- [00:00:07.710]commonly used herbicides
- [00:00:09.410]in a corn products
- [00:00:11.190]in fields in Nebraska,
- [00:00:12.610]as well as in several states
- [00:00:14.180]in the Midwestern United States.
- [00:00:15.870]And because of the
- [00:00:17.960]more use of Atrazine,
- [00:00:20.350]we have seen some issues with a
- [00:00:22.680]groundwater contamination
- [00:00:24.670]in Nebraska, as well as in some other states.
- [00:00:26.870]So maybe in future,
- [00:00:28.230]there might be some more
- [00:00:29.280]restriction on use of Atrazine.
- [00:00:31.520]So the overall objective
- [00:00:32.820]of this project was to find out
- [00:00:36.220]herbicide alternatives
- [00:00:37.470]that can be applied pre-emergence
- [00:00:39.180]in corn and that should be without Atrazine.
- [00:00:42.020]So, we greatly appreciate
- [00:00:44.770]Nebraska Environmental Trust
- [00:00:46.220]to support this project
- [00:00:47.980]where we have evaluated
- [00:00:49.160]at least 17 different
- [00:00:51.630]pre-emergence herbicides
- [00:00:53.140]applied at planting.
- [00:00:54.750]So this corn was planted on May 5th,
- [00:00:58.880]and then pre-emergence herbicides
- [00:01:01.050]were applied on May 10th,
- [00:01:03.570]and we have not applied any post-emergence
- [00:01:05.820]herbicide in this project.
- [00:01:07.180]And so far we have seen at least
- [00:01:09.060]three to four herbicide programs
- [00:01:11.160]have provided
- [00:01:12.600]very effective weed control,
- [00:01:14.070]and they were all without Atrazine.
- [00:01:16.010]So that was the main
- [00:01:17.560]goal of this project.
- [00:01:19.218][Amit] In this plot,
- [00:01:20.480]Atrazine was applied by itself
- [00:01:22.470]at high rate of 2.2 quarts per acre,
- [00:01:25.940]pre-emergence
- [00:01:27.421]which has provided somewhat
- [00:01:29.210]activity initially for a week or so.
- [00:01:31.260]But then, Palmar Amaranth,
- [00:01:33.540]for example here
- [00:01:34.540]are really big and growing up.
- [00:01:37.090]So Atrazine by itself
- [00:01:38.700]is now no more long providing
- [00:01:40.300]very effective control.
- [00:01:42.320]So by itself,
- [00:01:44.450]growers are not considering to use it.
- [00:01:46.260]However,
- [00:01:47.093]Atrazine is still very good
- [00:01:49.080]tank mix partner in number of
- [00:01:50.550]the pre emergence,
- [00:01:51.390]as well as post emergence herbicides.
- [00:01:54.130]And this was just a
- [00:01:56.330]example of what will happen if you apply
- [00:01:58.620]only Atrazine by itself,
- [00:02:00.800]pre-emergence.
- [00:02:02.729][Amit] Acuron Flexi is
- [00:02:05.580]Acuron without Atrazine.
- [00:02:07.040]So, this Acuron Flexi herbicide
- [00:02:09.910]has provided
- [00:02:11.740]very effective
- [00:02:12.730]weed control,
- [00:02:13.770]and it has no Atrazine.
- [00:02:15.180]There are three other herbicide
- [00:02:16.420]active ingredients are there
- [00:02:18.050]in this pre-mix herbicide.
- [00:02:21.070]So we have some Atrazine
- [00:02:23.260]alternatives that can be considered
- [00:02:25.300]pre-emergence and that includes
- [00:02:27.751]Acuron Flexi is one of them.
- [00:02:30.538][ Amit ]In this plot,
- [00:02:31.580]Resicore was applied at two and a half
- [00:02:33.470]quarts per acre.
- [00:02:35.050]Which is also a very good
- [00:02:36.870]pre-emergence herbicide
- [00:02:38.080]with three different modes of action
- [00:02:40.430]without Atrazine.
- [00:02:41.420]So it has also provided
- [00:02:42.690]very effective residual control of
- [00:02:45.950]majority of the weeds,
- [00:02:47.090]particularly Palmar Amaranth
- [00:02:48.650]that we do have very common
- [00:02:49.900]here in this plot.
- [00:02:51.210]So, Resticore, Acuron Flexi,
- [00:02:54.140]Harness Max is also one of them
- [00:02:55.910]which has provided
- [00:02:56.760]very effective control of
- [00:02:59.160]majority of the weeds.
- [00:03:00.700]So we do have some
- [00:03:02.400]pre-emergence herbicides options
- [00:03:03.860]without Atrazine
- [00:03:04.780]that can provide very effective control.
- [00:03:07.440]And most of the growers,
- [00:03:08.550]they do consider
- [00:03:09.490]applying post-emergence herbicide
- [00:03:11.720]without Atrazine
- [00:03:13.130]that we can use.
- [00:03:14.050]But, we will wanted to see
- [00:03:16.310]the longest residual activity
- [00:03:18.100]from which program.
- [00:03:19.130]Therefore, we have not applied
- [00:03:20.370]any post-emergence herbicide
- [00:03:21.690]in this project.
- [00:03:23.170]However, there are some
- [00:03:24.960]herbicides that you can easily apply,
- [00:03:27.070]which are Atrazine alternatives
- [00:03:28.740]and can be considered
- [00:03:30.990]for pre-emergence
- [00:03:31.823]as well as post-emergence
- [00:03:32.990]herbicide activity.
