- [00:00:00.970]Hello, and welcome to
- [00:00:02.567]"Joining Culturally-Based Fraternal Organizations"
- [00:00:05.490]at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:00:08.356]If you are able,
- [00:00:09.660]you can use the QR code at the bottom of the screen
- [00:00:12.755]for your student to receive additional information
- [00:00:18.054]or opportunities to chat with our organizations
- [00:00:21.640]and learn about some programs that we'll be doing
- [00:00:24.472]in the fall semester.
- [00:00:26.861]But before we get started
- [00:00:28.963]we first would like to do a land acknowledgement.
- [00:00:32.979]The University of Nebraska is
- [00:00:35.576]a public land grant institution
- [00:00:38.614]with campuses and programs across the state
- [00:00:41.539]that reside on past, present, and future homelands
- [00:00:46.155]of the Pawnee, Ponca, Oto-Missouria, Omaha, Dakota, Lakota,
- [00:00:55.437]Arapahoe, Cheyenne, and Kaw peoples as well as
- [00:01:00.840]the relocated Ho Chunk, Iowa, and Sac and Fox peoples.
- [00:01:07.110]With this acknowledgement, we affirm indigenous sovereignty
- [00:01:10.602]and we will work to hold our community and institution
- [00:01:14.190]more accountable to the needs of indigenous people.
- [00:01:21.480]So with that, we want you to first
- [00:01:24.350]meet your presenters for today.
- [00:01:28.090]We have Quinn Hogan, who is
- [00:01:29.440]the assistant director of fraternity and sorority life
- [00:01:31.830]who works with our culturally-based fraternal organizations.
- [00:01:35.700]We have Abby Javier, who's our MGC summer staff
- [00:01:40.270]who's a member of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority Incorporated.
- [00:01:43.940]And then we have Nyarial Nyoak,
- [00:01:46.077]who's our NPHC summer staff member
- [00:01:50.880]who's a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.
- [00:01:57.410]So before we dive right into the information
- [00:02:01.340]about our culturally-based organizations
- [00:02:02.910]we first need to start with an overview of
- [00:02:06.010]our community here at the university.
- [00:02:09.266]So our fraternity-sorority life community
- [00:02:12.649]has been a part of UNL for over 145 years.
- [00:02:16.770]And with that, we have 54 fraternities and sororities
- [00:02:20.552]for our students to select for membership.
- [00:02:24.056]Our community size is about 4,600 members strong
- [00:02:30.210]which means that we have about one in five students
- [00:02:32.920]that have membership in our organization here.
- [00:02:36.290]And then we have four ways for our students to join.
- [00:02:41.290]So we have the Interfraternity Council,
- [00:02:43.810]we have the Multicultural Greek Council,
- [00:02:45.680]the National Panhellenic Council,
- [00:02:48.620]and then we have our National Panhellenic Conference.
- [00:02:54.413]We have some values within our office, we have five,
- [00:02:57.690]and you'll see there's four currently listed on the slide.
- [00:03:00.733]But with that, we've combined some
- [00:03:03.070]so that this is easier to read on the screen.
- [00:03:07.230]And so one of the most important takeaways
- [00:03:14.950]from being in a fraternity and sorority
- [00:03:16.910]is our academic achievement.
- [00:03:18.660]And so that's really where our organizations started from
- [00:03:24.493]is in the reference of scholarship.
- [00:03:28.510]So as you can see on the screen,
- [00:03:30.460]our Greek female GPA average is about a 3.498,
- [00:03:34.072]while our male Greek GPA average is a 3.2.
- [00:03:38.208]So our students take their scholastics very seriously.
- [00:03:43.304]We then look at leadership development.
- [00:03:46.544]So there's a wide variety of opportunities
- [00:03:49.470]for our students to learn leadership skills
- [00:03:52.572]whether that be from the council that they have membership,
- [00:03:56.528]the chapter that they have membership of,
- [00:03:59.700]or even within the UNL community.
