- [00:00:00.747](gentle upbeat music)
- [00:00:15.180]Hi, my name is Lucy Peterkin
- [00:00:17.350]and I am a junior international business major
- [00:00:19.450]from Omaha, Nebraska.
- [00:00:21.300]This past year, I worked as a resident assistant
- [00:00:23.930]in Abel Residence Hall.
- [00:00:25.760]I'm here to talk to you about my experience
- [00:00:27.420]as a resident assistant
- [00:00:28.750]and how your RA can assist you
- [00:00:30.360]as a student living on campus.
- [00:00:32.610]But before we go any further, let's talk about what an RA is
- [00:00:36.070]and what they can do to help you.
- [00:00:38.200]Resident assistants
- [00:00:39.120]on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus
- [00:00:41.220]are second through fourth-year students
- [00:00:42.870]from across all academic disciplines and colleges
- [00:00:45.430]who live with and assist students in the residence halls.
- [00:00:48.538]RAs know what it is like to be a student
- [00:00:50.270]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
- [00:00:52.020]because we are UNL students.
- [00:00:54.840]Chances are your RA may have taken
- [00:00:56.950]that dreaded class you're struggling in
- [00:00:58.840]or they know someone who did.
- [00:01:00.840]Maybe they will connect you to an RSO
- [00:01:02.460]that fits your interests
- [00:01:03.480]or introduce you to new friends around the hall.
- [00:01:06.180]Your RA is a great resource for academic, extracurricular,
- [00:01:09.790]and social questions.
- [00:01:11.520]Talking to your RA is a great first step
- [00:01:13.500]to get keyed in on what exciting opportunities, events,
- [00:01:16.460]and free resources are available to you as a Husker.
- [00:01:20.320]Resident assistants are tasked with fostering community,
- [00:01:23.360]creating floor programming, sharing resources,
- [00:01:26.190]and enforcing Nebraska housing policies.
- [00:01:28.710]If there's one thing I want you
- [00:01:29.760]to take away from this video,
- [00:01:31.240]it's that your RA is in the residence hall to help you.
- [00:01:34.780]During my time as a resident assistant,
- [00:01:36.740]the part of the job I enjoyed most was meeting
- [00:01:38.610]with residents one-on-one to hear about their semester
- [00:01:41.090]and answer their questions.
- [00:01:42.890]It was so exciting to see my residents grow
- [00:01:44.800]from the beginning to the end of the school year.
- [00:01:47.130]University of Nebraska-Lincoln RAs want to see you succeed
- [00:01:50.360]and we are happy to provide assistance along the way.
- [00:01:52.893](upbeat music)
