- [00:00:20.010]And also from Justin Chase Brown,
- [00:00:21.970]who serves as Nebraska's director of scholarships
- [00:00:24.710]and financial aid,
- [00:00:25.620]and also the interim director of Husker Hub.
- [00:00:28.370]So, our goal in the next 20 minutes
- [00:00:30.280]or so really is to help you.
- [00:00:32.220]We wanna help you help your students and families

- [00:00:37.300]to remove barriers and anxiety and worry.

- [00:00:43.700]and we wanna do all we can to help students
- [00:00:46.050]realize their dreams of a four-year institution.
- [00:00:49.200]But also a rewarding career and an awesome life ahead.
- [00:00:51.970]So, thanks again for joining us.
- [00:00:54.600]Today's session is about how to help your students
- [00:00:56.490]and families navigate the steps and requirements,
- [00:00:59.510]but also the features and the benefits
- [00:01:01.260]of the Nebraska Promise award.
- [00:01:03.670]Today's session is the last in our series.
- [00:01:06.370]All three of our sessions have been recorded
- [00:01:08.700]and we're gonna send those out to all high school counselors
- [00:01:11.590]and community-based organization directors
- [00:01:14.270]throughout the state of Nebraska in early March.
- [00:01:17.510]So, I'm now pleased to introduce
- [00:01:18.740]a good friend and colleague, Kristy Saunders.
- [00:01:21.410]Kristy serves as the assistant director of Husker Hub.
- [00:01:24.890]So, Husker Hub is where students go
- [00:01:26.590]to handle the business of being a Husker.
- [00:01:29.400]Kristy leads a student services team that helps students
- [00:01:32.240]with financial aid, scholarships, course registration,
- [00:01:36.410]work-study jobs, grants, loans, student accounts.
- [00:01:40.420]And they're just really nice,
- [00:01:41.670]and just really really awesome to work with.
- [00:01:44.110]She has a lot of knowledge and experience in financial aid,
- [00:01:47.410]new student orientation, and especially serving
- [00:01:49.670]first-generation students and families.
- [00:01:51.620]So, she is an expert in all things financial aid.
- [00:01:54.790]So, we're really pleased to have her with us today.
- [00:01:56.530]So, please welcome Kristy Saunders from Husker Hub.
- [00:02:01.070]Hello, everyone.
- [00:02:02.120]I do recognize some names,
- [00:02:03.470]so thank you so much for returning.
- [00:02:05.970]So, today's presentation, for my part of this,
- [00:02:08.630]will actually be relatively short and sweet.
- [00:02:11.160]So, I will go over all of our information
- [00:02:13.360]regarding Nebraska Promise, the eligibility,
- [00:02:16.210]and of course the common misconceptions
- [00:02:18.440]and frequently asked questions
- [00:02:20.050]that we see students and parents run into
- [00:02:22.120]when they are navigating being eligible for this program.
- [00:02:26.100]So, at the very end,
- [00:02:27.610]I will definitely have time for us
- [00:02:28.960]to chat about any questions you have.
- [00:02:30.830]And also for those of you
- [00:02:31.860]that have been attending multiple webinars,
- [00:02:33.370]if you have questions from prior webinars
- [00:02:35.690]that now you'd like my feedback on
- [00:02:37.690]or any sort of information on,
- [00:02:39.020]I'm happy to do that as well.
- [00:02:41.550]So, just to kind of jump right in here.
- [00:02:44.090]For those of you that had not been with us
- [00:02:47.070]the last couple of times,
- [00:02:48.090]as Greg said, my name's Kristy Saunders.
- [00:02:50.130]I'm the assistant director of Husker Hub.
- [00:02:52.290]And the Husker Hub is the one-stop shop on UNL's campus,
- [00:02:55.690]where basically students can go
- [00:02:56.960]to get their questions answered about their bill,
- [00:02:59.410]about financial aid, about class registration, transcripts.
- [00:03:02.450]Basically, all the business side of being a student at UNL.
- [00:03:06.900]So, also, we kinda say that if,
- [00:03:08.770]just say, a student doesn't really know
- [00:03:10.030]where to go for their question,
- [00:03:11.270]if they come to us, we'll figure out where they need to go.
- [00:03:13.440]So, just send them our way,
- [00:03:16.010]and we're happy to assist them in any way we can.