- [00:04:03.798]Thirdly, we have civic engagement,
- [00:04:06.670]and this is a large part of the ways that
- [00:04:09.780]our chapters give back to the community, whether that be
- [00:04:13.752]with their own philanthropy events that they do
- [00:04:17.400]or community service that they do.
- [00:04:19.291]A lot of our chapters really do get involved
- [00:04:22.171]within the Lincoln community,
- [00:04:24.320]but also surrounding counties and state opportunities
- [00:04:28.110]that are presented.
- [00:04:30.410]And then lastly but certainly not least
- [00:04:32.593]we have inclusive excellence.
- [00:04:35.170]And this is where we really start to talk about students
- [00:04:38.197]finding their home within their organizations and council
- [00:04:42.950]and feeling like they can be themselves
- [00:04:46.347]and be authentic to themselves and to the community.
- [00:04:55.032]So here you will see that
- [00:04:57.491]the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life,
- [00:05:00.010]we have events that our students participate in
- [00:05:02.902]largely outside of just the council and the chapters.
- [00:05:07.112]So we have homecoming,
- [00:05:08.646]we do leadership retreats with our students in January,
- [00:05:12.427]and then also right before they come back in August
- [00:05:16.771]we do what's called a Greek Weekend,
- [00:05:19.400]which is an opportunity for our students to be able to have
- [00:05:24.470]some civil comradery and do events such as a Greek relay
- [00:05:30.940]and and different things like that.
- [00:05:32.290]For them to be able to get together
- [00:05:34.653]and find community with each other, with some civil rivalry.
- [00:05:39.810]We have a Greek Gala, which is our awards banquet,
- [00:05:42.740]which is a time for our students to get snazzy,
- [00:05:45.870]take some pictures, and then also get awarded
- [00:05:49.320]for the great work that they've done over the year.
- [00:05:52.370]And then we also do, what's called Greek preview.
- [00:05:56.528]Greek preview is an opportunity
- [00:05:58.253]for students who are interested in coming to UNL
- [00:06:00.877]to meet our Greek community before they get here
- [00:06:05.010]to see if they're even interested.
- [00:06:10.130]So the next thing, we're gonna hop right into
- [00:06:13.479]some CBFO history.
- [00:06:17.080]First we're gonna talk about our councils.
- [00:06:19.420]Here, you'll see on the screen where we talk about
- [00:06:21.480]the Multicultural Greek Council.
- [00:06:23.500]It started in 1994 with
- [00:06:26.070]Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated.
- [00:06:29.952]That was the first chapter that was established here
- [00:06:32.669]as a cultural organization
- [00:06:37.470]that falls within MGC here at the university.
- [00:06:41.210]And currently MGC has seven recognized chapters
- [00:06:45.318]and then two interested or affiliate organizations
- [00:06:49.435]that would like to be on campus as well, too.
- [00:06:53.344]While the National Panhellenic Council had
- [00:06:58.350]its humble beginning started in 1916 with the Eta Chapter of
- [00:07:01.962]Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated here at UNL.
- [00:07:07.219]They've had the privilege of having
- [00:07:09.700]at least eight of the nine D-9 organizations
- [00:07:13.240]here on campus during various times.
- [00:07:16.120]And currently NPHC has four recognized chapters
- [00:07:20.095]with three interested groups
- [00:07:22.260]that are seeking affiliation with campus as well.
- [00:07:26.360]And so something that is important to recognize here is
- [00:07:30.360]that the Multicultural Greek Council are our organizations
- [00:07:33.835]that typically have affiliation with
- [00:07:36.315]Latinx or Latin-Latina origin.
- [00:07:41.600]We have Asian interest organizations, and then we also have
- [00:07:45.080]multicultural organizations as well too.
- [00:07:49.310]And then our National Panhellenic Council are historically
- [00:07:53.626]Black or African-American fraternities and sororities.
