- [00:00:01.590]This was actually sold off during the homesteading era.
- [00:00:04.170]Shelby Warrick worked with the Nebraska Game and Parks
- [00:00:07.440]Commission on a cultural landscape inventory project for
- [00:00:11.310]Fort Kearny State Historical Park. That work is informing a
- [00:00:15.810]new master plan to make best use of the park, which was
- [00:00:19.860]originally built in 1848 as a fort to protect travelers on
- [00:00:23.910]the Oregon-California trail,
- [00:00:25.930]Because we were able to work with a student on a real-world
- [00:00:28.960]project and give the student some real experience and kind
- [00:00:33.310]of a behind the scenes look at our park planning process and
- [00:00:36.490]kind of the details of what goes into that process. And then
- [00:00:39.700]on the flip side of that it was tremendously helpful for us
- [00:00:42.520]because now we have a digital archive and annotated
- [00:00:45.670]bibliography of this information of historical records for
- [00:00:49.060]this site.
- [00:00:49.990]I'm really learning a lot about how to gain a community
- [00:00:53.830]consensus about the project and using that to aid in the
- [00:00:57.070]master planning process. And I'm also learning about how
- [00:01:00.700]collecting historic data informs the design process.
- [00:01:04.259]This fall, our Collaborate Studio will continue the
- [00:01:07.649]partnership with Game and Parks, along with BVH Architectur
- [00:01:11.459], and University of Nebraska at Kearney's History Departm
- [00:01:15.149]nt. The goal is to develop new programs, spaces and display
- [00:01:19.739]to entice new visitors to Fort Kearny State Historical P