- [00:03:19.670]So, to kind of start off, I wanna talk a little bit
- [00:03:21.340]about what is the Nebraska Promise.
- [00:03:23.760]So, the Nebraska Promise is the guarantee of funding
- [00:03:26.620]to cover the cost of undergraduate tuition
- [00:03:28.710]up to 15 credit hours per semester
- [00:03:31.420]at the University of Nebraska's four campuses.
- [00:03:33.630]So, really at any of the UNK, UNL, UNMC, UNO,
- [00:03:37.480]and even the two-year technical college, NCTA.
- [00:03:40.830]So, in order to be eligible for Nebraska Promise,
- [00:03:44.410]you do need to hit these criteria.
- [00:03:46.800]And this is where some of our first questions
- [00:03:48.980]kind of tend to come up.
- [00:03:50.360]So, first would be they must be a Nebraska resident.
- [00:03:53.670]So, if you have students that are graduating
- [00:03:56.150]from a high school in Nebraska,
- [00:03:58.400]then they will be automatically
- [00:03:59.610]considered Nebraska resident.
- [00:04:01.210]So, right there, check mark. They're good to go there.
- [00:04:04.430]If, just say, you have a student
- [00:04:06.100]who did not graduate from a Nebraska high school
- [00:04:09.890]but they should be considered a Nebraska resident,
- [00:04:12.710]then they need to go through the residency appeal process.
- [00:04:16.780]So, that is through admissions,
- [00:04:18.440]and they are happy to help with that whole process.
- [00:04:21.210]It is worth noting, however, that if, just say,
- [00:04:24.000]they are still considered an out-of-state student
- [00:04:27.070]by our priority deadline,
- [00:04:28.790]they may not be considered for Nebraska Promise.
- [00:04:31.150]So, it's very important that students who believe
- [00:04:34.150]they should be considered Nebraska resident
- [00:04:36.330]start that process early.
- [00:04:38.210]So, call admissions, get that appeal,
- [00:04:40.670]and really begin that process.
- [00:04:43.980]While they are a student with us,
- [00:04:45.650]they must be registered full-time
- [00:04:47.910]as an undergraduate student
- [00:04:49.710]for a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
- [00:04:52.620]So, that is basically what we consider
- [00:04:54.410]to be a full-time student.
- [00:04:56.070]But like I said before, we'll cover up to 15 credit hours.
- [00:04:59.420]So, as long as they're in 12.
- [00:05:01.460]And you'll probably notice too that I said undergraduate.
- [00:05:05.160]So, it is only for undergraduate students,
- [00:05:08.180]it cannot be used for graduate students.
- [00:05:10.460]So, if any of you are thinking going back to school,
- [00:05:13.300]unfortunately, wouldn't be able to be used for you.
- [00:05:17.420]And of course, any students that they may have received it
- [00:05:19.740]for their four years as an undergrad,
- [00:05:22.150]once they hit graduate school,
- [00:05:23.380]unfortunately the Nebraska Promise is no longer eligible.
- [00:05:27.130]Finally, they also need to be considered...
- [00:05:29.380]Have a family income or an AGI of combined $60,000 or less,
- [00:05:34.800]and or be Pell Grant eligible.
- [00:05:36.960]So, this is kind of where the FAFSA piece comes in.
- [00:05:39.680]So, the student must file their FAFSA by April 1st.
- [00:05:42.570]And from that FAFSA, so two years prior,
- [00:05:45.470]we will look at the combined family income,
- [00:05:48.330]as well as basically their Pell Grant eligibility.
- [00:05:51.990]So, one of the big things we see students get confused about
- [00:05:55.620]is what do we mean by combined family income.
- [00:05:58.960]So, for parents,
- [00:06:00.350]just say that the parents earned $58,000 combined
- [00:06:03.660]in 2020 for their FAFSA,
- [00:06:05.550]but the student also earned income.
- [00:06:07.960]If the student's income pushes them over that $60,000,
- [00:06:12.980]then unfortunately that is what we mean by combined,
- [00:06:15.610]and they would not be eligible for Nebraska Promise.
- [00:06:18.240]However, if they are eligible for Pell Grant
- [00:06:21.500]then they would be considered.
- [00:06:23.550]So, that's why we have that "and/or."
