- [00:00:04.470]Hi, welcome to a new session of Husker Hub Explains.
- [00:00:06.980]We hope these videos work as a visual resource
- [00:00:10.061]to help you handle the business of being a Husker
- [00:00:11.850]in this video, I'll be going over
- [00:00:13.440]how to complete the summary aid application
- [00:00:15.600]on MyRED and things to consider
- [00:00:17.620]when completing the application.
- [00:00:19.330]This application should be completed
- [00:00:20.940]if you are wanting to be considered for financial aid
- [00:00:23.540]to help with cost over the summer.
- [00:00:25.990]Let's begin.
- [00:00:26.823]To complete the summer aid application
- [00:00:28.170]you will hover over the financial aid tag on MyRED
- [00:00:31.720]and select summer aid application.
- [00:00:34.260]This popup will appear,
- [00:00:35.730]and you will want to read through this page carefully
- [00:00:37.930]as it will go over awarding for summer,
- [00:00:40.910]disbursement for summer,
- [00:00:42.410]as it is different than during fall in spring,
- [00:00:46.040]as well as what you could be eligible for
- [00:00:48.410]in terms of federal financial aid.
- [00:00:51.080]There are a few important things
- [00:00:53.397]that I would like to point out within this page.
- [00:00:55.260]For example, the disbursement of your federal aid,
- [00:00:58.490]such as federal loans require halftime status to be reached
- [00:01:02.012]after the census state.
- [00:01:04.080]And this can occur in different sessions for students
- [00:01:07.170]as they take a combination of sessions
- [00:01:09.610]to reach halftime status.
- [00:01:11.480]Halftime status for undergraduate students
- [00:01:13.940]is six credit hours,
- [00:01:15.380]four credit hours for graduate students,
- [00:01:17.560]and six credit hours for a law student.
- [00:01:20.280]Additionally, financial aid could be reduced or canceled
- [00:01:23.340]if you change your enrollment
- [00:01:24.510]and enroll for fewer credit hours in a session
- [00:01:27.190]then you originally indicated on the summer aid application,
- [00:01:30.600]which is why
- [00:01:31.433]it is important to update your summer aid application
- [00:01:34.120]if you change enrollment
- [00:01:35.630]and I will go over that in more detail
- [00:01:37.530]at the end of the video.
- [00:01:39.430]This section discusses full-time federal work study.
- [00:01:42.090]For example, if you are a law student
- [00:01:43.610]interested in doing full-time federal work study,
- [00:01:46.350]you will need to have your current 2021-2022 FAFSA
- [00:01:50.960]and next year's 2022-2023 FAFSA on file.
- [00:01:55.500]Also, if you plan on doing full-time federal work study
- [00:01:59.480]you will not need to complete the summer aid application
- [00:02:02.340]but instead, complete and return
- [00:02:04.440]the federal work study certification form.
- [00:02:07.250]By clicking on this blue hyperlink,
- [00:02:09.450]you will be brought to the PDF form
- [00:02:12.141]that you can print and complete
- [00:02:13.080]and submit back to the financial aid office.
- [00:02:15.950]The last section I wanna go over within this page
- [00:02:18.660]is the direct loan and Pell Grant eligibility.
- [00:02:21.620]So for students that have used 100%
- [00:02:23.750]of their 2021-2022 federal direct student loan eligibility,
- [00:02:28.250]they will not be able to receive funds in the summer.
- [00:02:31.450]And for sophomore and freshman current students,
- [00:02:35.765]the financial aid office will be reviewing
- [00:02:38.470]the attempted credit hours
- [00:02:40.620]that you are currently enrolled in
- [00:02:41.750]to calculate the grade level for summer loan eligibility.
- [00:02:45.060]So please be aware that if you do not successfully complete
- [00:02:48.160]the attempted hours in spring 2022,
- [00:02:51.000]summer aid could be reduced or canceled in terms of loans.
- [00:02:55.080]If you have any questions or concerns,
- [00:02:56.580]please reach out to Husker Hub.
