- [00:00:00.220]Welcome to Pierce County.
- [00:00:02.490]Welcome to Pierce County.
- [00:00:04.380]Welcome to Pierce County.
- [00:00:07.420]During this summer, I focused
- [00:00:08.930]on the digital reconnected community project.
- [00:00:12.250]I expected it to end before the end of summer
- [00:00:17.040]but I haven't realized yet how big it was.
- [00:00:20.550]I had chance to get different business owners
- [00:00:22.997]and talk to them and do some videos for them
- [00:00:26.620]and post them on the YouTube channel,
- [00:00:29.554]Pierce County Economic Development.
- [00:00:33.240]I enjoyed learning from the business owners
- [00:00:36.090]here in Pierce County.
- [00:00:37.820]I reached almost to 10 business owners
- [00:00:40.740]and did their videos and it was a very good thing
- [00:00:44.780]during this summer.
- [00:00:46.334]There are various ways that I will use the skills
- [00:00:50.410]I learned here.
- [00:00:51.680]The first thing is through exploring
- [00:00:55.590]different career options.
- [00:00:57.630]This summer helped me to discover that I can go
- [00:01:00.112]to the grad school to learn rural development
- [00:01:04.360]or community development, which is a very good thing
- [00:01:07.160]because it helps my career to be enlarged,
- [00:01:11.285]which is an added value too.
- [00:01:14.375]Additionally, he showed me
- [00:01:16.880]how I can help the communities when I go back to my home.
- [00:01:19.594]The patience and flexibility that was involved
- [00:01:22.660]in this project has helped me to be able to
- [00:01:25.850]adopt it into our present and future.
- [00:01:27.869]Thank you.
- [00:01:28.702](soft music)
- [00:01:30.590]And I had two primary projects this summer.
- [00:01:33.170]One was a tourism campaign
- [00:01:34.810]for Willow Creek State Recreation Area,
- [00:01:37.330]and one was enhancing the social media presence
- [00:01:39.960]of PCED.
- [00:01:41.668]And this work was really important to the community
- [00:01:44.650]because our social media and the avenue we used
- [00:01:46.970]to connect interested people and businesses
- [00:01:50.010]with resources to help grow economic activity
- [00:01:53.350]in Pierce County, and then by increasing tourism
- [00:01:55.629]through the Willow Creek State Recreational Area,
- [00:01:58.145]we're able to get more funding and bring new people,
- [00:02:02.220]new business, and new economic opportunity
- [00:02:04.750]into Pierce County.
- [00:02:06.070]I will use what I've learned from this experience
- [00:02:08.190]as I return to my hometown and get involved
- [00:02:10.370]in our local volunteer organizations,
- [00:02:12.347]and especially become more involved
- [00:02:14.680]in kind of our local government.
- [00:02:16.630]In addition, I learned viable project planning,
- [00:02:19.008]communication and social media skills
- [00:02:21.531]that directly relate to my educational path
- [00:02:24.098]and anticipated career field.
- [00:02:29.920]During the summer, I worked on two projects.
- [00:02:32.360]One was to create an entrepreneurship program
- [00:02:35.160]for youth in 12th to 9th grade.
- [00:02:38.060]And the other was to create a county-wide
- [00:02:40.060]geocaching game.
- [00:02:41.659]For the county-wide geocaching game,
- [00:02:43.770]I see increased tourism and more fun activities
- [00:02:46.580]for people living in this county.
- [00:02:49.010]And all these are important skills to me
- [00:02:51.240]because I've learned new things
- [00:02:53.200]that I can add to my skillset basket.
- [00:02:57.750]Our interns had a big impact on our communities this year.
- [00:03:00.130]As they met with community leaders and local stakeholders
- [00:03:03.200]they learned about the different challenges
- [00:03:04.440]each community faced.
- [00:03:06.310]I could see them making connections
- [00:03:07.800]to their summer projects and their ability
- [00:03:10.340]to think outside the box
- [00:03:12.140]to enhance local efforts has been incredible.
- [00:03:15.420]This opportunity gave me a chance to work
- [00:03:17.380]one-on-one with people in my office.
- [00:03:19.700]Typically, as a one-person office,
- [00:03:21.530]I don't often get the chance to work intimately with others,
- [00:03:24.650]although I do work with a lot of groups and volunteers.
- [00:03:27.416]This was an opportunity to actually work
- [00:03:29.430]with students that were just dedicated
- [00:03:32.330]to my office and our goals.
- [00:03:34.630]This experience allowed me the opportunity
- [00:03:36.506]to utilize what I learned in academy,
- [00:03:38.970]to navigate different personality types
- [00:03:41.000]and work styles in a cohesive and productive way.
- [00:03:44.007](soft music)