- [00:06:25.530]It is very possible that somebody could be making
- [00:06:28.100]above $60,000 per year,
- [00:06:30.430]but based on the FAFSA information,
- [00:06:32.470]could be considered Pell Grant eligible.
- [00:06:34.670]So, it's important that the student knows either one.
- [00:06:37.750]So, as long as they have a Pell Grant out there,
- [00:06:40.140]then they know they should be fine.
- [00:06:42.170]And then once again, while they're in school,
- [00:06:43.920]they just need to maintain a cumulative GPA
- [00:06:45.870]of at least 2.5 while they are attending
- [00:06:49.260]in order to be considered eligible for Nebraska Promise.
- [00:06:55.710]So, in order to apply for Nebraska Promise,
- [00:06:59.130]luckily it's actually pretty simple.
- [00:07:00.500]It's really just the same process
- [00:07:02.150]that we do for everything else.
- [00:07:03.530]So, number one, apply for admission
- [00:07:05.620]to University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:07:08.480]And then they must file the FAFSA
- [00:07:10.430]by the priority deadline of April 1st,
- [00:07:12.970]and submit all those requested documents
- [00:07:15.100]for MyRED by June 1st
- [00:07:16.920]if they were selected for verification.
- [00:07:20.260]So, this is where it's very important
- [00:07:22.210]that students get their FAFSA in early.
- [00:07:24.330]So, kinda like we were talking about in the prior webinars.
- [00:07:27.350]The priority deadline is our cutoff to be able to say
- [00:07:30.527]"Anyone who files prior to April 1st and we get that FAFSA,
- [00:07:34.950]we have them in the priority pool
- [00:07:36.390]for all of the institutional funds.
- [00:07:38.260]And also for us to be able to look at them
- [00:07:40.080]for Nebraska Promise."
- [00:07:41.950]If they file after April 1st, we cannot guarantee
- [00:07:45.250]that those funds will still be available,
- [00:07:46.970]and cannot guarantee that we can officially recognize them
- [00:07:50.150]as Nebraska Promise.
- [00:07:51.650]So, if you have any students
- [00:07:53.170]who you think might be able to benefit from this program,
- [00:07:55.820]make sure that they file that FAFSA soon.
- [00:07:58.870]Try to get that done in this next month.
- [00:08:01.500]So, once we receive that FAFSA,
- [00:08:03.910]eligible students are identified automatically.
- [00:08:06.290]So, like I said, if their income is below that 60,000
- [00:08:09.400]or they're Pell Grant eligible,
- [00:08:10.970]then when they receive that award letter,
- [00:08:13.190]there's actually going to be the Nebraska Promise logo
- [00:08:15.910]up in the top right hand corner.
- [00:08:17.680]So, that lovely book opening with Nebraska Promise.
- [00:08:20.940]If they see that in the top right corner,
- [00:08:22.730]they have it and they don't have to worry at all.
- [00:08:25.420]If they don't see it and they think they should be eligible,
- [00:08:27.840]have them give us a call and we can take a look at it.
- [00:08:30.700]So, let's just say you have a student who...
- [00:08:33.620]Parents made like $61,000. They didn't get Pell Grant.
- [00:08:37.720]So, they're just over and they're like,
- [00:08:40.307]"Oh, dang it. What do I do?"
- [00:08:41.880]Have them give us a call.
- [00:08:42.940]Because there are certain times where we can do
- [00:08:44.850]what's called a special circumstance appeal,
- [00:08:47.040]where we can take a look at the student's income
- [00:08:49.430]and see if potentially we can actually go
- [00:08:52.020]through that process to have them go
- [00:08:53.640]below that 60,000 AGI and then be eligible.
- [00:08:57.240]It is not a guarantee.
- [00:08:58.760]And they also do need to complete that prior to June 1st.
- [00:09:02.280]So, once again, if you have any students
- [00:09:04.897]who are going through that process,
- [00:09:06.840]the sooner they contact us the better.
- [00:09:13.520]So, once they get that award letter,
- [00:09:15.230]this is a lot of students get confused
- [00:09:17.100]because they see the lovely Nebraska Promise logo
- [00:09:20.320]but they don't see an award that says, "Nebraska Promise."
- [00:09:23.760]So, when it comes to Nebraska Promise,
- [00:09:26.440]it's not actually a scholarship so much as a guarantee
- [00:09:29.720]or what we like to say a commitment.
