- [00:00:00.310]Hi everyone!
- [00:00:02.283]So today I'm going to tell you about
- [00:00:04.525]a few of the ways that we support
- [00:00:06.463]students' financial well-being
- [00:00:08.316]on our campus.
- [00:00:10.096]So I'm Megan Patel.
- [00:00:11.580]I'm in Big Red Resilience & Well-being.
- [00:00:13.597]And I coordinate Student Money Management
- [00:00:15.672]and Husker Pantry.
- [00:00:17.000]So I'll be telling you about
- [00:00:19.105]those programs today and the services
- [00:00:20.883]that we offer for students.
- [00:00:22.868]So, in Student Money Management,
- [00:00:24.828]our goal is to help students
- [00:00:26.645]to learn how to manage their finances
- [00:00:28.801]and to make good money
- [00:00:30.487]decision on their own.
- [00:00:31.797]So we offer financial education
- [00:00:33.354]and money coaching.
- [00:00:34.733]And we also have workshops,
- [00:00:36.754]presentations, and tons of resources
- [00:00:39.249]for students to use as well.
- [00:00:41.847]But our main service that we wanted to
- [00:00:44.733]talk about today is Money Coaching.
- [00:00:46.892]So this is an opportunity for a student
- [00:00:49.012]to meet with either a staff Money Coach
- [00:00:51.297]or a peer Money Coach.
- [00:00:53.211]And talk about any money questions
- [00:00:55.210]that they might have.
- [00:00:56.733]And it's always free.
- [00:00:58.091]And they can schedule as many appointments
- [00:01:00.096]as they would like with their Money Coach.
- [00:01:02.181]or with multiple Money Coaches.
- [00:01:03.943]So totally available for them to
- [00:01:05.656]work through some things that they are
- [00:01:07.540]trying to figure out or also at different
- [00:01:09.513]stages of their financial life
- [00:01:11.129]to check in and get a little
- [00:01:12.639]assistance as well.
- [00:01:13.966]And students can schedule appointments
- [00:01:16.099]through MyPlan. So that's a
- [00:01:18.087]scheduling program that we have that
- [00:01:20.027]students will get very familiar with.
- [00:01:22.039]And so they can choose their Money Coach
- [00:01:24.158]they can read their bios, and fit who
- [00:01:26.308]would work with them best.
- [00:01:28.186]And you can also see bios of Money Coaches
- [00:01:30.896]on our website
- [00:01:32.252]resilience.unl.edu as well
- [00:01:34.942]So students can schedule
- [00:01:36.743]with a Money Coach
- [00:01:38.213]to talk about any of these topics
- [00:01:40.490]or maybe multiple topics.
- [00:01:42.443]So of course, budgeting is a big one
- [00:01:44.626]um, how to save money is another big one.
- [00:01:47.625]And also just talking through credit,
- [00:01:49.848]you know, what is credit?
- [00:01:51.526]How do credit cards work?
- [00:01:53.166]How can they be responsible with credit?
- [00:01:55.561]And also, some larger life decisions
- [00:01:58.140]like bigger purchases or maybe thinking
- [00:02:01.416]through investing.
- [00:02:03.002]Whether that's a good choice
- [00:02:04.722]for the student. Even what is investing?
- [00:02:06.998]So these are all different
- [00:02:08.845]educational topics
- [00:02:10.085]that we can help your student with
- [00:02:12.239]through Money Coaching.
- [00:02:13.947]And then a little bit about
- [00:02:15.547]Husker Pantry as well.
- [00:02:17.277]We offer free food, hygiene items,
- [00:02:19.339]and school supplies to
- [00:02:20.985]students who are in need
- [00:02:22.245]of a little bit of extra help.
- [00:02:23.915]So we can also help the student connect
- [00:02:26.870]with any other campus
- [00:02:28.311]and community resources,
- [00:02:29.611]if they're struggling with
- [00:02:30.945]food and shelter insecurity.
- [00:02:32.390]And the pantry is very
- [00:02:33.660]easy to use.
- [00:02:34.446]We're located in the Health Center
- [00:02:36.123]in room 123, on the first floor.
- [00:02:37.741]And all a student needs to do is come
- [00:02:39.819]during our open shopping hours.
- [00:02:41.439]They have to bring their Ncard, which is
- [00:02:43.387]their student ID. That way we know that
- [00:02:45.293]they're a current student.
- [00:02:46.733]And then they can
- [00:02:47.733]shop and take the food and hygiene items
- [00:02:49.688]that they need that day.
- [00:02:51.271]So more information about our hours
- [00:02:53.522]and the pantry is on our website at
- [00:02:55.490]pantry.unl.edu
- [00:02:57.225]So please reach out to us at
- [00:02:58.880]Big Red Resilience & Well-being or at
- [00:03:01.050]the pantry if you'd like to learn more
- [00:03:03.203]or if you have questions or if you want to
- [00:03:05.614]get connected with our services.
