[00:00:20.627]we're at the Dalton Dozier
[00:00:22.367]farm south of
[00:00:23.724]Douglas Nebraska
[00:00:24.873]in Otoe County
[00:00:26.871]Im going to talk about
[00:00:28.001]the soybean bench marking
[00:00:29.494]project that we
[00:00:30.540]have going this is
[00:00:31.406]the third year of
[00:00:32.304]this project and
[00:00:33.362]what we're looking at
[00:00:34.535]is conventional type
[00:00:36.646]production practices that
[00:00:38.131]people are doing
[00:00:39.090]compare those with
[00:00:40.475]improved management
[00:00:41.918]and the comparison is
[00:00:43.371]improved management is
[00:00:44.464]planted earlier in the year
[00:00:45.749]a lot of research has
[00:00:47.135]shown that when you
[00:00:48.606]plant by May one
[00:00:50.469]you have the potential
[00:00:51.852]for increasing your yeild
[00:00:53.544]also population
[00:00:55.765]improved treatment they
[00:00:59.604]are planted at a lower
[00:01:01.656]population like 120 to
[00:01:03.210]130 thousand while
[00:01:04.894]compared to the traditional
[00:01:08.149]is more like 160
[00:01:10.156]thousand and the
[00:01:11.424]last thing is the
[00:01:12.391]improved treatment
[00:01:16.249]they have a treatment
[00:01:18.970]of a fungicide, insecticide
[00:01:21.227]applied at reproductive
[00:01:22.739]growth stage of
[00:01:23.764]soybean development
[00:01:24.804]and so we're comparing
[00:01:25.970]those and how it affects
[00:01:27.305]the yield and also
[00:01:28.547]how profitability wise
[00:01:29.940]the impact it has
[00:01:32.876]so there's a number of
[00:01:34.429]people participating
[00:01:36.015]back in 2019 a wet
[00:01:37.269]year we had
[00:01:38.025]a couple farms in
[00:01:39.979]Richardson County
[00:01:41.530]there was quite a
[00:01:43.077]difference the
[00:01:44.180]improved method on one
[00:01:45.783]of the trials in Richardson
[00:01:48.808]County had a twelve bushel
[00:01:50.971]yield advantage compared
[00:01:52.952]to the conventional style
[00:01:54.918]and another farm had
[00:01:57.899]about a nine bushel
[00:01:59.078]yield advantage
[00:02:00.013]so it will be interesting
[00:02:01.215]how this turns out
[00:02:02.092]each year is different
[00:02:03.167]if we can show that it is
[00:02:04.710]more profitable to do
[00:02:06.104]these improved methods
[00:02:07.489]that is something we can
[00:02:08.670]bring to the farmers
[00:02:09.845]and that's what we do
[00:02:10.910]with our on farm research
[00:02:12.134]network