- [00:09:32.340]So, what we mean by this is
- [00:09:33.750]that we are basically saying that
- [00:09:35.700]as long as the student is meeting the eligibility criteria,
- [00:09:39.140]we will make sure they have gift aid
- [00:09:41.400]or funding they don't need to pay back
- [00:09:43.800]to pay their 15 credit hours per semester of tuition.
- [00:09:47.760]So, that can appear in a variety of ways.
- [00:09:51.090]So, they won't see actually Nebraska Promise scholarship.
- [00:09:54.290]What they will see is a patchwork of different grants
- [00:09:57.300]whether it be academic scholarships, college scholarships,
- [00:10:01.350]or even just some of the more common grants
- [00:10:03.666]and aid you may see in order to fulfill that promise.
- [00:10:07.490]So, some of the ones you will probably,
- [00:10:10.580]most likely see on there would be if you have a student
- [00:10:13.210]who receives an academic scholarship.
- [00:10:15.460]So, let's just say you have a Regent scholar.
- [00:10:17.870]The Regent's award would actually fulfill
- [00:10:19.830]the Nebraska Promise.
- [00:10:21.450]However, let's just say, God forbid,
- [00:10:23.830]they lose that Regent at some point while they're in school.
- [00:10:26.950]If they lost that Regent's award
- [00:10:28.930]but they still were meeting that 2.5 GPA,
- [00:10:32.230]we would then be able to come in
- [00:10:33.300]with other aid to make up for that loss.
- [00:10:35.910]So, it is a way of a security blanket
- [00:10:38.240]for these students where...
- [00:10:39.520]Just say, yes, that scholarship would've been there anyway
- [00:10:42.830]but now they have that safety net.
- [00:10:44.960]Where as long as they're meeting that eligibility criteria,
- [00:10:47.180]we can make sure that they still get that funding.
- [00:10:50.720]So, the other things you may see will be college
- [00:10:52.770]and departmental scholarships, Nebraska Foundation,
- [00:10:56.000]and other types of foundation scholarships
- [00:10:58.220]or opportunity grants,
- [00:11:00.070]Federal Pell Grants,
- [00:11:01.540]and then also any sort of tuition assistance grants.
- [00:11:03.990]So, the most common ones you'll see
- [00:11:05.250]will be like military tuition waivers.
- [00:11:07.290]So, just say you have a student who has parents
- [00:11:09.790]that are allocating military funds.
- [00:11:11.730]Those would also be considered to fulfill
- [00:11:14.440]the commitment for Nebraska Promise.
- [00:11:17.290]Now, the things that will never fulfill Nebraska Promise
- [00:11:19.960]would be any private scholarships,
- [00:11:22.380]external scholarships, or loan funds,
- [00:11:24.910]or any type of fund that would have to be paid back.
- [00:11:27.610]'Cause that's not a really good promise, is it?
- [00:11:29.310]So, yeah. We're not gonna count loans
- [00:11:31.770]or anything that need to be paid back towards that.
- [00:11:34.030]And the most common one that we hear people ask
- [00:11:36.200]about with this is Buffet.
- [00:11:38.100]We do not count Buffet as counting Nebraska Promise.
- [00:11:40.820]That is a separate award.
- [00:11:42.490]So, if you have a Buffet scholar,
- [00:11:44.270]they would receive the Buffet plus the commitment
- [00:11:47.020]to make sure we're fulfilling that total promise
- [00:11:50.700]to fulfill the tuition scholarship.
- [00:11:56.660]So, finally, some frequently asked questions.
- [00:11:59.160]So, the most common question we receive from families is,
- [00:12:02.387]"Why is there still a charge for tuition on their account
- [00:12:04.800]if they have Nebraska Promise?"
- [00:12:06.610]So, oftentimes, you hear Nebraska Promise
- [00:12:08.630]referred to as free tuition, right?
- [00:12:11.630]Which in a sense it is,
- [00:12:12.690]'cause we're making sure that's gonna be covered.
- [00:12:15.640]But students will still be charged for tuition.
- [00:12:18.410]They just will have financial aid
- [00:12:19.920]that will cover up to that 15 credit hours
- [00:12:22.080]of tuition costs to offset that charge.
- [00:12:25.230]So, a way that I've explained it to students is
- [00:12:28.060]think about it is if you had a coupon
- [00:12:29.710]for, like, a free plushie and you went to Walmart.
