- [00:00:00.580]To talk about the projects that
- [00:00:02.250]we accomplished this summer,
- [00:00:04.700]I like to think of my work as facilitating the work
- [00:00:09.320]that the Rural Prosperity Nebraska educators have.
- [00:00:13.700]So most of my projects were about reviewing and updating
- [00:00:18.840]promotional materials that they produce over time.
- [00:00:23.220]I also identified what are the best practices
- [00:00:26.920]for question design?
- [00:00:29.120]What is the best way to analyze the data, that they obtained
- [00:00:33.190]with those surveys all across the state?
- [00:00:36.360]And I also identified what are the best softwares online
- [00:00:41.500]that we can use to make the process of analyzing
- [00:00:45.450]the data more effective?
- [00:00:48.180]And also we identify some of the best graphs
- [00:00:55.820]and best ways to convey the information,
- [00:00:58.530]so it's accessible for everyone.
- [00:01:06.420]Survey blows my mind because in my own work,
- [00:01:11.100]I'm all about data, I am a scientist.
- [00:01:14.200]So when I was working with this data that came back from
- [00:01:17.680]peers, I was amazed on how this survey
- [00:01:20.910]is empowering because some of the questions asked, oh,
- [00:01:25.160]so what kind of amenities or what kind of businesses do you
- [00:01:28.707]think that will improve your life in peers
- [00:01:31.760]or something like that?
- [00:01:33.300]And for instance, I learned that in peers,
- [00:01:37.816]there is no grocery store.
- [00:01:39.600]So I imagine the power that disinformation can,
- [00:01:49.130]how this can help the community?
- [00:01:50.850]So when we talk about these results of the surveys,
- [00:01:54.080]back to the community, they know that they don't have
- [00:01:57.400]a grocery store and that they need to get one,
- [00:02:00.410]but there are also hair saloons
- [00:02:02.520]that people might understand.
- [00:02:04.510]So I was imagined that if someone in the community are
- [00:02:08.430]thinking, oh, maybe I should start a business.
- [00:02:10.730]Maybe this is the little spark that is missing
- [00:02:14.680]for them to go ahead and get started with.
- [00:02:19.540]The importance of this work,
- [00:02:21.410]the work that Aline accomplished over the summer,
- [00:02:24.250]as part of the Rural Fellows Program,
- [00:02:27.176]as Aline mentioned, she worked alongside myself
- [00:02:30.530]and other RPN educators to help
- [00:02:32.870]take a process that we have in place,
- [00:02:34.480]our Entrepreneurial Community Activation Process that we
- [00:02:37.500]already had in place and helped us refine that process
- [00:02:41.040]and make it more accessible,
- [00:02:43.390]more inclusive as she spoke to making sure that the language
- [00:02:47.690]was accessible for those where English may not be their
- [00:02:50.570]first language, or even some of the jargon
- [00:02:53.710]that we sometimes use in our materials,
- [00:02:57.770]making sure that we were cognizant of that and
- [00:03:01.900]improving that process.
- [00:03:03.700]So she helped us see that through a new lens,
- [00:03:07.220]a new perspective, which is very powerful
- [00:03:09.990]and will be important as community activation process
- [00:03:14.992]is a long standing program, and we'll continue to use that
- [00:03:18.570]as we go forward, and the improvements that Aline made
- [00:03:21.263]to the process and to the reporting
- [00:03:24.020]will be implemented as we work with communities this year
- [00:03:28.560]and in years to come.
- [00:03:32.850]So talking about how I will use this information
- [00:03:38.300]in the future?
- [00:03:39.610]I had some challenges and I worked from home,
- [00:03:42.310]so I definitely learned resilience and discipline.
- [00:03:47.230]I learned how to organize big projects, how to keep focused.
- [00:03:52.530]I definitely learned some leadership skills by observing
- [00:03:56.560]Jordan and her team.
- [00:03:59.880]I learned how to work effective in teams during academy
- [00:04:05.940]and pre academy.
- [00:04:07.500]So I'll definitely use all of those skills starting day one,
- [00:04:11.630]when I come back to the lab and also in my field career.