- [00:02:58.550]And lastly, for Pell Grant eligibility,
- [00:03:00.780]you do need to be enrolled in at least half time
- [00:03:03.230]if you qualify based off of your EFC.
- [00:03:06.020]And to maintain eligibility for federal Pell Grant,
- [00:03:08.920]you must be enrolled in classes by July 13th
- [00:03:12.290]of the last day to add a class for the second week session.
- [00:03:16.340]If you were to drop from a course
- [00:03:17.800]federal PE grant could be reduced or canceled.
- [00:03:20.780]So please come talk to our office
- [00:03:23.043]before making changes to your summer sessions.
- [00:03:25.820]Once you have finished reviewing,
- [00:03:27.030]click continue and you will be brought to this page
- [00:03:30.141]in which the hours that you are already enrolled in
- [00:03:31.840]for summer will be inputted in each session.
- [00:03:35.000]Please ensure that they are correct.
- [00:03:36.500]And take note of the last date to update those hours
- [00:03:39.480]for this session.
- [00:03:40.920]If you will be co-enrolled in another campus
- [00:03:43.170]for the university of Nebraska,
- [00:03:44.940]please indicate so in this question here,
- [00:03:48.000]and if you will be enrolled in education abroad program,
- [00:03:51.010]you will also indicate so here.
- [00:03:53.090]Once you select continue,
- [00:03:54.400]you will be brought to this page.
- [00:03:55.850]It will ask questions to help determine
- [00:03:57.650]how much financial aid you can receive
- [00:03:59.870]during your period of enrollment.
- [00:04:01.580]For example, if you are someone
- [00:04:03.200]that is going to need childcare for the summer,
- [00:04:06.130]you will indicate so on this form,
- [00:04:08.110]but also please fill out the dependent care express form
- [00:04:11.900]by clicking this blue hyperlink.
- [00:04:14.220]If you would like federal work study part-time,
- [00:04:16.760]you can indicate so here.
- [00:04:18.720]And select yes,
- [00:04:20.040]if you are interested in federal direct loans
- [00:04:22.480]for this summer.
- [00:04:23.620]As stated before,
- [00:04:24.630]you may have already used 100%
- [00:04:27.020]of your federal direct student loan eligibility.
- [00:04:30.230]You can note the value maximum amount
- [00:04:32.621]for each grade level here.
- [00:04:35.260]And that is why you may only be eligible
- [00:04:38.040]to receive federal direct plus loan eligibility
- [00:04:41.040]for the summer session.
- [00:04:43.420]By clicking continue, you'll be brought to the last page
- [00:04:46.210]that asks if you are receiving summer funding
- [00:04:49.327]from any of these programs.
- [00:04:50.260]Please only indicate if you are sure
- [00:04:52.340]because this will cost for an estimate
- [00:04:54.580]to be placed onto your financial aid awards for this summer.
- [00:04:58.360]Once you hit continue,
- [00:04:59.550]your application has been received
- [00:05:01.430]and will take two to three weeks
- [00:05:03.140]for processing and awarding.
- [00:05:05.670]If you do not have a current FAFSA on file,
- [00:05:09.260]you will be receive this message at the end of submitting.
- [00:05:13.490]If you are a scholarship applicant only,
- [00:05:15.410]you do not need to complete the FAFSA,
- [00:05:17.560]but if you rely on federal funding,
- [00:05:19.910]you will need to do the summer aid application
- [00:05:22.661]with the 2021-2022 FASFA application as well.
- [00:05:27.650]Please remember that if you make any changes
- [00:05:29.900]to your summer enrollment hours,
- [00:05:31.680]you will need to update the application
- [00:05:33.810]by going to the financial aid tab in MyRED,
- [00:05:36.490]selecting the summer aid application,
- [00:05:38.960]and you'll be brought back to the beginning page
- [00:05:41.330]to review your loan eligibility
- [00:05:43.610]as well as other information that we've discussed.
