[00:00:07.470]We want every student who walks
[00:00:09.080]into the College of Journalism
[00:00:11.080]and Mass Communications to be able to say
[00:00:13.830]that they experienced hands-on experiential learning
[00:00:17.980]from day one. And so,
[00:00:20.150]we're doing innovative things
[00:00:21.520]and we're thinking about providing relationships
[00:00:24.370]and connections between student experiences
[00:00:26.900]and industry professionals.
[00:00:29.050]Experiential learning,
[00:00:30.150]a hallmark of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:00:32.630]Part of our strategic plan,
[00:00:34.490]College of Journalism leading the way.
[00:00:36.320]So, you know, The Experience Lab,
[00:00:39.200]gives students an opportunity
[00:00:41.370]to do things they really can't do otherwise.
[00:00:44.010]Yeah, absolutely.
[00:00:44.990]So we have students working on different stories,
[00:00:47.310]we had a broadcasting student at the legislature
[00:00:50.410]this morning talking, interviewing
[00:00:52.330]one of the senators about the redistricting process.
[00:00:55.460]There's tons of opportunities, the advertising
[00:00:57.960]and public relations side of things.
[00:01:00.320]They're working day to day with clients,
[00:01:02.530]working on real-world work and stories.
[00:01:05.500]That's great.
[00:01:06.534]So, tell us a little bit about what it's like
[00:01:09.389]to be a student in the Experience Lab.
[00:01:11.250]Yeah, So I'm a student lead for Nebraska Nightly.
[00:01:13.680]So it's brand new;
[00:01:14.610]we've never done this before in this capacity.
[00:01:17.390]So I found it being one of my greatest challenges
[00:01:19.680]but also one of the most rewarding ones.
[00:01:21.400]And it changes every single day.
[00:01:23.560]And it works also really well
[00:01:25.070]with the classes I am taking.
[00:01:26.240]So they are all supplementing to give me
[00:01:27.800]this leadership and like academic experience.
[00:01:30.450]So, some days it means I'm answering
[00:01:32.530]a FaceTime in five minutes before class
[00:01:34.860]from a reporter as they can't figure out
[00:01:36.500]a camera in a last second shot.
[00:01:38.610]Other days, I'm someone's cheerleader
[00:01:40.540]after they get their first package together,
[00:01:42.960]or I'm that harsh critic when there's a jump cut
[00:01:45.830]that we've got to be able to learn from.
[00:01:48.120]But one of the most impactful experiences
[00:01:49.940]was definitely being able to see
[00:01:51.620]the confidence grow in my team.
[00:01:53.130]As we figured out the teleprompter works
[00:01:55.750]and got all the cameras together.
[00:01:57.200]It's like all this hard work and everything
[00:01:59.010]we're doing together is amazing.
[00:02:01.220]And I know that these reporters are gonna go out
[00:02:03.020]into the field with this real world experience,
[00:02:04.980]and revolutionize what journalism is doing.
[00:02:07.000]And we couldn't do that
[00:02:07.840]without the College of Journalism
[00:02:09.390]providing us an experience like this.
