- [00:00:00.120]Gregory gymnasium is the site tonight, Austin, Texas,
- [00:00:03.140]Nebraska, and the Illinois fighting align.
- [00:00:06.390]I have for a chance to face either Washington or Texas,
- [00:00:09.850]the big pack 12 or the big 12 champion,
- [00:00:13.100]but we have a special opportunity to speak with the
- [00:00:14.790]chancellor of university of Nebraska Lincoln, Ronnie green.
- [00:00:17.700]Chancellor's a huge volleyball fan.
- [00:00:19.740]And first year round successful for Nebraska.
- [00:00:22.070]Now, round three, how he thinks things might go tonight.
- [00:00:25.100]Well, it's exciting to be in the sweet 16 once again,
- [00:00:29.410]all these years that we've been in that process and this
- [00:00:32.300]volleyball team is just fun to watch excited to see how the
- [00:00:35.950]team performs against the Eliana Hawkin.
- [00:00:38.460]We've seen him a couple of times this year and they've had
- [00:00:40.450]great success.
- [00:00:41.290]So just coming off these wins and the first two rounds
- [00:00:44.980]soundly and sweeps the way that they were a little different
- [00:00:48.910]now that we're in Austin, Texas,
- [00:00:50.760]that great place in the world, you know,
- [00:00:52.260]rather than in the confines of our friendly Devani center,
- [00:00:56.080]we know our team will come,
- [00:00:57.450]that will compete the play as a team.
- [00:00:59.580]They represent our university at the highest levels and in
- [00:01:02.950]so well,
- [00:01:03.783]and we're really proud of them and looking forward to a
- [00:01:05.440]great, great match.
- [00:01:06.500]The chancellor,
- [00:01:07.500]there was a huge announcement earlier this week,
- [00:01:10.050]the largest research award and UNL history.
- [00:01:14.100]What can you tell us about that?
- [00:01:15.600]Well, very exciting.
- [00:01:16.661]We did received the news from the national science
- [00:01:20.320]foundation earlier this week and announced to the university
- [00:01:24.910]of $51.25 million research award
- [00:01:27.291]of $51.25 million research award
- [00:01:30.140]to our department of physics.
- [00:01:32.780]It is a five-year grant
- [00:01:34.117]It is a five-year grant
- [00:01:35.250]to lead the U S effort and working
- [00:01:38.410]with the, the CERN large Hadron Collider,
- [00:01:41.910]the super Collider that we've worked with for a number of
- [00:01:44.750]years near Geneva, Switzerland, you know, it's a,
- [00:01:47.020]it's a big deal.
- [00:01:48.840]The grant, as we mentioned, is the largest in UNO history.
- [00:01:52.650]It will enable the coordination of 1200 physicists all over
- [00:01:56.690]the United States,
- [00:01:57.710]19 leading institutions around the country that will lead
- [00:02:02.590]and will be the coordinator for the funding will support the
- [00:02:06.600]U S CMS detector operations program,
- [00:02:09.662]which we will now lead through 2026 for this next five-year
- [00:02:14.350]period.
- [00:02:15.860]By analyzing these data,
- [00:02:17.830]the scientists can unlock mysteries about the university's
- [00:02:21.110]origins and composition and glean insight into the laws of
- [00:02:24.550]nature. So it's really basic science research in that way.
- [00:02:29.440]Partnering institutions,
- [00:02:30.800]just to give you a little bit of an idea of who were,
- [00:02:32.960]who were leading MIT, Caltech, Princeton, Cornell,
- [00:02:37.730]amongst others, you know,
- [00:02:38.830]leading institutions nationally and led by our own Ken bloom
- [00:02:43.500]professor of physics here,
- [00:02:45.119]he's the principal investigator for the effort.
- [00:02:48.915]Ken has worked with the Hadron supercollider for a number of
- [00:02:52.460]years in his own work.
- [00:02:53.880]He's been one of the leaders nationally and internationally
- [00:02:56.640]in this arena.
- [00:02:58.632]And it builds on what is a little known secret for many
- [00:03:01.930]people in Nebraska at our physics and astronomy program at
- [00:03:05.940]Nebraska is amongst the very top in the world and has been
- [00:03:10.380]for some time. And just a huge, exciting thing to see this,
- [00:03:13.786]this largest grant ever for the university of Nebraska,
- [00:03:18.057]$51 million national science foundation award.
- [00:03:21.760]Chancellor, Ronnie green,
- [00:03:23.220]great news for big red and tonight the Huskers,
- [00:03:25.910]your Huskers take on the fighting.
