[00:00:08.742]I'm Paul Springer,
[00:00:09.920]the Associate Dean for Student
[00:00:11.176]Success in the college.
[00:00:12.740]I'd like to welcome all of you back to
[00:00:14.671]a new and exciting semester in CEHS.
[00:00:18.110]Today, we're going to be
[00:00:18.984]meeting with William Wilton
[00:00:20.804]the current president of the
[00:00:22.162]college student advisory board.
[00:00:23.660]Thanks for joining us today, William.
[00:00:25.828]Yeah, thanks for having me, Paul.
[00:00:27.890]So I thought it would be really great.
[00:00:29.549]If you can tell all of our CEHS students,
[00:00:32.060]what major event do we have coming
[00:00:33.895]up that they won't want to miss?
[00:00:36.710]Yeah.
[00:00:37.100]So I've been getting ready for the
[00:00:38.959]CEHS Fall Welcome event,
[00:00:41.420]which will be September 14th,
[00:00:43.142]from four to seven o'clock.
[00:00:44.798]out in the city campus union
[00:00:46.243]in the Centennial room.
[00:00:48.170]This is an incredible
[00:00:49.114]event to attend, to get to
[00:00:50.576]feel more connected to the
[00:00:51.661]college, and get to meet people.
[00:00:53.930]We'll have people from the
[00:00:55.413]International Studies Office, there,
[00:00:57.257]will be the Advising Office,
[00:00:58.493]we'll have student organizations
[00:01:00.000]in our college.
[00:01:01.700]So it's a great opportunity to kind of
[00:01:03.243]get to know some of the experiences and
[00:01:05.690]opportunities that our college provides.
[00:01:07.640]And it's also a great way to meet
[00:01:08.994]other students within our college.
[00:01:11.510]So you can kind of get to know them and
[00:01:12.687]make it feel like CEHS is truly your home.
[00:01:15.818]There will also be free CEHS t-shirts,
[00:01:18.890]so you can stop on by and grab those and
[00:01:20.852]also, get to talk to some people at the event.

[00:01:26.728]well worth your time.

[00:01:33.260]why don't you talk a little bit about
[00:01:34.820]what the student advisory board is?
[00:01:36.590]So people understand what that is.
[00:01:38.960]Yeah.
[00:01:39.460]So the student advisory board is made up
[00:01:41.349]from a diverse group of students within
[00:01:43.220]our college.
[00:01:44.360]One of the great things about the
[00:01:45.548]College of Education and Human Sciences
[00:01:47.394]is that there is such a diverse
[00:01:48.943]set of majors that we offer.
[00:01:50.960]So the student advisory board is a group
[00:01:52.641]of students from all different majors
[00:01:54.500]that come together to talk about, kind
[00:01:56.268]of the future of our college
[00:01:57.859]and things that are currently
[00:01:59.030]going on within our college.
[00:02:00.650]It's a great opportunity for students to
[00:02:02.524]get to know faculty a little bit better
[00:02:04.700]and also get to know students better and
[00:02:06.867]have a say in what the college is going
[00:02:08.510]to look like in the future.
[00:02:09.951]In my time on the board,
[00:02:10.970]I've had the opportunity to see everything
[00:02:13.143]from talk about the five-year plan
[00:02:15.620]for the college
[00:02:16.468]and to talk about
[00:02:17.095]diversity, equity, and inclusion issues
[00:02:19.095]within our college.
[00:02:20.450]And also just to talk about some of
[00:02:22.040]the great things our college has done,
[00:02:24.040]and we've had the opportunity to recognize
[00:02:26.334]and reward some of the great work
[00:02:27.950]that faculty and staff and teachers
[00:02:30.060]around the state have done in our college.
[00:02:32.540]Yeah, that's really great.
[00:02:33.590]It's really awesome that CEHS elevates
[00:02:36.197]the student voices so well
[00:02:38.750]and it's through this organization.
[00:02:40.901]So how can someone get involved?
[00:02:43.880]One of the first things you can do to
[00:02:45.571]start to get involved, is to come to the
[00:02:47.240]Fall Welcome event, talk to the
[00:02:48.790]CEHS Student Advisory Board booth, there,
[00:02:51.032]to kind of learn more.
[00:02:52.806]And we have applications
[00:02:54.352]open twice a year,
[00:02:55.310]once in the fall, once in the spring.
[00:02:57.350]And the date for the application opening
[00:02:59.387]and closing will be coming out soon.
[00:03:01.270]So you can make sure to check out our
[00:03:03.172]social media
[00:03:04.126]and the college's social media
[00:03:06.316]to see when those dates are published.
[00:03:08.680]And I would definitely encourage everyone
[00:03:10.589]in our college to apply if they're
[00:03:12.520]interested in having a
[00:03:14.235]say in the future of the college.