- [00:08:01.020]So the purpose of MGC or the Multicultural Greek Council
- [00:08:05.896]is to create and maintain
- [00:08:08.940]high academic and moral and social standards
- [00:08:11.654]for its member organizations
- [00:08:13.896]by addressing and coordinating and developing
- [00:08:17.520]strategic action plans.
- [00:08:19.340]And so really what that boils down to is
- [00:08:21.690]they wanna be a force to be reckoned with.
- [00:08:23.793]They wanna be able to provide a voice for folks of color
- [00:08:28.856]and even folks who do not identify as a person of color
- [00:08:34.535]to wrap their arms around them
- [00:08:36.580]and create a welcoming space for them on campus.
- [00:08:40.898]And that's a large part of what our MGC organizations do.
- [00:08:46.775]With that, MGC does a lot of programming.
- [00:08:51.560]And so what you'll see here are
- [00:08:53.037]some semesterly programs that MGC does.
- [00:08:57.576]And so you'll see MGC Week,
- [00:09:01.560]which is a week that has a host of socials
- [00:09:05.590]where people can come and get to know about MGC
- [00:09:09.610]and the organizations that fall underneath.
- [00:09:12.860]There's some community service opportunities.
- [00:09:15.120]And there's also some educational opportunities as well too.
- [00:09:18.411]Each of the organizations do their own week,
- [00:09:22.376]whether it be a recruitment week where you get to learn more
- [00:09:26.480]about the organizations or programmatic efforts.
- [00:09:31.130]We have the OFSL and Oasis Stroll-Off.
- [00:09:33.955]We just had the first one in almost three years in April,
- [00:09:38.540]and it was really great.
- [00:09:39.880]And it's an opportunity for chapters to see strolling
- [00:09:47.206]in a larger space than outside of the union.
- [00:09:51.432]We have the block party, which is again
- [00:09:54.410]an opportunity for not only MGC and NPHC to be able to
- [00:09:58.971]showcase strolling or stepping,
- [00:10:01.793]but also an opportunity where they invite
- [00:10:05.395]other cultural identity and affinity groups to tables.
- [00:10:11.240]So students get involved
- [00:10:13.475]and can see other organizations that they can be a part of.
- [00:10:17.720]We have Multicultural Greek One-on-One,
- [00:10:19.580]which is an opportunity for students
- [00:10:23.500]who are interested in in becoming a member of
- [00:10:26.060]one of our organizations within MGC
- [00:10:29.056]to also be able to learn a little bit more
- [00:10:33.030]before they dive in.
- [00:10:34.880]And then, again, you have community service
- [00:10:37.110]and philanthropy events that are hosted on campus.
- [00:10:39.930]And then you see the Yard Show,
- [00:10:41.640]which is a joint effort with NPHC.
- [00:10:44.733]That's a step show.
- [00:10:50.290]So for NPHC, the purpose of NPHC is
- [00:10:55.863]to foster our cooperative action of its members
- [00:10:59.210]in dealing with matters of mutual interests.
- [00:11:01.430]And so it's really supposed to be a place where
- [00:11:04.250]students can, again, come together,
- [00:11:06.512]talk about concerns that may they may be facing on campus
- [00:11:11.088]and then really being a voice on campus
- [00:11:15.820]to have some of those hard conversations with administration
- [00:11:20.845]and then also within the Lincoln community as well.
- [00:11:25.790]And as you can see, all nine of the crests are below.
- [00:11:31.750]So similar, like I mentioned with MGC,
- [00:11:34.533]NPHC does some of the same type of events as well, too.
- [00:11:38.640]So you'll see that there will be
- [00:11:40.030]some social and community service events.
- [00:11:43.390]You'll be able to see each chapter doing events on campus
- [00:11:48.160]during their own week.
