- [00:00:00.190]I thank you, Ben.
- [00:00:01.070]Delighted to be joined by the chancellor of the University
- [00:00:03.020]of Nebraska Lincoln Ronnie Green,
- [00:00:04.480]our first baseball interview of the season.
- [00:00:06.410]We're a month into this thing.
- [00:00:07.580]It goes so quick and well, we've always
- [00:00:09.490]battled weather this time of year.
- [00:00:10.770]Good days, cold days,
- [00:00:12.010]but you fight your way through it.
- [00:00:13.480]Yeah, that's right.
- [00:00:14.360]You know, we've kind of had an up and down spring,
- [00:00:16.690]like a lot of ways,
- [00:00:18.020]and it's summer, and then it's winter,
- [00:00:21.380]and then it's kind of back to spring again.
- [00:00:23.936]It's good to be back in the big 10 baseball season,
- [00:00:27.838]and have that conference season going on.
- [00:00:30.790]And it's good to see this team continuing to develop.
- [00:00:34.750]Then we will bumpy in the spot here,
- [00:00:36.710]or there so far,
- [00:00:37.550]but we have a long season ahead of us to go,
- [00:00:40.190]with an opportunity you to again,
- [00:00:41.620]compete for a big 10 tournament title like we did last year,
- [00:00:45.280]with so much excitement around that down the road.
- [00:00:48.580]You know Omaha had so good to be in the big 10 season.
- [00:00:51.060]No doubt.
- [00:00:51.893]Well, the sports world chancellor is always
- [00:00:53.530]provided a distraction for everybody.
- [00:00:55.627]We're all following this conflict in Ukraine.
- [00:00:58.170]And I understand that Nebraska faculty has been called upon,
- [00:01:01.460]by even some national media as experts on laws
- [00:01:04.190]regarding war time activities in space.
- [00:01:07.300]What Nebraska's expertise in this area?
- [00:01:09.900]Well, certainly all of us have been kind of glued
- [00:01:12.010]to what's was leading up to,
- [00:01:14.380]and then what's been happening
- [00:01:15.650]in Ukraine this last period of about a month or more.
- [00:01:19.500]And our hearts are out with the people of Ukraine,
- [00:01:22.640]and how they're fighting against this invasion as we speak.
- [00:01:27.040]And what's happening there.
- [00:01:28.886]One aspect of that conflict that's been covered
- [00:01:31.720]in the news a little bit,
- [00:01:32.840]is the use of satellites to take insure images,
- [00:01:35.970]of course of importance of what's happening
- [00:01:37.770]on the ground below, and the fact that Russia,
- [00:01:41.350]has been trying to jam those signals,
- [00:01:43.750]and block coverage of Elon bus, Starlink satellite system,
- [00:01:47.580]that we've been hearing about.
- [00:01:49.440]What many people don't know,
- [00:01:51.170]is that Nebraska, in Nebraska law,
- [00:01:54.280]is a global leader in the study of space law.
- [00:01:57.370]And we have had now for a period of about a decade,
- [00:02:01.370]a space cyber and telecommunications law program.
- [00:02:04.570]That's internationally recognized as the leader
- [00:02:07.380]in this field.
- [00:02:08.915]And we were actually the first in the U.S,
- [00:02:11.990]to offer a doctoral degree in this area.
- [00:02:14.900]And our scholars kind of have led the creation
- [00:02:17.440]of a national network for space law and policy.
- [00:02:20.700]One of our experts is Jack Beard on our law faculty
- [00:02:24.900]in that area.
- [00:02:25.980]He's an expert on the wartime use of commercial satellites.
- [00:02:30.060]He's editor in chief of the Manual on the international law
- [00:02:34.050]of military space operations.
- [00:02:36.160]And he was just recently interviewed about this,
- [00:02:38.720]in a Washington post article relative to the Ukraine.
- [00:02:42.980]So media had been coming into our Nebraska scholars
- [00:02:45.750]for their perspectives on this,
- [00:02:47.600]and especially for our faculty in Nebraska law,
- [00:02:50.570]in this important area.
- [00:02:52.550]I'm so...very proud of that program,
- [00:02:54.950]having an impact currently in this conflict in Ukraine,
- [00:02:59.150]great to see Nebraska,
- [00:03:00.517]and our expertise recognize globally.
- [00:03:03.410]Of course, in this case, in a really unfortunate situation,
- [00:03:07.730]of what's occurring halfway around the world
- [00:03:10.080]with the people of Ukraine.
- [00:03:11.103]That is really fascinating.
- [00:03:12.200]Thank you so much for filling us in on that.
- [00:03:14.090]Always great to see you enjoy the game today.
- [00:03:15.870]You bet go big red, beat bucks.
- [00:03:17.530]There he is chance to run agreeing
- [00:03:18.830]with us here on our pre-game show.
- [00:03:20.040]We're back with first pitch Huskers and Buckeyes.
- [00:03:22.150]That's coming up next here on the Huskers radio network.
