- [00:00:04.181]So Batool, you're nearing graduation.
- [00:00:06.220]Coming up here really soon.
- [00:00:08.240]What has UNL meant to you to be a student here?
- [00:00:11.930]I'm a first generation college student,
- [00:00:13.910]but I'm also a first generation American.
- [00:00:16.140]So navigating college my first year,
- [00:00:18.750]I thought was going to be very stressful and difficult,
- [00:00:21.900]but automatically from the front,
- [00:00:23.590]I had professors and mentors and teachers
- [00:00:26.270]who were so willing to guide me.
- [00:00:28.490]It really was a village that I found here at UNL,
- [00:00:31.380]and as an aspiring lawyer, I know that every client I have
- [00:00:35.240]will have UNL and the people I found here
- [00:00:37.810]to thank for the justice that I'm able to bring to them.
- [00:00:42.040]You've been student body president of ASUN.
- [00:00:44.190]You've been student regent,
- [00:00:45.590]representing UNL at the system level.
- [00:00:48.350]You've been president of Black Student Union.
- [00:00:50.480]You've been an advocate for so many different things
- [00:00:53.420]and for change.
- [00:00:54.303]Talk a little bit about what that has meant to you too.
- [00:00:57.680]I didn't realize how impactful the advocacy
- [00:01:01.650]that I was able to bring to the table when I started
- [00:01:05.950]was going to, how impactful it was going to be.
- [00:01:08.570]And it was really the students on campus
- [00:01:10.440]that empowered me to speak up and to always speak my truth
- [00:01:14.370]and to make this campus home in the most important ways.
- [00:01:18.410]And that's what happens here at Nebraska.
- [00:01:20.720]We empower our students to lead and to serve truthfully
- [00:01:24.800]and rightfully.
- [00:01:26.210]And so it's just part of the Nebraska story.
- [00:01:28.740]That's great.
- [00:01:29.573]Talk a little bit about the power
- [00:01:31.040]the students have to make change.
- [00:01:33.290]I think the students here
- [00:01:34.230]at the University of Nebraska Lincoln
- [00:01:35.600]specifically are so unique.
- [00:01:37.240]We always lead with respect and poise and advocacy,
- [00:01:41.170]because really at the heart of it,
- [00:01:42.560]we wanna make this campus better,
- [00:01:44.230]because we belong here, because this is our home.
- [00:01:46.640]And so at the end of the day, really,
- [00:01:48.530]it was the University of Nebraska Lincoln that empowered me
- [00:01:51.270]to advocate and to change the university
- [00:01:54.070]in the ways that I thought was best for my communities.
- [00:01:56.770]I'm really looking forward to presenting
- [00:01:58.372]your diploma to you, Batool.
- [00:02:00.700]You've been an awesome student here,
- [00:02:03.350]and I know you're gonna change the world.
- [00:02:06.581]And seeing you go on to law school and what you're gonna do,
- [00:02:09.810]we're gonna be watching to see the impact
- [00:02:12.620]that you have on the world.
- [00:02:14.070]Congratulations.
- [00:02:14.930]Thank you, thank you.
