- [00:00:16.760]of cooking meals or snacks ahead of time
- [00:00:19.200]for future use later in the week.
- [00:00:21.430]It's a great option for on the go snacks or meals
- [00:00:24.430]that are healthy and convenient.
- [00:00:27.740]Some people may ask, "Why meal prep?"
- [00:00:30.420]Meal prepping is a convenient, efficient,
- [00:00:32.730]and money-saving practice
- [00:00:34.460]that reduces the amount of food waste that is thrown out
- [00:00:37.220]due to left over food.
- [00:00:39.140]It also helps to ensure
- [00:00:40.600]that you consume the right portion sizes
- [00:00:42.870]and is less stressful than making a new meal each day.
- [00:00:46.750]Today, we will go over the four simple steps of meal prep.
- [00:00:50.520]The first step is to find a recipe that looks good
- [00:00:53.740]and can be easily made ahead of time.
- [00:00:56.950]Make sure that the food
- [00:00:57.840]can be stored well in the fridge or freezer
- [00:00:59.890]and will reheat nicely.
- [00:01:01.730]Also, try to find recipes that can be easily doubled
- [00:01:04.660]or scaled down to fit the amount of food you want to make.
- [00:01:08.830]Next, write a detailed shopping list
- [00:01:10.980]of all of the ingredients you need for your recipe.
- [00:01:17.080]Then, head to your local store or market
- [00:01:19.560]to pick up all the necessary ingredients.
- [00:01:22.630]One important aspect of meal prepping
- [00:01:24.600]is ensuring that you have the proper storage containers
- [00:01:27.240]to store your meals or snacks.
- [00:01:29.510]The storage containers should not leak air
- [00:01:31.970]and should have a tight seal
- [00:01:33.160]to ensure that your food will stay fresh longer.
- [00:01:37.040]It is best to meal prep for only four to five days
- [00:01:39.960]to ensure that your food will stay good and fresh
- [00:01:42.530]when you decide to eat it.
- [00:01:44.800]Another helpful tip
- [00:01:45.880]is to try and meal prep two to three recipes at one time
- [00:01:49.440]to create more of a variety in your diet.
- [00:01:52.150]This will allow you
- [00:01:53.290]to avoid consuming the same meal each day
- [00:01:55.840]and give you more options
- [00:01:57.090]whenever you decide to eat your lunch or snack.
- [00:02:00.520]I'm Dani Higgins with Dining Services,
- [00:02:02.570]and thanks for watching.
