- [00:00:20.210]Côte d'Ivoire is a country located In the western part of Africa.
- [00:00:25.040]And today I'm going to share with you the story of my
- [00:00:29.540]tribe.
- [00:00:30.620]I'm going to tell you why is my tribe called
- [00:00:34.880]Baoule. So,
- [00:00:36.770]Let's start!
- [00:00:39.920]Let me introduce to you Queen Pokou. Queen Pokou was living
- [00:00:44.840]Long, long,
- [00:00:45.710]long ago in a country called Ghana. Queen Pokou was
- [00:00:50.240]living with her people at peace,
- [00:00:53.690]she was happy living there, enjoying life.
- [00:00:58.280]But one day, war started...so Queen Pokou
- [00:01:03.320]and her people had to run to save their lives
- [00:01:08.780]So she ran, she ran,
- [00:01:10.700]she ran, she ran with the people until
- [00:01:14.960]They reached a point where there was a river.
- [00:01:19.400]Do you see the river here? The name of the river is called Komoe.
- [00:01:25.250]So when they got to the river,
- [00:01:27.860]they had to cross it but the river was so agitated.
- [00:01:31.940]So they couldn't make a further step and the queen was
- [00:01:36.710]asked to make a sacrifice.
- [00:01:39.440]She then decided to give all the gold that
- [00:01:44.150]she was having. She gave out The gold, but guess what?
- [00:01:49.130]The gold was rejected she was asked to give
- [00:01:53.570]something that was having a great value.
- [00:01:57.260]That was very dear to her heart. So what does she do?
- [00:02:02.240]She then decided to give Out her son, unfortunately.
- [00:02:07.880]So she gave out her son and the river
- [00:02:12.890]Komoe became very calm
- [00:02:16.550]So she and her people were able to
- [00:02:20.690]cross the river.
- [00:02:23.000]And they got to the other side of the river.
- [00:02:27.710]So when they got there,
- [00:02:30.470]the queen shouted, "baouli"
- [00:02:33.980]meaning the son is gone.
- [00:02:37.310]And she, here, and her people
- [00:02:42.500]Established themselves in that new land and they
- [00:02:47.240]Grew and formed the people today
- [00:02:51.890]Called Baoulé. Coming from "baouli"
- [00:02:56.750]The son is gone.
- [00:02:58.550]This is why my tribe is called Baoulé.
