- [00:00:00.078](bright upbeat music)
- [00:00:07.908]The ultimate goal is to reduce violence.
- [00:00:09.570]And we've been really fortunate enough
- [00:00:11.610]to document in our research
- [00:00:13.010]that we have found some key strategies
- [00:00:14.870]that have led to reductions in violence,
- [00:00:17.200]particularly among adolescents.
- [00:00:19.350]And then in addition to that,
- [00:00:21.350]we've done research to look at what helps
- [00:00:23.340]to support survivors to reduce things like depression
- [00:00:26.920]and post-traumatic stress disorder.
- [00:00:28.610]So I think really the most exciting thing about our work
- [00:00:31.700]is that we're seeing that we're moving the needle
- [00:00:33.380]on a number of these outcomes.
- [00:00:35.277](bright upbeat music)
- [00:00:39.370]I think the most exciting part
- [00:00:41.290]is waking up every day and working with youth,
- [00:00:44.180]working with students, working with community partners,
- [00:00:46.800]working with communities to identify strategies
- [00:00:49.570]that we know work, you know,
- [00:00:50.840]and really working alongside individuals
- [00:00:53.370]to see real impactful change happening in their communities.
- [00:00:56.480]I don't think that there's really anything
- [00:00:58.670]that could be more exciting about your work
- [00:01:00.740]than seeing the real world impact
- [00:01:02.370]it has on the lives of children and youth.
- [00:01:04.888](bright upbeat music)
- [00:01:09.129]We know from research that everyone has a role to play.
- [00:01:11.850]It can be something as simple
- [00:01:13.050]as standing up to a sexist comment.
- [00:01:15.320]It can be saying to a survivor,
- [00:01:17.007]"I'm here for you, how can I help you?"
- [00:01:19.150]Even things like a simple tweet
- [00:01:20.760]or a Facebook post about how violence is unacceptable
- [00:01:24.000]and that we should all believe
- [00:01:24.980]survivors can be really important
- [00:01:27.080]in changing social norms to be intolerant of violence.
- [00:01:30.527](upbeat music) (drums boom)