- [00:12:32.320]They will scan the plushie first and then the coupon.
- [00:12:34.840]And then on the receipt,
- [00:12:35.700]you're gonna see $15 for the plushie
- [00:12:38.100]minus $15 for the plushie.
- [00:12:40.220]Same thing goes for us here at UNL.
- [00:12:43.350]We have to charge the tuition in order to make sure
- [00:12:45.450]we are meeting that tuition with your aid.
- [00:12:48.870]So, the other really common question we get from,
- [00:12:52.050]also from counselors is,
- [00:12:53.657]"Does Nebraska Promise for summer coursework?"
- [00:12:56.350]There are a number of different majors and programs
- [00:12:59.260]on campus that oftentimes students are encouraged
- [00:13:02.380]to take classes over summer.
- [00:13:04.350]Unfortunately, no.
- [00:13:05.310]The Nebraska Promise does not cover summer coursework.
- [00:13:08.190]However, we do have what's called the summer tuition grant,
- [00:13:12.040]which this is awarded based on very similar criteria.
- [00:13:15.910]So, if you have a student who is a Nebraska Promise student,
- [00:13:18.770]they will more than likely also be eligible
- [00:13:20.660]for the summer tuition grant,
- [00:13:21.870]which will cover a very similar amount
- [00:13:24.140]that the Nebraska Promise would.
- [00:13:25.910]So, in order for them to get that funding,
- [00:13:28.560]we do have what's called a summer aid application.
- [00:13:31.100]It's really short.
- [00:13:32.450]Not at all.
- [00:13:33.450]Don't be for it. It's very easy.
- [00:13:36.090]They fill it out when they wanna take summer classes
- [00:13:38.570]and basically that can allow us to award that extra funding.
- [00:13:43.070]So, another really common one is,
- [00:13:44.637]"If a student is a Spring Admit," meaning that they applied
- [00:13:48.070]and they are starting in a spring semester,
- [00:13:50.667]"can they still receive the Nebraska Promise?"
- [00:13:52.950]Unfortunately, no. At least not for that first semester.
- [00:13:56.610]So, students must meet all applicable deadlines
- [00:13:59.170]including filing the FAFSA and being admitted
- [00:14:02.180]by that April 1st deadline of the year prior.
- [00:14:05.340]So, basically, if, just say,
- [00:14:08.240]that they're starting in spring,
- [00:14:10.190]once they file their FAFSA for next year,
- [00:14:12.140]they very well could be eligible for the FAFSA
- [00:14:15.070]for fall and spring of the following year.
- [00:14:18.140]But that first spring semester,
- [00:14:19.930]they will not be eligible for Nebraska Promise.
- [00:14:22.070]However, that does not mean
- [00:14:23.210]they won't be receiving any grant aid.
- [00:14:24.800]That does not mean they're not gonna be receiving
- [00:14:26.020]any other additional aid.
- [00:14:27.530]It just won't be officially recognized as Nebraska Promise.
- [00:14:30.720]So, they should still absolutely file their FAFSA,
- [00:14:33.070]come chat with us,
- [00:14:34.070]and we can definitely see how much
- [00:14:36.040]of the institutional funding is left in that pot
- [00:14:38.570]to be able to help them pay for that semester.
- [00:14:43.350]And finally, if a student is in a course of study
- [00:14:46.210]that has differential tuition.
- [00:14:47.990]So, higher than base rate tuition.
- [00:14:50.080]So, some of the common ones would be college of business,
- [00:14:52.410]engineering,
- [00:14:53.580]where it's slightly higher than your average class.
- [00:14:57.350]Will the Nebraska Promise still cover those credit hours?
- [00:14:59.830]And the answer is yes.
- [00:15:01.260]So, they will have their award initially put out there
- [00:15:05.180]prior to when they register.
- [00:15:06.990]And then once they register, we'll go through
- [00:15:08.840]and make sure they don't have any of those classes
- [00:15:10.880]that cause that tuition to go up a little bit.
- [00:15:13.250]And if they do, then we'll adjust
- [00:15:15.070]and just be sure to fill in with a bit more grants
- [00:15:18.030]to cover that difference in cost.
- [00:15:20.250]So, it'll only be up to 15 credit hours however.
