- [00:00:03.530]Hi, welcome to a new session of Husker Hub Explains.
- [00:00:05.940]We hope these videos work as a visual resource
- [00:00:08.200]to help you handle the business of being a Husker.
- [00:00:10.770]Here at Husker Hub
- [00:00:11.610]we help with a lot of things from scholarships
- [00:00:13.740]to financial aid,
- [00:00:15.160]student billing, or enrolling in classes
- [00:00:17.210]just to name of you.
- [00:00:18.780]But in this video specifically
- [00:00:20.190]we'll be talking about satisfactory academic progress,
- [00:00:23.340]what it is, and what that means for you as a student.
- [00:00:28.070]In order to receive federal financial aid,
- [00:00:30.230]students must be making satisfactory academic progress
- [00:00:33.410]towards completing their degree.
- [00:00:36.130]So what does this mean?
- [00:00:37.370]The guidelines for satisfactory academic progress
- [00:00:40.120]otherwise known as SAP,
- [00:00:41.890]is measured in the following way
- [00:00:43.520]for undergraduate students.
- [00:00:45.290]Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above,
- [00:00:49.760]successful completion of 67% of UNL attempted credit hours,
- [00:00:54.500]and complete your degree prior to reaching
- [00:00:56.680]the maximum credit hour limit of 180 attempted credit hours.
- [00:01:01.190]There are other maximums that exist for certain majors
- [00:01:04.330]such as engineering and architecture for example.
- [00:01:09.310]SAP is also measured in the following way
- [00:01:11.070]for graduate students.
- [00:01:13.020]They must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.06,
- [00:01:16.943]successful completion of 67% of UNL attempted credit hours,
- [00:01:21.390]and completing your degree prior to reaching
- [00:01:23.600]the maximum attempted credit hour limit
- [00:01:25.600]of 72 for the master's program,
- [00:01:27.950]and 140 for the doctoral program.
- [00:01:32.670]So how is completion rate calculated?
- [00:01:34.920]They take completed or earned UNL credit hours
- [00:01:38.160]divided by all UNL attempted credit hours.
- [00:01:41.330]So courses are considered earned
- [00:01:43.080]if you have received a grade of A+ through D-,
- [00:01:46.520]or P for passing.
- [00:01:48.410]Attempted courses includes earned credit hours,
- [00:01:51.330]and any incomplete, failed,
- [00:01:54.050]no pass or withdrawn credit hours.
- [00:01:56.700]For example if you have earned 16 credit hours,
- [00:01:59.613]and have attempted 24,
- [00:02:01.970]your completion rate would be considered 67%.
- [00:02:07.900]For the maximum credit hour limit
- [00:02:09.950]this includes all credit hours that have been attempted
- [00:02:13.200]as an undergrad including hours not taken at UNL.
- [00:02:16.910]So for example transfer credit hours
- [00:02:19.250]would be counted towards the 180 maximum credit hour limit.
- [00:02:23.550]Once you are approaching 120 attempted credit hours,
- [00:02:27.230]you will receive an email to alert you
- [00:02:29.220]that you are nearing the 180 maximum credit hour limit.
- [00:02:35.140]Why is this information important?
- [00:02:37.040]Maintaining satisfactory academic progress
- [00:02:39.020]is required to receive federal financial aid.
- [00:02:41.750]So for example when considering withdrawing form a course
- [00:02:45.080]reach us contacting Husker Hub
- [00:02:47.030]as it can impact things such as completion rate,
- [00:02:49.570]and we would be able to discuss such things with students.
- [00:02:56.720]So when is satisfactory academic progress reviewed?
- [00:02:59.800]This is measured annually
- [00:03:01.420]at the end of each spring semester.
- [00:03:03.860]So upon review if you are not meeting SAP
- [00:03:06.610]an email will be sent to notify you
- [00:03:08.650]of what further steps need to be taken.
- [00:03:14.000]There is a satisfactory academic progress appeal
- [00:03:16.800]that is available.
- [00:03:18.300]When student is not meeting SAP
- [00:03:20.010]they have the option of appealing
- [00:03:21.490]for possibility of reinstatement of eligibility.
- [00:03:24.840]Or you can work towards meeting SAP on your own
- [00:03:28.420]with no use of federal financial aid.
- [00:03:31.020]Once you are meeting SAP again
- [00:03:32.410]you can appeal to have it reinstated.
- [00:03:35.400]For any questions about the SAP appeal process
- [00:03:37.500]we recommend visiting a specialists at Husker Hub.
- [00:03:40.550]We can answer any questions related to the process,
