[00:00:12.510]I'm a Senior Biochemistry Major.
[00:00:14.910]McNair does a really good job of
[00:00:17.490]looking at where students who may be disadvantaged
[00:00:21.120]or may not have the same opportunities
[00:00:23.560]as their fellow students
[00:00:25.010]who want to go into high achieving fields.
[00:00:27.800]It's helped me figure out and solidify the idea of research.
[00:00:32.140]I was kind of on the fence of whether or not
[00:00:33.830]I wanted to pursue research or not.
[00:00:35.630]And so, McNair kind of just gave me
[00:00:37.330]that opportunity to discover it.
[00:00:40.600]The most important thing that
[00:00:42.320]I learned from working with Dr. Harris
[00:00:44.290]and from managing my own research project
[00:00:45.930]within the McNair program is the idea of
[00:00:48.510]having a support system that can be with you in
[00:00:51.570]and out of the classroom as well.
[00:00:54.050]Giving me mentorship in all areas
[00:00:56.110]and not just in research or not just in the classroom,
[00:00:59.620]but also giving me advice for post-grad opportunities,
[00:01:04.450]telling me his story and how he got into research.
[00:01:07.970]McNair is one of, I would say,
[00:01:09.930]probably the most impactful part of my college experience
[00:01:12.800]because it aids specifically in my intellectual development
[00:01:15.633]with a bunch of other young scientific learners.
[00:01:18.210]I can look at McNair and say that this is the reason
[00:01:21.230]why I want to pursue what I want to pursue
[00:01:23.280]and have the confidence to pursue it as well.
