the process will look a little bit different.
- [00:02:58.710]You will still go in
- [00:02:59.700]and select accept slash decline rewards,
- [00:03:02.640]and then the appropriate academic year.
- [00:03:05.160]You will again be presented
- [00:03:06.900]with the rights and responsibilities page
- [00:03:09.600]which you'll wanna make sure you read through
- [00:03:11.640]as well as the certification statement.
- [00:03:14.550]And once you've read through everything
- [00:03:16.140]you can select continue.
- [00:03:18.000]You will then be asked
- [00:03:19.020]if you will plan to graduate in December.
- [00:03:22.020]If you plan to graduate in December, just please note
- [00:03:25.170]that your financial aid for spring would be canceled.
- [00:03:29.040]If you are uncertain
- [00:03:30.240]of your plans at this time, you may answer no
- [00:03:33.270]and you may update your response at a later time
- [00:03:36.360]by sending an email to financialaid@unl.edu
- [00:03:41.430]updating them of your graduation plans.
- [00:03:44.490]If you answer no and apply for December graduation,
- [00:03:47.310]your spring financial aid will be canceled
- [00:03:50.100]after you apply for graduation.
- [00:03:52.380]So please remember this when selecting which option.
- [00:03:55.800]So if you will be graduating in December,
- [00:03:58.230]you will select yes, and you will go in
- [00:04:01.020]to accept your financial aid as normal.
- [00:04:04.260]For example, if you are accepting the full amount
- [00:04:07.560]and you will only receive the fall portion of it
- [00:04:11.001]and the financial aid office will take care
- [00:04:13.650]of automatically updating your financial aid awards
- [00:04:17.070]to fall only.
- [00:04:18.330]So you would accept it as normal for the entire year.
- [00:04:22.260]And again, select submit
- [00:04:24.750]once you are finished with each action.
- [00:04:27.390]If for any reason your graduation plans change
- [00:04:30.510]and you will no longer be graduating in December,
- [00:04:34.197]please also reach out to our office
- [00:04:36.480]so that we can update the financial aid office.
- [00:04:40.080]Or you can send an email again to financialaid@unl.edu.
- [00:04:45.540]That concludes everything for this video.
- [00:04:47.520]Should you want to look