- [00:15:23.390]So, if just say a student takes 16, 17, 18,
- [00:15:26.790]we will only cover up to that 15 credit hour mark.
- [00:15:32.170]And so, like I said, this one's pretty short and sweet.
- [00:15:35.160]So, I do want to leave this up.
- [00:15:38.330]So, you have our contact information.
- [00:15:40.280]But now, I wanna open it up to y'all
- [00:15:41.960]to see what questions do you have about Nebraska Promise
- [00:15:45.020]or about any of the other topics we've covered,
- [00:15:47.850]such as how to receive an interpreting award letter,
- [00:15:50.580]financial aid verification, FAFSA.
- [00:15:53.350]Really, anything that has been coming up
- [00:15:54.770]with you and your students, I'm happy to answer.
- [00:16:04.630]So, I did just receive a question about,
- [00:16:06.927]"Does the Nebraska Promise cover things
- [00:16:08.780]such as books, housing meals, et cetera?"
- [00:16:11.540]So, unfortunately, Nebraska Promise only will cover tuition.
- [00:16:14.630]So, basically, when you're talking about
- [00:16:17.760]what the commitment will cover,
- [00:16:19.420]it is the tuition of, like, 15 credit hours.
- [00:16:22.710]So, if just say the student has fees, which they will,
- [00:16:27.000]or books, housing meals,
- [00:16:28.270]that is not considered part of the commitment.
- [00:16:31.010]So, that is something that is completely separate.
- [00:16:33.950]But of course, if just say they have other funding
- [00:16:37.410]that goes above what the cost of tuition is,
- [00:16:40.090]then of course that can go towards those costs.
- [00:16:42.270]So, they're not completely SOL. Don't worry.
- [00:16:47.890]So, Maureen has a great question.
- [00:16:52.650]Do you have to re-qualify the Nebraska Promise each year
- [00:16:55.160]through FAFSA submission?
- [00:16:56.290]Yes.
- [00:16:57.270]So, they do have to file their FAFSA each year by April 1st
- [00:17:00.820]and meet that eligibility criteria.
- [00:17:03.070]So, especially for continuing students,
- [00:17:05.550]I always like to tell them to really make sure to file early
- [00:17:08.800]'cause of oftentimes parent's income, they fluctuate.
- [00:17:11.640]And if one year, they're slightly over,
- [00:17:13.580]it's good for them to be able to know that so they can plan.
- [00:17:16.660]And also for us to potentially look at them
- [00:17:18.620]for that special circumstance appeal.
- [00:17:20.770]So, they do have to qualify each year.
- [00:17:23.140]And the good news about that is that if you have a student
- [00:17:25.380]who didn't qualify for the first two years
- [00:17:27.520]might magically qualify their junior year,
- [00:17:29.190]and be like, "Hey, where all this money come from?"
- [00:17:30.810]This is awesome."
- [00:17:31.760]So, they can qualify at any point during their time.
- [00:17:36.480]So, question from Alex to clarify.
- [00:17:38.867]"Does any amount of Pell Grant received
- [00:17:40.670]make a student eligible for Nebraska Promise
- [00:17:42.640]as long as they meet other requirements?"
- [00:17:44.400]Yes. So, basically even if they have the...
- [00:17:48.500]They were just hitting Pell Grant eligibility
- [00:17:51.660]where they make like $500 a Pell Grant a semester.
- [00:17:55.120]Yes. That is Pell Grant eligible.
- [00:17:57.770]And that means that they are Nebraska Promise eligible.
- [00:18:03.920]So, from Sarah, "How are students selected
- [00:18:06.020]for this year's Regent's scholarships?
- [00:18:07.950]Also, how much are they worth?"
- [00:18:09.690]So, for Regent's, that is based on a holistic review.
- [00:18:12.460]So, as they apply for the institution,
- [00:18:17.360]then basically we take a look at their high school GPA.
- [00:18:22.000]And then if they have an ACT score,
- [00:18:23.630]we also take into account their ACT score.
- [00:18:25.860]So, ACT is still considered to be test optional.
- [00:18:29.550]So, how we will do this is
- [00:18:31.520]that we'll look at their GPA first.
- [00:18:33.730]If they qualify based on GPA, we're done.
- [00:18:35.850]That's beautiful. Wonderful.
