- [00:00:03.840]So Lance, it's a pretty exciting time in the
- [00:00:06.060]College of Engineering here at Nebraska with a lot
- [00:00:08.940]of growth in a lot of different ways.
- [00:00:11.460]And we're just sitting here kind of looking out at
- [00:00:14.910]the big project.
- [00:00:15.780]Tell us about what that really means for the
- [00:00:18.540]College of Engineering.
- [00:00:20.130]Sure, well, our facilities projects are all about
- [00:00:23.550]allowing us to really deliver on what it means to
- [00:00:25.800]have a BigTen engineering education.
- [00:00:28.650]So we're building the best engineering buildings
- [00:00:31.020]in the country that will allow us to deliver on
- [00:00:33.960]our educational research and engagement missions
- [00:00:36.360]in a way we've never been able to before.
- [00:00:38.460]Students like Gracie will be getting just a world
- [00:00:40.950]class education, hands on better interactions with
- [00:00:44.580]employers. And just a better opportunity to learn.
- [00:00:47.910]And Gracie, you're a freshmen in the College of
- [00:00:51.240]Engineering this year and are part of the
- [00:00:53.250]inaugural cohort of our Kiewit Scholars here in
- [00:00:56.880]Nebraska Engineering.
- [00:00:58.440]So tell me a little bit about what kinds of things
- [00:01:01.560]the Kiewit Scholars have been involved in.
- [00:01:04.110]I would say that one of the most influential
- [00:01:05.790]experiences that I've been able to have as a
- [00:01:07.950]Kiewit Scholar here at Nebraska so far, is the
- [00:01:10.260]chance to hear from various guest speakers who are
- [00:01:12.330]often executive team members at Kiewit.
- [00:01:14.670]And these guest speakers visit our freshman
- [00:01:17.070]seminar for the Kiewit Scholars about once a
- [00:01:19.470]month, and give fascinating presentations about
- [00:01:22.530]various industry topics such as communication,
- [00:01:25.710]leadership skills, professionalism, and ethics.
- [00:01:28.950]And this insight into the world of Kiewit has
- [00:01:31.350]really been a highlight of my time in the program
- [00:01:33.360]so far.
- [00:01:34.290]The Complete Engineer is something that also is
- [00:01:37.140]pivotal to Nebraska Engineering.
- [00:01:39.060]And Lance, you were part of helping to build that?
- [00:01:41.370]The complete engineer is really a commitment we're
- [00:01:43.560]making to the college fundamentally to develop
- [00:01:46.200]everybody than to their full potential.
- [00:01:48.840]And what it's really about is better preparing our
- [00:01:50.790]students for industry.
- [00:01:52.050]We know technical foundations are the core of all
- [00:01:55.080]computing, construction, and engineering jobs.
- [00:01:58.200]But we also know that engineering is a global
- [00:02:00.150]enterprise, that it's very human centered
- [00:02:01.980]enterprise, and you have to have these other
- [00:02:03.900]skills.
- [00:02:05.070]Lots of great things happen in Nebraska
- [00:02:07.230]Engineering.
- [00:02:07.710]It's gonna be really cool to see where it is by
- [00:02:10.380]the time you're done in 2025.
- [00:02:14.100]Thanks.
- [00:02:14.760]Thank you.
- [00:02:15.510]Thank you.
