- [00:00:08.810]hi,
- [00:00:09.830]I'm Mike. Today's story is called Jacob's
- [00:00:14.570]Fish.
- [00:00:15.680]Now this story happens in the deep rural areas of South Africa.
- [00:00:20.210]So as you can see, this is a house. Oh,
- [00:00:23.870]and this is Jacob.
- [00:00:26.270]Now Jacob is sitting with,
- [00:00:29.810]Martha. Jacob is holding his stick
- [00:00:35.510]and the fish. And then this is Martha holding a doll. This is John.
- [00:00:40.520]And this man here, I'm not going to introduce, so this is what happened.
- [00:00:44.960]So it was in school holidays. So Martha and Jacobs were home,
- [00:00:50.450]But they were alone. So
- [00:00:55.880]goes like this, come Martha, says Jacob.
- [00:01:00.770]Let's go fishing. There are many big fish in the river. As you can remember,
- [00:01:05.540]there's a river as well.
- [00:01:09.860]And then, isn't it dangerous?
- [00:01:14.000]What if we fall into the water? I cannot swim, says Martha.
- [00:01:20.000]I can go and fish wherever the river is shallow.
- [00:01:24.530]Don't be scared, says Jacob, obviously trying to persuade Martha.
- [00:01:30.350]Then they walk to the river very soon,
- [00:01:34.520]Jacob hooks a fish, and there's a fish, right? So,
- [00:01:42.320]come Martha help me to get the fish out, says Jacob.
- [00:01:48.170]Then he says, the water is not too deep.
- [00:01:52.340]And then Martha replies, no, I'm afraid.
- [00:01:57.590]I may fall in and drown.
- [00:01:59.180]I promised Betty that I will never go too close to the river.
- [00:02:04.160]Now this is Martha's reply, but who's Betty?
- [00:02:08.090]So Betty is their nanny. So their nanny was not around.
- [00:02:11.390]So they were alone and they were two. Okay, says Jacob,
- [00:02:16.040]I'll pull her out then and then Jacob, starts pulling and pulling and pulling,
- [00:02:20.990]and then suddenly the fish is out.
- [00:02:25.340]And then it lands on the ground, right? Just next to the river.
- [00:02:31.070]And then suddenly a stranger appears next to them,
- [00:02:36.980]behind them. That's the stranger.
- [00:02:40.010]Now the stranger says,
- [00:02:44.180]you two have caught a nice fish. Are you hungry?
- [00:02:48.830]So the stranger is asking,
- [00:02:51.770]there are nice cookies and sweets in my house.
- [00:02:55.070]Come, this stranger invites them.
- [00:02:57.830]Invites who? Jacob and Martha, come.
- [00:03:03.340]Jacob and Martha really love cookies and sweets.
- [00:03:07.390]So we all love cookies and sweets by the way. So,
- [00:03:11.980]and then when they look at the man, the man looks friendly, right?
- [00:03:17.440]So,
- [00:03:18.160]but then Jacob quickly remembers that they shouldn't be talking to strangers.
- [00:03:22.540]So what he does next,
- [00:03:24.600]Jacob quickly grabs Martha's hand and starts pulling it away.
- [00:03:28.300]Come mother let's go home. He says,
- [00:03:32.050]then suddenly they hear some footsteps behind them.
- [00:03:36.580]And guess who appears, John?
- [00:03:40.300]So John was disappointed at them. And then John says,
- [00:03:45.550]why are you guys talking to strangers?
- [00:03:50.050]Haven't I told you not to talk to strangers?
- [00:03:53.080]And then they suddenly remember that, oh,
- [00:03:57.580]that man was a stranger. They didn't know the man.
- [00:04:00.580]So, John is disappointed. John says, come, come back home.
- [00:04:06.100]Let's go. John's obviously disappointed and angry. Now,
- [00:04:11.140]as John was talking to them, guess what happens next?
- [00:04:15.550]The stranger starts, slips away suddenly like
- [00:04:20.500]silently, right? So he's running away,
- [00:04:24.400]but he doesn't want them to see that he's running away.
- [00:04:27.760]Martha and Jacob realized that they actually made a mistake.
- [00:04:33.070]They weren't supposed to be talking to strangers and guess what they do,
- [00:04:37.060]they start apologizing. We're sorry.
- [00:04:40.150]Says Martha and Jacob to John. We won't do it again.
- [00:04:45.100]We'll never go to the river and fish alone. We promise.
- [00:04:49.960]So that's how, uh, Jacob and Martha actually were saved from the day.
- [00:04:55.960]Now. That's how the story ends but I want us to
- [00:04:59.830]Remember something. Who are the characters?
- [00:05:04.180]What did Jacob catch and where did the story
- [00:05:08.770]happen? Try to think about that. And that's how the story ends.
- [00:05:13.960]I hope you enjoy the story and remember,
- [00:05:17.350]never talk to strangers. Bye!
