- [00:00:05.044]Hunter Suchsland and Cade Ludwig
- [00:00:06.840]turned a passion for fishing into a thriving business,
- [00:00:10.040]creating handmade fishing lures.
- [00:00:12.690]Right now we're currently selling to Scheels
- [00:00:14.040]here in Lincoln, and then a lot of our business is online
- [00:00:17.840]across the country.
- [00:00:18.673]I think we sold to 14 states this year
- [00:00:21.000]in our first year of doing it.
- [00:00:22.490]LS LURES got its start
- [00:00:24.160]in the Venture Laboratory, a class offered
- [00:00:26.720]through the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.
- [00:00:30.180]They gave us $50, told us, "Go make a business out of it."
- [00:00:34.150]So we just went head first into it
- [00:00:37.170]and turned out making it into something we really like.
- [00:00:40.710]Later, the students were awarded $25,000
- [00:00:44.130]when they won the UNL College of Business
- [00:00:46.450]New Venture Competition.
- [00:00:48.407](clipper closing)
- [00:00:49.250]We get nice and tight shot.
- [00:00:50.940]The lures come together
- [00:00:52.190]with molten lead and paint.
- [00:00:54.090]Customers are drawn to the creative patterns and colors.
- [00:00:57.730]Honestly, the color is killer for them.
- [00:01:01.270]Having something that they've never really seen,
- [00:01:03.290]that they can try out on their home water.
- [00:01:05.530]Balancing school and business can be tough,
- [00:01:08.150]but the students make it work.
- [00:01:10.270]They call us the night owls
- [00:01:11.490]because we go to classes all day
- [00:01:13.300]and then go to work at night and come back
- [00:01:15.350]to the Engler building and make lures
- [00:01:17.030]until three in the morning and do it again and again
- [00:01:19.230]and again, every week.
- [00:01:20.820]After graduating in May,
- [00:01:22.300]the students plan to expand LS LURES,
- [00:01:25.080]both in stores and online.
- [00:01:27.687]And hopefully we can get big enough
- [00:01:29.970]that we can move down south
- [00:01:31.220]and have maybe a storefront down there,
- [00:01:33.240]which would be really cool.
- [00:01:34.246](upbeat music)
- [00:01:35.079]In spite of the work,
- [00:01:36.080]LS LURES has been worth it.
- [00:01:37.667](upbeat music)
- [00:01:38.500]The Engler Program has really just supported everything
- [00:01:40.760]I ever wanted to do, being my own boss
- [00:01:42.930]and being able to think independently
- [00:01:44.760]and kind of do whatever I want,
- [00:01:46.160]which is working in the fishing industry, has been amazing.
