- [00:00:03.300]Hi there.
- [00:00:04.200]Welcome to Husker Hub Explains.
- [00:00:05.340]My name's Dan and I am a Student Services Specialist
- [00:00:07.680]in Husker Hub.
- [00:00:08.790]In this Husker Hub Explains video
- [00:00:10.020]I'll be discussing federal work study or FWS
- [00:00:12.780]in financial aid shorthand.
- [00:00:14.323]Both how students are qualified
- [00:00:16.170]based on demonstration and need
- [00:00:17.640]from their FAFSA application,
- [00:00:19.530]as well as how initially FWS qualified students
- [00:00:22.680]can maintain their eligibility in subsequent years.
- [00:00:25.560]The Federal Work Study Program, FWS,
- [00:00:27.330]provides part-time jobs during the academic year
- [00:00:29.730]for students who demonstrate exceptional financial need
- [00:00:32.400]and who must earn a part of their educational expenses.
- [00:00:35.040]Jobs will be on-campus or off-campus.
- [00:00:37.410]Part-time federal work study students work
- [00:00:39.480]10 to 20 hours per week
- [00:00:40.710]and will receive a paycheck every two weeks bi-weekly
- [00:00:43.410]for the actual number of hours worked.
- [00:00:45.180]Federal work study funds are awarded
- [00:00:46.890]on a first come first complete basis
- [00:00:48.570]to qualified financial aid applicants.
- [00:00:50.580]For federal work study eligible students,
- [00:00:52.170]this is how their federal work study award will appear
- [00:00:54.090]on their financial aid package.
- [00:00:56.291]FWS awarding will appear in the additional aid sources
- [00:00:57.990]section of their award letter
- [00:00:59.220]and will indicate the maximum amount per semester
- [00:01:01.320]that the student can earn
- [00:01:02.460]through working with a federal work study employer.
- [00:01:04.710]Very important to note, the FWS values denoted
- [00:01:07.530]on the financial aid award are not funds to be anticipated
- [00:01:10.200]at the time of financial aid disbursement.
- [00:01:12.210]As the amount of work study indicated there
- [00:01:13.920]can only be earned and paid to the student via employment
- [00:01:17.190]and a biweekly direct deposit payment
- [00:01:19.380]up to the amount indicated on the award package.
- [00:01:21.780]For the summer terms,
- [00:01:22.710]there are two types of federal work study options.
- [00:01:24.480]Full-time federal work study is only available
- [00:01:26.124]if students are not enrolled in any summer courses.
- [00:01:28.770]Please bear in mind
- [00:01:29.603]that the majority of that full-time federal work study
- [00:01:31.560]is mostly aimed towards students
- [00:01:33.810]that are in the law program.
- [00:01:35.010]For students who are eligible for federal work study,
- [00:01:37.050]undergraduate students must be enrolled
- [00:01:38.550]at least halftime six credit hours,
- [00:01:40.140]and that there is not much federal work study availability
- [00:01:42.510]for summer semester sessions.
- [00:01:44.130]Finding a work study job can be competitive
- [00:01:46.200]but career services is there to help students
- [00:01:48.570]through that process.
- [00:01:49.530]Students can reach out to them@careerservicesatunl.edu
- [00:01:52.830]or contact them by phone at (402) 472-3145

- [00:01:58.380]like resumes and as well as guidance on how to use
- [00:02:00.870]Nebraska's student job listing system, Handshake.
