[00:00:04.550]I'd like to introduce into the conversation
[00:00:07.900]the idea of impact and creative activity.
[00:00:11.210]And so in the College of Architecture,
[00:00:13.810]we have designed build studios
[00:00:16.560]which are a little bit different than the traditional studio
[00:00:21.340]in that it combines the complex nature
[00:00:25.610]of thinking and making
[00:00:28.590]and resolves these problems in a more realistic manner.
[00:00:35.220]We have two names on these studios.
[00:00:38.250]One is FACT,
[00:00:39.800]which is a fabrication and construction team mentored
[00:00:43.580]by Jeff Day on our faculty.
[00:00:46.470]He's worked with the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts,
[00:00:50.540]with the Art Farm, with the Sheldon Museum of Art,
[00:00:54.748]with community crops,
[00:00:55.670]with Partners For Livable Omaha,
[00:00:59.130]to design and build the Omaha Mobile Stage
[00:01:02.690]for a traveling live performance tour
[00:01:05.960]of "Omaha's Green Spaces".
[00:01:08.530]So it's a collaboration that is a cultural
[00:01:13.480]and economic catalyst in public spaces
[00:01:17.020]and main streets across the Omaha metropolitan area.
[00:01:21.480]The second studio that we have is PLAIN, P-L-A-I-N.
[00:01:26.142]And it is a design build studio that is mentored
[00:01:30.380]by Jason Griffiths.
[00:01:32.660]And this studio has worked
[00:01:34.830]with the Santee Sioux Family Resource Center,
[00:01:38.890]the box cabin and the South Sioux City Orchard Facility
[00:01:43.250]just to name a few.
[00:01:44.890]And these design build studios and the work that results
[00:01:48.830]from them is receiving national attention.
[00:01:52.470]The grocery, which was a project out of FACT,
[00:01:56.460]actually ended up on the cover
[00:01:58.730]of the Progressive Architectures Edition
[00:02:02.200]on the 66th annual Awards in Progressive Architecture.
[00:02:06.980]So we're really proud of these studios
[00:02:09.470]and how they've added to the education of our students.
