- [00:00:05.330]It's interesting because in the year or two
- [00:00:07.100]leading up to the pandemic,
- [00:00:10.270]we as a clinical psychology training program
- [00:00:13.610]and in the psychological consultation center,
- [00:00:16.000]had started to do some tele-health.
- [00:00:18.690]And it allows us to serve people outside of Lincoln,
- [00:00:23.430]tele mental health services and such
- [00:00:25.100]and we were just kind of getting into it.
- [00:00:26.810]And then the pandemic hits
- [00:00:28.130]and suddenly everybody needs to do telehealth.
- [00:00:31.422]I'm actually really grateful that I've had
- [00:00:34.390]the training opportunity to do tele-health now
- [00:00:36.580]because my clinical interests are with LGBT community,
- [00:00:39.650]specifically with transgender communities.
- [00:00:42.020]And I do know that for many transgender individuals
- [00:00:45.560]and people who identify as gender diverse, it can be hard,
- [00:00:48.930]especially in a rural area, to find a provider
- [00:00:51.210]who is able to provide good care.
- [00:00:58.670]In-person clinical work has a huge benefit
- [00:01:00.680]of just reading body language, reading expressions
- [00:01:04.010]and some of those nuances of communication
- [00:01:06.200]and speech that are lost.
- [00:01:07.560]I do think though, that telehealth
- [00:01:09.710]has an interesting possibility to allow you
- [00:01:12.360]to look into the person life as they are in that moment.
- [00:01:17.250]So you get to see them in their home,
- [00:01:19.710]more of like their natural environment almost.
- [00:01:22.530]And I think it opens up really interesting possibilities.
- [00:01:25.460]Like, you know, if you have a client and you're working
- [00:01:28.040]with them, if they wanna show you something
- [00:01:29.900]they can grab it and show it to you,
- [00:01:31.290]and it's right there in their home.
- [00:01:32.950]And I think also some clients tend to be more comfortable
- [00:01:36.090]in like their home, in their natural environment
- [00:01:38.290]where they feel most comfortable.
- [00:01:39.540]And I think it adds a really interesting dynamic
- [00:01:41.670]to the clinical experience.
- [00:01:43.850]I think we've done a good job,
- [00:01:45.560]kind of helping our therapists continue to move forward
- [00:01:48.640]in their training to be psychotherapists.
- [00:01:50.550]But I have talked to them about, I'm eager for the point
- [00:01:53.980]at which they can see people in person as well,
- [00:01:56.770]but we're gonna have a lot, the new generation
- [00:01:59.050]of therapists, all of whom who've had this experience
- [00:02:01.270]and will be able to use it,
- [00:02:02.380]which I think will provide services
- [00:02:04.020]for a lot of people who couldn't access it before.
