- [00:00:04.410]So I went ahead, and grabbed my mom here
- [00:00:06.300]to help get the parent perspective.
- [00:00:08.200]So, if you want to introduce yourself.
- [00:00:09.540]Hey, I'm Pam.
- [00:00:11.230]So, I'm the youngest of six.
- [00:00:13.130]And so, I feel like my mom is a pretty big expert
- [00:00:16.340]on the whole move-in process.
- [00:00:18.660]So, we're just gonna share some advice
- [00:00:20.190]about what to bring and what not to bring.
- [00:00:22.650]I know in moving kids into a dorm situation or even,
- [00:00:27.250]you know, their first living situation,
- [00:00:28.950]we found that it was really helpful
- [00:00:31.080]to label everything and make sure the lids are secure.
- [00:00:34.680]Typically there's a lot of help to move them in,
- [00:00:36.660]which is awesome.
- [00:00:37.970]But you want to label everything,
- [00:00:40.170]that chair, whatever,
- [00:00:41.910]just so that it gets to their room and you know where it is.
- [00:00:45.543]So, two big things that I was happy that I brought
- [00:00:48.500]was a doorstop, and I had a small steamer.
- [00:00:52.250]So, the doorstop was just super helpful
- [00:00:53.880]in keeping my door open to meet new people.
- [00:00:56.530]And then a steamer,
- [00:00:58.050]I had so much of my clothes folded in drawers
- [00:01:00.930]that they all got pretty wrinkly.
- [00:01:02.600]And so, just having a steamer, a super small one,
- [00:01:05.290]I used it all the time.
- [00:01:06.900]I don't know if a lot of people would, but I used mine.
- [00:01:08.903]Yeah, you did.
- [00:01:09.736]And I was really happy that I brought it.
- [00:01:11.050]And I know it seems like our kids
- [00:01:13.340]always liked to have that lofted bed,
- [00:01:15.220]so that they could have that space underneath
- [00:01:17.080]for a chair, or something.
- [00:01:18.870]And so we found,
- [00:01:20.240]I kind of discovered this with Natalie,
- [00:01:22.410]zip-tying a basket to their bed.
- [00:01:25.450]And usually, you can make that happen,
- [00:01:27.120]but that's a great place to put a book, a bottle of water,
- [00:01:29.450]their phone, and maybe, you can even put
- [00:01:31.580]a power strip in there, or something,
- [00:01:33.720]so they can charge stuff up.
- [00:01:35.370]Yeah. Just a small basket from Walmart
- [00:01:37.630]is so much cheaper than--
- [00:01:38.980]Yeah, yeah.
- [00:01:39.813]Getting something that's made for that,
- [00:01:41.240]because it's super easy.
- [00:01:42.150]Yeah, yeah.
- [00:01:43.030]And then, also something that you don't want to forget,
- [00:01:44.860]is things to clean your dishes,
- [00:01:47.020]because I know my floor used the same thing.
- [00:01:50.720]There was a scrubber in there and, but, okay,
- [00:01:53.930]so, a scrubber that I found that I really needed
- [00:01:56.390]was a bottle scrubber.
- [00:01:58.130]I got one for my birthday because,
- [00:02:00.090]when I moved out of my dorm,
- [00:02:01.560]my cups and my protein shake bottle were kind of gross,
- [00:02:05.490]because I couldn't get anything in
- [00:02:07.000]to really clean them.
- [00:02:08.370]So, I would definitely recommend
- [00:02:09.560]getting good cleaning and scrubbers for your dishes.
- [00:02:14.430]And then, we also, some of the dorm rooms
- [00:02:17.270]don't have a door on their closet.
- [00:02:19.520]So, some kids like to hang a tension shower rod,
- [00:02:22.170]and a shower curtain,
- [00:02:23.080]just to kind of spruce it up, if you will.
- [00:02:25.390]And then Natalie found really helpful,
- [00:02:28.370]the laundry basket that's on wheels with the handle.
- [00:02:31.090]It's almost like a suitcase,
- [00:02:32.690]and you can use it to bring stuff home.
- [00:02:34.580]You can use it to go down and do your laundry,
- [00:02:37.650]and so forth.
- [00:02:38.590]Yes. So. those are some things to bring
- [00:02:41.610]to make your freshman year just a little bit easier.