- [00:11:50.528]You'll see that there's a Black Greek One-on-One,
- [00:11:53.060]so again, students are afforded the opportunity to
- [00:11:55.500]get to learn a little bit more about these organizations
- [00:11:58.440]before they dive in.
- [00:12:00.150]And again, you'll see Yard Show and Stroll-Off as well, too,
- [00:12:05.080]for these organizations.
- [00:12:08.910]So, the new member intake process,
- [00:12:11.567]this process is a little bit different than what you'll see
- [00:12:16.230]in some of our other councils in regards to recruitment.
- [00:12:18.675]And so we're gonna talk and dive into that.
- [00:12:22.720]So, what is intake?
- [00:12:24.195]Intake is a process that is designed
- [00:12:26.981]to keep the university organization
- [00:12:30.020]and those participating in intake
- [00:12:32.340]in an open and transparent community with one another.
- [00:12:37.990]And so for the organizations, there are some guidelines
- [00:12:43.590]that they're given from their headquarters
- [00:12:45.510]that are enforced,
- [00:12:47.130]but then also from a university perspective
- [00:12:49.280]we have some guidelines that we give chapters
- [00:12:52.060]in regards to intake.
- [00:12:53.730]And so it's a really a joint effort
- [00:12:55.660]in ensuring that the process is great
- [00:12:59.440]for all of those that are involved.
- [00:13:02.180]So what happens during intake?
- [00:13:04.776]So first know that the chapters can participate in intake
- [00:13:09.672]in the fall or spring semester.
- [00:13:12.533]And then also by case by case scenario
- [00:13:16.650]during the summer as well, too,
- [00:13:18.040]depending upon their headquarters requirements.
- [00:13:22.850]And then, what should you know going into a process?
- [00:13:25.592]So what you should know is a couple different things.
- [00:13:28.837]So each of our organizations have a different process
- [00:13:33.880]in regards to intake
- [00:13:35.150]and what that could look like and what it could be.
- [00:13:37.760]So first, know that not each of our organizations
- [00:13:40.347]within MGC or NPHC have the same process,
- [00:13:44.296]but as a university, we do hold them to the same standards.
- [00:13:48.936]So that means that the process should be
- [00:13:51.370]no longer than 12 weeks from start to finish.
- [00:13:55.830]So that's the first thing you should know.
- [00:13:57.110]And then the next thing you should know is some activities
- [00:14:01.110]that you should be aware of, that you could participate in
- [00:14:04.420]if you do go through a process.
- [00:14:07.970]So there could be membership education meetings that happen,
- [00:14:12.045]again, depending on the organization
- [00:14:14.630]that could look like one meeting weekly
- [00:14:18.210]or it could look like maybe two or three meetings weekly
- [00:14:21.155]where you're learning information about the organization.
- [00:14:24.187]There'll be some bonding activities that you'll do
- [00:14:27.352]with other folks that may be a part of the line.
- [00:14:34.040]So a line is a group or a set number of people
- [00:14:38.970]that may be joining at the same time.
- [00:14:42.730]There will be community service projects
- [00:14:44.890]that you may have to prepare and present on.
- [00:14:47.832]And then there's a test or an evaluation
- [00:14:50.560]to essentially test the knowledge and information
- [00:14:54.833]that you've retained during your process.
- [00:14:57.570]And then after the process,
- [00:14:59.380]there's a new member presentation or reveal that happens
- [00:15:02.652]where you are showcased to the community
- [00:15:07.533]as a new member of this organization.
- [00:15:12.990]So how do you prepare?
- [00:15:14.130]So let's talk about that a little bit.
- [00:15:16.210]So first thing you should do
- [00:15:18.280]if you're interested in either MGC or NPHC
- [00:15:22.180]is attend a Multicultural Greek One-on-One
- [00:15:25.520]or Black Greek One-on-One.
- [00:15:27.620]those sessions are held Monday nights at 6:00 PM
- [00:15:32.130]either on the first or the last Monday of the month.
