[00:00:01.290]almost time for your New Student Enrollment advising appointment. As an incoming
[00:00:05.550]Explore Center student at UNL,
[00:00:07.470]here's some important information for you to know before your meeting with an
[00:00:10.830]advisor.
[00:00:13.560]The Explore Center is the academic advising home for all undecided, pre-health,
[00:00:17.970]pre-law students
[00:00:19.320]and really any student working to meet requirements for other colleges or
[00:00:22.980]majors. There's 10 academic advisors,
[00:00:25.680]and you'll be meeting with one of them soon to talk about the transition to UNL
[00:00:29.370]and registering for courses.
[00:00:31.320]Here are some tips to help you with your upcoming advising meeting
[00:00:36.630]Tip number one: come prepared with your NUID and your password.
[00:00:40.560]This is what you've been using to log into MyRed
[00:00:42.840]and you'll also use this to enroll in courses either during or after our
[00:00:46.470]meeting. Tip number two,
[00:00:50.430]we encourage you to think about majors that you're interested in.
[00:00:53.520]You can browse the admissions website for full list of options
[00:00:56.460]and then start to narrow down some ones that you're still thinking of.
[00:00:59.670]It's helpful for us to know if you're interested in something more science
[00:01:02.460]related, something more humanities related, that sort of thing.
[00:01:08.700]Tip number three. Know,
[00:01:10.620]of course, the credit that you're transferring in. Whether or not you've
[00:01:13.860]submitted your transcripts yet isn't a huge deal.
[00:01:16.410]It's just helpful for us to know
[00:01:17.880]and for you to know what classes that you've taken and where,
[00:01:20.490]so that we can discuss these in our meeting and talk about how they count
[00:01:23.550]towards a potential degree.
[00:01:25.440]Be also prepared to tell us about any classes that you're currently taking as
[00:01:28.770]well. In addition, it'd be helpful if you have a list of activities, programs,
[00:01:32.970]or involvements that you're expecting to participate in
[00:01:37.800]Tip number four, we're going to talk about courses in our meeting.
[00:01:40.800]and we might specifically talk about ACE courses.
[00:01:43.530]Here's a brief description of what ACE courses are.
[00:01:46.500]ACE stands for Achievement Centered Education.
[00:01:49.170]and is our fancy way of saying general education requirements.
[00:01:53.040]We encourage you to think about what types of ACE classes intrigue you out of
[00:01:56.670]the different categories that there are. If you've already completed,
[00:02:00.000]all of your ACE requirements,
[00:02:01.800]come prepared with ideas of other courses or other subjects that interest you.
[00:02:06.120]ACE course options can be found on the academic advising inventory,
[00:02:09.450]which you've hopefully taken before our meeting. Tip number five,
[00:02:14.400]write down some questions to bring to your meeting. Write
[00:02:16.950]anything that you would like to know or anything that you still have questions
[00:02:20.730]about. We're here to support in any way that we can
[00:02:23.430]as you make the transition to being a student at UNL.
