- [00:00:00.150]Welcome back, we're at halftime here.
- [00:00:01.320]The Huskers matchup tonight against the Indiana Hoosiers.
- [00:00:03.510]Greg Sharp back
- [00:00:04.343]on our Huskers Radio Network Broadcast Center,
- [00:00:06.030]and delighted to be joined now
- [00:00:06.920]by the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:00:09.220]Ronnie Green, and I know you've had a lot of fun
- [00:00:11.480]watching this team play throughout the season,
- [00:00:13.420]and they're in a really tough stretch right now,
- [00:00:15.040]playing ranked teams, but boy,
- [00:00:17.390]folks haven't seen this team play yet,
- [00:00:19.550]Chancellor I would think,
- [00:00:20.510]do they need to be out there and go support this group?
- [00:00:22.450]Oh, absolutely, Greg.
- [00:00:23.566]You know my message is,
- [00:00:25.394]if you're not tuned into this broadcast,
- [00:00:28.193]if you're in the arena already to see this team,
- [00:00:31.530]you're missing out on a lot of fun, right?
- [00:00:33.960]As we've seen in some key games already this season,
- [00:00:38.132]you know, the Michigan game certainly comes to mind.
- [00:00:41.040]The Drake game comes to mind.
- [00:00:43.020]You know, a great game against Iowa here this past week too.
- [00:00:46.990]You know, it's just a fun team to watch.
- [00:00:49.660]They always compete.
- [00:00:51.210]They play hard on both sides of the ball (indistinct).
- [00:00:54.960]I was at the Iowa game and you know,
- [00:00:56.970]we didn't get the result we wanted maybe
- [00:00:58.620]at the end of that game, but you know,
- [00:01:00.680]that was a great basketball game all the way around.
- [00:01:03.220]So, been really great to see the team step up in new ways.
- [00:01:06.049]Like they've done better the past couple of weeks
- [00:01:08.390]in rebounding, and we might just see the beginning
- [00:01:11.470]of what they can be with a lot of young players on the team.
- [00:01:14.590]You know, obviously you got Alex in there year
- [00:01:16.580]as a freshman, you know, playing the way she is.
- [00:01:20.150]Looking forward to seeing what they can do
- [00:01:21.550]in the second half today against Indiana.
- [00:01:23.158]Should be fun.
- [00:01:24.230]Well, a little interesting here, we are mid January
- [00:01:26.066]and the spring semester is yet to begin.
- [00:01:28.140]A little later start to the spring semester.
- [00:01:30.210]How did that come about?
- [00:01:32.580]Well, you know, this pandemic that we're now
- [00:01:34.760]in year three almost of, believe it or not,
- [00:01:36.879]you know, it modified a lot of things for us
- [00:01:39.770]the last couple of years.
- [00:01:40.890]And you might remember a year ago,
- [00:01:43.170]we delayed coming back for spring semester
- [00:01:45.670]even a little further.
- [00:01:46.740]We had finished the fall term before Thanksgiving
- [00:01:50.339]in that year and we delayed coming back
- [00:01:53.400]with the pandemic feeling like
- [00:01:54.820]it was gonna be a little dicier in the winter.
- [00:01:57.146]So this year we had set our schedule
- [00:02:00.200]to start a week later than we normally do,
- [00:02:02.490]starting after MLK Day next week, rather than before,
- [00:02:07.490]and that allows us to get in a two-week intersession.
- [00:02:11.910]So we started on right after new years
- [00:02:14.440]with an intersession for mostly two-credit courses
- [00:02:18.292]that our students are enrolled in,
- [00:02:20.170]some one-credit courses,
- [00:02:22.140]that is a two-week session for them
- [00:02:24.270]that wraps up the end of this week.
- [00:02:27.069]We last year did those as three-week sessions,
- [00:02:30.500]had a huge enrollment.
- [00:02:31.681]It sped up a lot of graduation
- [00:02:33.378]for a number of our seniors last year
- [00:02:35.910]and graduated in May, earlier than they had thought.
- [00:02:40.100]These intersessions are designed around careers,
- [00:02:44.201]they're designed around experiential learning.
- [00:02:47.515]You know, they're also exploring
- [00:02:49.560]some grand challenge framework topics as part of that.
- [00:02:53.201]So that two-week session,
- [00:02:56.340]we got that in here at the beginning of January.
- [00:02:58.603]Starts us a week later.
- [00:03:00.043]We get it done a week later in May this year
- [00:03:04.320]than we normally would.
- [00:03:06.230]And we also, for the first time in a long time,
- [00:03:09.110]and I know a lot of parents out there excited about this,
- [00:03:12.040]are aligned with the Lincoln Public Schools
- [00:03:14.240]in terms of Spring Break,
- [00:03:15.810]which we had been kind of off on for a number of years.
- [00:03:19.240]So all of that fits really well.
- [00:03:21.760]Fits to our desire here to be the best place to be a student
- [00:03:26.215]in the Big 10 and allows our students
- [00:03:28.930]to move forward successfully.
- [00:03:30.640]Very good.
- [00:03:31.473]Well, great to update us on that.
- [00:03:32.530]Have a wonderful spring semester.
- [00:03:34.010]We'll be checking in with you periodically
- [00:03:36.400]throughout the spring semester.
- [00:03:37.370]Enjoy the rest of this game.
- [00:03:38.700]Go Big Red.
- [00:03:39.622]There's Ronnie Green with us here at halftime.
- [00:03:41.290]We've got more coming up next.
