Student Affairs shows how it's fulfilling N2025 Aim 6: Participation and Professional Development. They've built a purposeful staff development program, created individualized plans, and rewarded performance.

[00:00:04.340]So, as student affairs educators,
[00:00:07.200]we not only have an obligation to understand
[00:00:10.440]and promote student learning, growth and development,
[00:00:13.340]but we also are obligated to understand
[00:00:15.440]and promote our staff members, growth and development.
[00:00:19.010]We're gonna take a three-step-approach.
[00:00:21.230]So, first one is build a program,
[00:00:24.370]a dynamic, purposeful staff development program
[00:00:27.950]that aligns with our divisional curriculum
[00:00:30.810]to prepare and support staff
[00:00:32.540]to enhance student success most effectively.
[00:00:35.690]We recently conducted a Staff Development Needs Assessment,
[00:00:39.510]so that we could identify skills and the knowledge
[00:00:42.590]that the staff feel are most important to their work.
[00:00:46.840]Based on the early results from that assessment,
[00:00:49.250]we learned that staff members at all levels,
[00:00:51.430]are interested in developing their leadership skills,
[00:00:55.210]their team work skills, their strengths-based skills
[00:00:59.280]and also the inclusive leadership.
[00:01:01.130]The second part of that
[00:01:02.240]is that we we are going to be piloting a process
[00:01:06.700]for creating individual development plans
[00:01:08.920]to help staff identify
[00:01:10.700]and then assess their future development needs,
[00:01:13.730]as part of the annual review process.
[00:01:16.760]The IDPs align with the key competency areas,
[00:01:20.210]identified by NASPA
[00:01:22.181]and then we've established a guidebook
[00:01:25.340]and a process for collecting
[00:01:28.300]and tracking the completion of these IDPs
[00:01:32.020]and then to assess,
[00:01:33.140]whether they're actually making a difference
[00:01:34.920]in the staff's professional development.
[00:01:38.300]And then the last part of that
[00:01:39.680]is recognizing and rewarding staff
[00:01:43.028]for their professional development activities.
[00:01:45.910]So, we're in the process of creating an online site,
[00:01:49.690]where we can collect staff accomplishments
[00:01:52.140]and their professional recognition,
[00:01:54.240]so that we can celebrate their achievements.