- [00:18:37.440]If they don't qualify based on GPA,
- [00:18:39.800]then we move on to looking at ACT.
- [00:18:41.760]And we only will use the ACT if it helps them.
- [00:18:44.360]So, if it bumps them up a little bit to a higher award,
- [00:18:47.770]whether Regent's are any other academic scholarship,
- [00:18:50.660]we'll use that.
- [00:18:51.690]If the ACT is there
- [00:18:53.870]but not necessarily outstanding enough to bump them up,
- [00:18:57.450]then we will definitely just take a look at them together
- [00:18:59.840]and get them the award that they can,
- [00:19:02.020]that'll be the best thing for their eligibility.
- [00:19:06.530]But overall, how much they are worth?
- [00:19:08.500]So, it's technically very similar to the Nebraska Promise.
- [00:19:12.530]It is basically covering the tuition
- [00:19:14.780]of up to 15 credit hours per semester.
- [00:19:16.500]So, it's actually a very similar type of award.
- [00:19:20.190]Only one's a scholarship and one's a commitment.
- [00:19:22.070]So, if you have a student who maybe missed out in Regent's
- [00:19:25.550]but they are Nebraska Promise eligible,
- [00:19:27.740]then they actually might be getting
- [00:19:28.980]very similar amount of aid.
- [00:19:34.424]Does that answer your question, Sarah?
- [00:19:40.420]Oh, awesome.
- [00:19:42.530]There we go. I'll unmute myself.
- [00:19:43.910]Yes, it did. Thank you.
- [00:19:45.120]Wonderful.
- [00:19:48.900]Any other questions?
- [00:19:56.700]Well, I'll say then please just tell all your coworkers
- [00:20:00.480]that the webinar is still going and steal back some time.
- [00:20:02.890]Get some admin time.
- [00:20:05.734]Well, thank you so much, Kristy.
- [00:20:06.710]And again, thanks to everybody for joining us today.
- [00:20:08.630]So, just a couple of very fast reminders
- [00:20:10.820]for those of you who are on the call.
- [00:20:12.390]So, Nebraska's in-person admitted student day
- [00:20:14.840]is coming up on Saturday, March 26th.
- [00:20:17.670]We're expecting nearly a thousand admitted students.
- [00:20:20.190]I think we have five or 600 registered so far.
- [00:20:22.280]And there are families to join us
- [00:20:23.520]for a day of all things Husker.
- [00:20:25.630]So, please encourage your students to get registered
- [00:20:28.580]for this kind of countdown to move in day event.
- [00:20:31.180]Also, as Kristy mentioned, the FAFSA's due April 1st.
- [00:20:34.190]Takes a couple days to get your ID,
- [00:20:36.080]and then it takes a good week or 10 days
- [00:20:38.170]to complete send and for us to receive the results.
- [00:20:41.380]So, please encourage your students
- [00:20:42.570]and families to start now,
- [00:20:43.700]or at least by mid-March for the best possible aid package.
- [00:20:47.240]And once your students submit their enrollment deposit,
- [00:20:49.480]they'll gain access to the housing contract
- [00:20:51.860]for roommate and room selections.
- [00:20:53.660]And then lastly, they'll hear
- [00:20:54.790]from our new student enrollment team in early May,
- [00:20:57.440]and that's where they can sign up for in-person orientation.
- [00:20:59.960]They get to come on campus and meet future Huskers.
- [00:21:02.370]And then also a separate virtual advising appointment
- [00:21:05.120]to select fall courses.
- [00:21:06.840]They also have to take the math placement exam.
- [00:21:09.560]Little bit of anxiety there, but they get three tries.
- [00:21:11.950]So, everybody has to take that.
- [00:21:13.570]There's also an advising inventory
- [00:21:15.020]that they'll need to take before they can register
- [00:21:16.810]for that virtual advising appointment.
- [00:21:18.840]So, thanks again for joining us.
- [00:21:20.260]Again, we're gonna compile the recordings
- [00:21:22.050]from all three sessions,
- [00:21:23.400]and those will go out by email to you,
- [00:21:25.130]probably about the first part of March
- [00:21:26.640]or the first week of March.
- [00:21:28.150]And if you have any feedback about these sessions,
- [00:21:29.910]please feel free to let us know.
- [00:21:31.450]And again, thanks so much for joining us,
- [00:21:33.370]and have a great rest of your day.
