- [00:00:03.820]Hi, I'm Richard Moberly, dean at the College of Law.
- [00:00:07.420]As we prepare for the fall semester,
- [00:00:09.420]I want to take a minute and share our expectations with you
- [00:00:12.740]regarding COVID-19 precautions.
- [00:00:15.420]This is a constantly changing situation,
- [00:00:18.000]so this message contains our current policies.
- [00:00:21.430]If this information changes,
- [00:00:22.730]we will let you know as soon as possible.
- [00:00:25.780]While we plan to have students back in our building
- [00:00:28.260]and in our classrooms,
- [00:00:29.630]we know that COVID-19 still exists in our community.
- [00:00:33.520]To help monitor and prevent the spread of COVID-19,
- [00:00:36.480]we will be requiring weekly saliva-based testing
- [00:00:39.870]for all unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff.
- [00:00:44.480]If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19,
- [00:00:47.770]you can submit your vaccination information
- [00:00:50.520]to the voluntary COVID-19 vaccine registry
- [00:00:54.060]to receive an exemption from campus testing.
- [00:00:57.010]More information about required testing
- [00:00:59.420]and the voluntary registry is available at covid19.unl.edu.
- [00:01:05.040]There are a variety of reasons
- [00:01:06.480]that I encourage you to get vaccinated,
- [00:01:08.470]but one is of particular importance to you.
- [00:01:11.870]Missing several class sessions due to illness or quarantine
- [00:01:15.310]could have catastrophic effects
- [00:01:17.070]on your success as a law student.
- [00:01:19.860]Of course, life happens,
- [00:01:21.010]and we will help you adjust to whatever comes your way,
- [00:01:23.930]but it is in your best interest
- [00:01:25.580]to protect yourself as best you can.
- [00:01:28.060]The overwhelming scientific evidence
- [00:01:30.100]is that the vaccine protects you from COVID-19
- [00:01:32.840]better than anything else,
- [00:01:34.600]and if you do happen to get the virus,
- [00:01:37.260]the vaccine will likely reduce the severity of your illness.
- [00:01:41.070]It goes without saying perhaps
- [00:01:42.410]that getting the vaccine will also protect our community
- [00:01:45.300]and those who have been unable to get vaccinated yet,
- [00:01:48.350]such as children under 12.
- [00:01:51.370]I know many of you will be joining us from outside Nebraska
- [00:01:54.300]and may not have access to the COVID-19 vaccine just yet.
- [00:01:58.490]Nebraska has opened vaccine eligibility
- [00:02:00.750]to everyone over 12 years of age,
- [00:02:03.070]so once you arrive, you can set up an appointment
- [00:02:05.490]at dozens of locations around town.
- [00:02:08.030]I look forward to seeing you all soon.