- [00:15:36.580]And so we have those dates posted on our social media
- [00:15:41.709]for the councils and then also our office
- [00:15:44.300]so you can find out what those dates are.
- [00:15:45.990]And if you ever have questions
- [00:15:47.130]you can always reach out to our office.
- [00:15:49.890]The second theme is that
- [00:15:52.420]you should be a full-time collegiate status
- [00:15:55.080]which means you should be enrolled in
- [00:15:56.650]either 12 or more credit hours
- [00:15:58.720]and then also have obtained 12 credit hours or more.
- [00:16:03.530]Now the asterisks that are there are letting you know that
- [00:16:08.030]there are some organizations that
- [00:16:09.707]allow first-time freshmen to participate in membership.
- [00:16:15.133]For those organizations or students that are interested,
- [00:16:19.533]they will have to turn in their high school transcript
- [00:16:22.189]to our office to be a part of a process.
- [00:16:26.472]Third, you should have a collegiate GPA of 2.5 or higher
- [00:16:32.640]and then also make sure that
- [00:16:34.500]you participate in community service,
- [00:16:36.340]because those two things on bullet three
- [00:16:38.660]are really important to our organizations.
- [00:16:40.930]And again, the double asterisk there is for
- [00:16:43.990]our first time freshmen that may participate
- [00:16:46.620]in joining in an organization.
- [00:16:49.360]And then fourth, attend council and chapter events
- [00:16:53.220]and informationals that the chapters may have
- [00:16:55.510]during the following spring semester.
- [00:16:57.648]That's where the meat and potatoes will be
- [00:16:59.880]for these organizations,
- [00:17:01.030]are through those programs and informationals
- [00:17:05.440]that are held throughout the year.
- [00:17:11.549]Next here we have information about
- [00:17:14.980]what recruitment looks like for these organizations.
- [00:17:18.287]We're gonna go with MGC first, which is this diagram here.
- [00:17:26.730]So for MGC, what you'll see is at the start of the semester,
- [00:17:30.509]NGC chapters will participate in
- [00:17:34.210]the first three weeks of the semester
- [00:17:36.589]which is called their recruitment period, right?
- [00:17:40.290]So you'll see a wide variety of programs that may happen.
- [00:17:44.570]There'll be some informationals and socials
- [00:17:47.187]and things like that that will happen
- [00:17:49.190]during those first three weeks
- [00:17:50.410]to really get to know the organization
- [00:17:52.020]and for them to get to know you.
- [00:17:53.745]After that, there's what's called a bid extension
- [00:17:57.104]where they'll ask you to come and interview with them
- [00:18:01.229]as a potential candidate for membership.
- [00:18:05.840]What that means is you've completed the application for them
- [00:18:08.648]and you've turned it in
- [00:18:11.389]and they've said, "Hey, we've interviewed you,
- [00:18:16.460]and we'd like to maybe have you consider becoming a member,"
- [00:18:20.605]there's a new member induction where there's
- [00:18:23.665]a couple rituals that will happen in regards to membership.
- [00:18:27.830]And this is really focusing on community.
- [00:18:31.149]And then in the green what you'll see is
- [00:18:34.010]new member education.
- [00:18:35.130]So remember there's classes,
- [00:18:37.650]there's projects that you'll do, there'll be some service,
- [00:18:40.850]and this is really an opportunity to really get ingrained
- [00:18:43.810]and really understand the dynamics of the organization.
- [00:18:47.389]Then finally in the orange you'll see there's initiation.
- [00:18:51.390]So you'll be a full-fledged member of the organization
- [00:18:55.120]once you've reached this orange status.
- [00:18:58.430]And so after you've reached this orange status, that is when
- [00:19:02.210]the new member presentational reveal will happen
- [00:19:05.128]and you get to be showcased to the campus community.
- [00:19:10.040]For NPHC, there's a similar process as well.
