The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts shows how it's fulfilling N2025 Aim 5: Inclusive Excellence and Diversity. The college has committed to diverse voices through partnerships with St. Louis Black Rep, Theatrix and We Are Nebraska.

[00:00:05.560]a little bit of what our theater program has done.
[00:00:08.400]They've been in now a two-year partnership
[00:00:11.020]with the St. Louis Black Repertory Theater
[00:00:13.870]and have had some collaborations
[00:00:15.900]even during the pandemic online
[00:00:18.210]we had performances and discussions with them
[00:00:21.600]so that the performances continued but it also culminated
[00:00:26.200]in a performance this past fall with actors,
[00:00:30.430]and directors, and designers
[00:00:32.820]from the St. Louis Black Rep, working with our faculty,
[00:00:35.610]and our students on a production of a show
[00:00:38.740]called "Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea."
[00:00:41.200]And so that partnership continues
[00:00:42.920]and it's offered great opportunities
[00:00:44.530]for our faculty and our students.
[00:00:46.380]I'm also really proud
[00:00:47.330]of our student theater group called Theatrix.
[00:00:50.960]This is our student run group
[00:00:52.670]and they've made a commitment this season
[00:00:54.580]to do only plays by women and BIPOC playwrights,
[00:00:58.620]which I think is a huge step forward for them.
[00:01:01.940]And I think finally,
[00:01:03.270]I'd also like to mention something that we do.
[00:01:05.260]I think in partnership with a few other colleges here,
[00:01:07.770]a program called "We Are Nebraska"
[00:01:09.640]where we're using improv theater to give student interns
[00:01:15.040]from really diverse backgrounds
[00:01:17.500]voice to tell their stories in public performances.
[00:01:20.660]And I know the third cohort of that group
[00:01:23.150]just did their premier this past week.
[00:01:24.920]And it's really, really inspiring and compelling
[00:01:27.630]that we're able to use that.
[00:01:28.940]And also in collaboration amongst other colleges
[00:01:33.540]around campus, it's a wonderful thing.
