- [00:00:06.300]Just like every year,
- [00:00:07.500]this year we have included a corn demonstration project.
- [00:00:11.040]Means industry will submit
- [00:00:13.980]three to four best herbicide portfolio
- [00:00:16.740]and then we compare here with other treatments.
- [00:00:19.620]So the idea and objective in this project
- [00:00:21.600]was just to see what is available commercially
- [00:00:25.320]and growers can choose which herbicide program
- [00:00:27.840]they can select based on the results here.
- [00:00:30.060]So this is like an unbiased comparison
- [00:00:32.910]of herbicide treatments that are submitted
- [00:00:35.220]by different industry in corn production.
- [00:00:38.670]So this project, particularly this plot,
- [00:00:41.820]we have like untreated control,
- [00:00:43.710]means we do not apply any herbicide.
- [00:00:46.230]Just to give you an idea
- [00:00:47.370]about how strong Palmer amaranth weed pressure
- [00:00:50.880]we do have in this research station.
- [00:00:55.320]So if we do not apply any herbicide
- [00:00:57.570]or if we do not control weeds,
- [00:00:59.670]then yeah, this Palmer amaranth is going to take over
- [00:01:02.430]and looks like we will have very few grains
- [00:01:05.850]to harvest in this plot.
- [00:01:07.530]This is a good example
- [00:01:08.760]of only single pass post emergence herbicide program.
- [00:01:13.860]For example, Anthem Maxx was mixed with Callisto
- [00:01:18.390]and Atrazine and Status
- [00:01:20.250]and it was applied early post emergence
- [00:01:22.080]and it has provided relatively good weed control.
- [00:01:25.800]Some Palmer amaranth is emerging now
- [00:01:29.250]because now there is a lack of moisture
- [00:01:32.244]and it just the way Palmer amaranth is,
- [00:01:36.930]there is a late season emergence of Palmer is also possible
- [00:01:41.610]even up to the end of August in South Central Nebraska.
- [00:01:44.430]So Palmer amaranth is difficult to control
- [00:01:46.560]with single pass herbicide program.
- [00:01:49.890]And reason is because it can emerge
- [00:01:52.800]during multiple times up to the end of August
- [00:01:56.910]so that it has a very long emergence window.
- [00:02:00.450]For example, in this project
- [00:02:02.970]Harness Maxx was applied pre-emergence
- [00:02:05.190]and then it was followed by Shieldex
- [00:02:07.950]and Aatrex post emergence
- [00:02:09.720]and relatively good weed control.
- [00:02:12.270]There are some Palmer amaranth has started emerging now.
- [00:02:15.480]In this project, Acuron was applied pre emergence
- [00:02:18.690]and it was followed by Halex GT,
- [00:02:21.750]which includes glyphosate,
- [00:02:24.240]so generally very good weed control in this plot.
- [00:02:29.370]Some late emerging Palmer amaranth is coming up now,
- [00:02:33.750]and some of them even have started flowering
- [00:02:38.460]which is one more point
- [00:02:41.460]that can make Palmer amaranth
- [00:02:43.230]different than other weed species
- [00:02:44.838]is it has very difference in flowering phenology.
- [00:02:51.270]Some of the plants can start emerging early,
- [00:02:54.990]some of the plants can start flowering early
- [00:02:58.050]and some plants can flower later in the season.
- [00:03:01.170]So that is how Palmer amaranth is surviving
- [00:03:05.700]and they can outcross with other plants.
- [00:03:11.130]This is one of the best herbicide programs.
- [00:03:13.890]For example, Resicore was applied at two quarts per acre,
- [00:03:17.070]pre-emergence within couple of days of planting corn
- [00:03:20.580]and then post emergence application of Resicore,
- [00:03:25.140]Status and Artazine.
- [00:03:29.460]And it has provided really good weed control
- [00:03:32.520]very minimum new emergence of Palmer amaranth.
- [00:03:36.945]TriVolt is a new premix herbicide,
- [00:03:41.910]came to the market recently.
- [00:03:44.490]That is a good combination of three herbicides.
- [00:03:48.060]We can consider TriVolt as a next generation of Corvus
- [00:03:52.020]because it's not only high in (indistinct) methyl
- [00:03:55.380]but it also has flufenacet
- [00:03:58.530]as well as one more ALS emitting herbicide.
- [00:04:02.310]So it makes it really good robust herbicide,
- [00:04:05.580]and you can also tank mix with Atrazine
- [00:04:07.590]and it has given really good weed control,
- [00:04:10.680]it is hard to see any we in this program.
- [00:04:14.658]In this plot Dual two Magnum was applied pre-emergence,
- [00:04:20.550]but the focus here is like Tough R,
- [00:04:23.640]which is a premix of Tough
- [00:04:26.760]which is Pyridate based herbicide.
- [00:04:28.960]It is mixed with (indistinct)
- [00:04:30.990]like active radiant in Callisto was mixed with Atrazine
- [00:04:34.680]and Roundup and it has provided really good weed control
- [00:04:39.000]and good weed suppression until now
- [00:04:41.970]and this is a good herbicide program
- [00:04:44.370]to consider for corn production.
- [00:04:47.220]So the take home message from this project
- [00:04:49.320]is we have a number of herbicide options available in corn,
- [00:04:53.190]depending on which species you have
- [00:04:55.020]and how much you want to spend on each herbicide program.
- [00:04:58.530]You can select any program basically out of this,
- [00:05:01.740]and again, remember to include herbicides
- [00:05:04.890]with multiple (indistinct) in your oral herbicide program
- [00:05:08.160]and that will be the key to reduce the weed seed production
- [00:05:11.490]and management of multiple herbicide resistant weeds.