- [00:19:13.550]And so first things first for NPHC
- [00:19:16.509]is in this brownish color here.
- [00:19:20.669]It says attend council and chapter events
- [00:19:23.414]to get to know the members.
- [00:19:25.590]And so whether it's MGC or NPHC, it's really vital that
- [00:19:29.965]you get to know the members of the organization
- [00:19:33.584]because those are gonna be the people that you work with.
- [00:19:36.110]So think of this kind of like a business, right?
- [00:19:38.930]You wanna get to know them,
- [00:19:40.328]how you will work together and things like that.
- [00:19:43.760]And really what you wanna understand here in either process
- [00:19:47.288]is building authentic relationships with these folks, right?
- [00:19:52.965]So after that, for NPHC you'll see
- [00:19:55.677]"attend a rush or an informational."
- [00:19:58.110]In either process,
- [00:20:00.125]these are requirements of seeking membership.
- [00:20:03.760]And so you'll wanna make sure that you do attend those
- [00:20:06.250]and pay attention to any information
- [00:20:08.669]that may be on the flyer.
- [00:20:10.622]After that, you'll be notified if you've been selected
- [00:20:14.080]as a candidate for membership.
- [00:20:16.424]And then once you have been selected as a candidate
- [00:20:21.071]you'll go through the new member process.
- [00:20:23.756]Once you've gone through the new member process,
- [00:20:26.004]there's initiation, and then once initiation happens
- [00:20:29.801]and you're full fledged member,
- [00:20:32.462]then you will have a new member presentation or reveal.
- [00:20:37.250]So there's a lot of overlap in regards to MGC and NPHC.
- [00:20:43.513]So, some culture and tradition.
- [00:20:47.130]As I had mentioned in regards to some of the events
- [00:20:50.073]that both MGC and NPHC participate in,
- [00:20:54.352]there is a unique art form that they both participate in
- [00:21:00.930]called stepping and strolling.
- [00:21:03.350]And these are held very highly
- [00:21:05.560]in regards to both of these councils.
- [00:21:07.980]And so, as you see here,
- [00:21:10.040]this gives you more of a historical framework
- [00:21:12.460]in regards to what stepping and strolling is.
- [00:21:15.460]But the one thing that you really wanna make sure
- [00:21:17.600]that you understand about these organizations is
- [00:21:20.700]if you see a hand sign, if you see a call or hear a call,
- [00:21:25.812]or if you see them stepping or strolling on campus,
- [00:21:30.028]that you do not mimic or mock these
- [00:21:33.033]particular forms of representation of these organizations,
- [00:21:38.469]it is seen as disrespectful.
- [00:21:41.970]And so those are something these are things that
- [00:21:45.700]only members are allowed to do
- [00:21:47.921]as a part of their membership.
- [00:21:50.673]And so before we dive more into it,
- [00:21:55.340]I wanna let us watch a quick video.
- [00:21:59.991](crowd cheering)
- [00:22:05.519](exciting pop music)
- [00:22:14.810]Whether you call it stepping,
- [00:22:16.360]strolling, or party walking,
- [00:22:18.610]one thing's for sure: it's exciting to be a part of.
- [00:22:21.830]One of the most interesting and insightful subgenres
- [00:22:24.220]of stepping is strolling, also known as party walking.
- [00:22:27.830]Jacque Malone defines party walking as
- [00:22:29.890]organized line movement
- [00:22:31.110]performed around the floor at a party.
- [00:22:33.500]Other sources define strolling as a cultural dance
- [00:22:35.690]often performed in unison and in a circle
- [00:22:38.040]to symbolize unity and strength.
- [00:22:40.260]Like stepping, strolling has historical ties to
- [00:22:42.750]both African and American art forms.
- [00:22:45.472]Strolling's African roots can be traced back to
- [00:22:48.670]South African and Ghanaian dance forms.
