[00:00:07.020]I'm currently a junior Social Science
[00:00:08.828]Education major with a triple minor in
[00:00:10.890]Music, History, and
[00:00:12.186]Human Rights and Humanity Affairs
[00:00:14.000]here at the College of
[00:00:14.898]Education and Human Sciences.
[00:00:16.662]And my name is Viangri and I'm a
[00:00:18.256]Child, Youth and Family Studies major in the
[00:00:19.905]College of Education and Human Sciences.
[00:00:22.281]You might recognize me as your NSE leader
[00:00:23.748]from the summer as an Orientation Leader.
[00:00:25.910]We hope that seeing a familiar face makes
[00:00:27.918]you feel welcome and excited to join
[00:00:29.750]our CEHS family, this fall.
[00:00:32.330]You are joining a community whose job
[00:00:33.918]is to enhance the lives of individuals,
[00:00:36.380]families, schools, and communities
[00:00:38.570]and to strengthen the
[00:00:39.349]relationships among them.

[00:00:42.346]emotions as you prepare to embark on
[00:00:43.874]this new adventure.
[00:00:44.906]When I started college,
[00:00:45.940]I was very excited, but
[00:00:47.287]I was also a little intimidated.
[00:00:49.040]Transitioning to college is
[00:00:50.272]very different for everyone,
[00:00:51.890]but we at CEHS are here to help you.
[00:00:54.800]As a community,
[00:00:55.755]we also value inclusive excellence.
[00:00:57.680]We are often called the people's college
[00:00:59.243]because we pride ourselves on people.
[00:01:01.010]From our students,
[00:01:01.834]to our faculty and staff,
[00:01:03.281]together we foster a positive environment
[00:01:05.260]that will last past graduation.

[00:01:40.151]Peer Mentorship program.
[00:01:41.420]I've learned how to motivate students
[00:01:42.877]all the way from eighth grade to high school,
[00:01:44.898]so that they can graduate
[00:01:45.870]and attain higher education.
[00:01:47.630]Being a part of NCPA is what
[00:01:49.202]motivated me to choose the
[00:01:50.851]Child, Youth and Family Studies major
[00:01:52.370]because I want to work with
[00:01:53.161]families and students alike
[00:01:55.084]Being a part of ASUN student government,
[00:01:57.463]UNL choirs, OASIS programs
[00:01:59.390]and even working as a resident assistant,
[00:02:01.580]I have learned about the importance of
[00:02:03.212]diversity and inclusion of all gender
[00:02:05.030]identifications, sexualities,
[00:02:07.280]as well as the importance of having real
[00:02:09.501]and genuine connections with people to
[00:02:11.150]foster incredible relationships.
[00:02:13.739]And been able to relate it to my future career
[00:02:15.767]career goals as well.
[00:02:17.144]I chose my major because
[00:02:18.434]I am passionate about change.
[00:02:20.300]The focus for my major is
[00:02:21.969]human rights and humanity affairs,
[00:02:23.720]as well as diversity and inclusion.
[00:02:25.855]As a member of the LGBT community
[00:02:27.855]and an African-American male.
[00:02:29.120]I have firsthand experience of
[00:02:30.545]being in the minority category.
[00:02:32.360]This drives me every day to
[00:02:33.730]fight not only for minorities,
[00:02:34.940]but to ensure everyone has equal
[00:02:36.462]opportunities to succeed.
[00:02:38.520]Growing up, I lived in a nearly
[00:02:39.777]completely white family in a
[00:02:41.369]small town called Kearney, Nebraska.
[00:02:43.795]This was very difficult
[00:02:44.809]for me to help find my identity.
[00:02:46.670]I did not truly realize until about high
[00:02:48.639]school and even till college that finding
[00:02:50.390]my identity might take some time.
[00:02:52.586]Through the help of the College of
[00:02:53.721]Education and Human Sciences.
[00:02:55.820]I realized that the thing
[00:02:56.803]I was so passionate about
[00:02:57.951]was ensuring that others did
[00:02:59.230]not feel lonely and helpless
[00:03:00.818]as much as I did growing up.
[00:03:02.730]Here at UNL,
[00:03:03.640]I will use my major not only
[00:03:05.187]to study and learn from others,
[00:03:06.940]but to immerse myself every day,
[00:03:08.773]even past graduation.
[00:03:10.620]The college faculty, staff,
[00:03:12.030]and other students like us are here to
[00:03:13.586]support you on your college experience.
