- [00:00:04.930]I am an Associate Professor of Practice in the
- [00:00:08.282]Educational Administration Department
- [00:00:10.352]on the P12 administrative side.
- [00:00:13.208]I joined
- [00:00:14.140]Educational Administration in 2020.
- [00:00:17.479]Prior to that,
- [00:00:18.370]I had been in the
- [00:00:19.954]Omaha Public Schools
- [00:00:21.250]for 20 years working as a
- [00:00:23.628]principal supervisor, principal,
- [00:00:25.888]assistant principal, teacher,
- [00:00:28.244]paraprofessional.
- [00:00:29.239]And even before that in
- [00:00:30.460]before and after school daycare.
- [00:00:33.424]In the time since I've joined the college,
- [00:00:35.140]I've developed a
- [00:00:36.706]podcast on educational leadership,
- [00:00:38.831]and I've also had an opportunity
- [00:00:40.865]to increase the experiences with
- [00:00:44.588]developing leadership programs
- [00:00:46.723]for districts and
- [00:00:47.890]organizations across the state
- [00:00:49.536]partnerships with organizations like the
- [00:00:52.107]Nebraska Council of School Administrators,
- [00:00:54.220]and continuing to look for
- [00:00:57.161]more opportunities to provide
- [00:00:59.140]support for district leaders, principals,
- [00:01:02.054]and aspiring leaders
- [00:01:03.188]across the state of Nebraska.
- [00:01:04.613]Successful students are those
- [00:01:05.710]that are passionate, that are engaged,
- [00:01:07.456]that are dedicated to the work.
- [00:01:08.860]They take ownership
- [00:01:10.470]of their own learning.
- [00:01:12.145]And they reach out and
- [00:01:13.513]engage with the professors.
- [00:01:14.920]An online environment is different than
- [00:01:17.129]what many of them had have experienced
- [00:01:19.060]or participate in, in their daily lives.
- [00:01:21.599]And it takes that ownership.
- [00:01:23.320]It takes that dedication
- [00:01:24.892]to get the most out of it.
- [00:01:26.170]And those that do
- [00:01:27.466]those that truly commit
- [00:01:28.875]find the program to be life-changing.
- [00:01:31.076]Not only in their own personal lives
- [00:01:33.977]as teachers and educators,
- [00:01:35.620]but in the trajectory, it takes
- [00:01:37.705]them on as professionals.
- [00:01:39.970]What I enjoy about working
- [00:01:41.138]in this department is the people.
- [00:01:43.612]My colleagues,
- [00:01:44.680]professors of practice,
- [00:01:46.023]and research professors
- [00:01:47.222]all have experience in schools
- [00:01:49.090]and in teaching.
- [00:01:50.860]They bring a truly diverse set of
- [00:01:55.420]experiences and perspectives to the work.
- [00:01:57.841]We all teach overlapping classes,
- [00:02:00.040]so we have an opportunity to learn from
- [00:02:01.603]one another to find best practices and
- [00:02:04.356]truly make the experience one that
- [00:02:06.614]prepares future leaders for the roles that
- [00:02:09.400]they hope to take.