- [00:22:51.120]One particular dance, the Ring Shout,
- [00:22:53.420]is a religious dance produced by African slaves
- [00:22:55.980]where participants shuffled
- [00:22:57.060]single file and counterclockwise to music.
- [00:22:59.960]According to Sterling Stuckey,
- [00:23:01.650]professor of history at Northwestern University,
- [00:23:03.815]the Ring Shout is a sacred ritual in which
- [00:23:06.139]worshipers shift their feet and move their bodies
- [00:23:09.130]in a circle to symbolize the connection between
- [00:23:11.190]the past, the present, and the future.
- [00:23:14.120]Strolling's American roots begin with
- [00:23:16.200]Black Greek letter organizations in the mid-20th century
- [00:23:19.460]when a ritual ceremony called the Death March became popular
- [00:23:22.059]on historically Black college and university campuses.
- [00:23:25.650]Dr. Walter Kimbro defines Death Marches as
- [00:23:27.840]the final activity of the BTLO pledge process.
- [00:23:31.530]Pledges was spend hours marching around campus,
- [00:23:34.470]reciting poems and singing organizational hymns.
- [00:23:37.883]The history of strolling can also be traced back to
- [00:23:40.502]the Black church.
- [00:23:42.330]It was here that hand clapping, foot stomping, singing,
- [00:23:44.683]and dancing became mainstays in Black religious culture.
- [00:23:48.298]Additional connections include Black military GIs
- [00:23:51.177]and classic soul music acts like the Temptations,
- [00:23:54.310]the Supremes, and the Jackson Five.
- [00:23:57.302]Today, strolling is a staple
- [00:23:59.770]on college campuses across the country.
- [00:24:02.240]fraternities and sororities hold stroll exhibitions,
- [00:24:05.070]some with cash prizes and scholarships.
- [00:24:07.690]Since the mid-1980s, many fraternities and sororities in
- [00:24:11.170]the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations,
- [00:24:14.620]also known as NALFO,
- [00:24:16.130]have adopted strolling as their art form of choice
- [00:24:18.379]out of respect for Black Greek letter organizations.
- [00:24:21.200]Some do not step,
- [00:24:22.470]but rather participate in strolling as an alternative.
- [00:24:26.844](rhythmic dance music)
- [00:24:28.740]From death marches to dance halls,
- [00:24:30.490]strolling is now performed in some way, shape, or form
- [00:24:33.214]by Greeks of all councils.
- [00:24:35.310]However, there is one rule that you must remember:
- [00:24:38.500]never under any circumstances break the line
- [00:24:41.690]or interrupt a fraternity or a sorority stroll.
- [00:24:44.380]The dominant principle here is respect for the organization.
- [00:24:48.310]As time moves forward, we will all witness strolling
- [00:24:51.100]becoming more popular amongst Greeks of all councils.
- [00:24:54.020]However, it is up to all of us to pass down
- [00:24:56.900]the history, traditions, and customs
- [00:24:58.958]from generation to generation.
- [00:25:01.955](upbeat hip-hop music)
- [00:25:19.760]So as you can see, it's a pretty popular art form
- [00:25:23.570]between MGC and NPHC organizations.
- [00:25:27.510]And a lot of those movements that you saw in the video
- [00:25:32.750]are also things that they do at a new member presentation.
- [00:25:35.730]And so here you can see two pictures of
- [00:25:38.128]what a new member present presentation can look like,
- [00:25:42.502]but it's really an exciting time for the new members, right?
- [00:25:49.260]To be able to share the information and knowledge
- [00:25:53.610]that they've learned during throughout this process,
- [00:25:56.139]and really be able to show pride in regards to
- [00:26:00.393]now being a new member of the particular organization
- [00:26:03.900]or respective organization that they have joined.
- [00:26:08.790]So we've reached the end of the presentation,
- [00:26:11.958]but here's some contact information in regards to
- [00:26:15.150]how to find MGC, how to find NPHC, and then also to find
