- [00:00:00.250]Greg Sharpe back with you.
- [00:00:01.260]It's pre-game, the Huskers volleyball match today
- [00:00:03.290]against the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington
- [00:00:05.680]and delighted to sit down now with the chancellor
- [00:00:07.480]from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:09.700]Big day earlier this week, chancellor
- [00:00:11.610]with a signing period for a lot of our sports.
- [00:00:14.020]Not football but pretty much every other sport
- [00:00:15.720]had some signed athletes, including the volleyball program.
- [00:00:18.510]And John Cook, as we know,
- [00:00:19.890]usually puts together a heck of a class.
- [00:00:21.500]Looks like a great one here.
- [00:00:22.550]Well, sure is.
- [00:00:24.330]You know, following last year's really
- [00:00:26.170]kind of phenomenal class that came in and the freshmen
- [00:00:30.130]we've been seeing play this year so much on the team
- [00:00:32.990]and another great class three great new players
- [00:00:36.680]come into Husker volleyball, two locally,
- [00:00:39.360]Becca Alec from Waverley
- [00:00:40.920]and Maddie Macy Bosinger from Norris,
- [00:00:45.230]both coming excited about both of them.
- [00:00:47.280]And then from Des Moines, Maddie Cubic,
- [00:00:50.190]our junior outside hitter's younger sister
- [00:00:52.240]is going to be coming and we've all become very familiar
- [00:00:55.090]with Maddie and watched her great play for us
- [00:00:57.640]the last couple of years.
- [00:00:58.710]So excited for that recruiting class,
- [00:01:01.320]adding even more depth and talent to already
- [00:01:04.790]very talented team that we're looking forward
- [00:01:07.170]to watch the next several years from great recruiting
- [00:01:11.080]that has happened.
- [00:01:11.913]Welcome aboard, great to have all them now,
- [00:01:13.640]part of the Husker family.
- [00:01:15.130]That was on Wednesday, Thursday was a big day.
- [00:01:17.650]It was veteran's day, we celebrated that.
- [00:01:19.760]The university kicked off a special project to serve
- [00:01:22.670]as an everyday tribute to veterans.
- [00:01:24.610]What's the plan for this project?
- [00:01:26.860]Well, you know, Greg certainly Veteran's Day,
- [00:01:29.568]something we mark every year
- [00:01:32.670]to celebrate the service
- [00:01:35.540]of our veterans across the board and across history
- [00:01:38.240]that have protected our freedoms here that we have
- [00:01:40.980]and enjoy in this country.
- [00:01:42.420]And of course, Thursday was November 11th
- [00:01:44.837]and was veteran's day.
- [00:01:46.290]And, and last week before our Ohio State football game,
- [00:01:51.580]we, anticipating Veteran's Day, kicked off
- [00:01:55.520]and celebrated the beginning of the construction
- [00:01:58.170]of a new veterans tribute to be built here
- [00:02:01.120]at the university of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:02:02.890]That'll be part of Memorial Plaza,
- [00:02:05.570]just adjacent to the military and naval science building,
- [00:02:09.050]the Pershing building, as many people know it.
- [00:02:11.290]There on the corner of Memorial Plaza.
- [00:02:14.230]That will be a celebration of veterans and allow our
- [00:02:18.330]students and all visitors to our campus to on a daily basis,
- [00:02:22.430]think about and celebrate veterans.
- [00:02:24.740]But we've had this planning going on for almost three years,
- [00:02:29.250]working with the veterans communities.
- [00:02:31.730]Some might remember that on the celebration of the end
- [00:02:34.650]of World War One, hundredth year anniversary in 2018,
- [00:02:39.420]that celebrated the end of World War One.
- [00:02:41.470]We installed plaques inside Memorial stadium
- [00:02:44.530]that celebrated and remember the UNL students,
- [00:02:47.680]University of Nebraska students who served in World War One.
- [00:02:50.900]And at that time, we kind of kicked this planning off
- [00:02:53.600]about how to build a veteran's tribute
- [00:02:56.090]at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:02:58.010]So excited about that.
- [00:02:59.890]It's anticipated that it will be finished and complete
- [00:03:03.210]around Memorial day timeframe in 2022 for, you know,
- [00:03:08.560]people to enjoy for many generations to come.
- [00:03:11.350]It'll essentially be a new entrance
- [00:03:13.870]to military and naval science the way
- [00:03:16.150]a new Chevron that will be built there.
- [00:03:18.710]And then glass panels that people will walk through
- [00:03:22.150]as they go down Memorial Plaza that have been designed
- [00:03:25.780]to celebrate all Nebraska veterans over time.
- [00:03:30.090]So very, very excited about it.
- [00:03:31.560]Very pleased about it.
- [00:03:33.340]Led heavily by many in the veterans community,
- [00:03:37.800]particularly I'll call up Darryl Bohatch,
- [00:03:41.160]our adjutant major general that leads the Nebraska
- [00:03:44.060]national guard and the service units
- [00:03:46.560]here in Nebraska for the state.
- [00:03:48.970]He and many others that have contributed
- [00:03:50.780]to getting this done.
- [00:03:52.230]So excited about it and looking forward
- [00:03:55.250]to that getting placed so that we can celebrate veterans
- [00:03:58.370]on an ongoing basis for a long time to come.
- [00:04:00.760]Fantastic. Great information to pass along to us.
- [00:04:03.500]Enjoy the match later today.
- [00:04:04.850]Well go Big Red, beat the Hoosiers.
- [00:04:07.300]There he is, Ronnie Green with us
- [00:04:08.500]here on our pregame show.
- [00:04:09.800]We've got more volleyball pregame coming up next.
- [00:04:11.660]This is Big Red volleyball.
