- [00:00:05.040]My name is Ross Barron.
- [00:00:06.420]I graduated in May of 2019.
- [00:00:09.870]I lead the Bridge Design Team
- [00:00:12.050]for the Nebraska region here at Olson's.
- [00:00:14.230]I would say that in my career,
- [00:00:16.520]I found that my education instructional engineering
- [00:00:20.120]was lacking for what I actually needed.
- [00:00:21.830]That there was some skillsets
- [00:00:23.460]that I really needed to focus on
- [00:00:25.700]and learn a little bit more about.
- [00:00:27.470]I went out and started looking
- [00:00:28.500]on whether I wanted to get an MBA.
- [00:00:30.560]And then I stumbled on the MEM program
- [00:00:33.160]and it seemed to offer the skills
- [00:00:35.000]that I thought were valuable for my career.
- [00:00:37.610]I like having access to local professors,
- [00:00:39.890]even though it's an online program.
- [00:00:41.300]I really wanted to make some connections with people.
- [00:00:44.160]I found that that was something I missed in my undergrad.
- [00:00:46.420]That looking back was very, very valuable.
- [00:00:48.520]So I wanted something local
- [00:00:50.680]yet provided me the freedom to study at my own pace.
- [00:00:54.610]I think cost played a key role as well.
- [00:00:56.710]Again, the MBA program was just a little bigger
- [00:00:59.650]and I needed something smaller and more focused
- [00:01:02.010]and I wanted to get through it quickly.
- [00:01:04.050]And so it was an economical decision.
- [00:01:07.040]It was cheaper than the MBA program.
- [00:01:08.620]And I liked that and I was able to get through it quicker.
- [00:01:11.290]So for those considering it,
- [00:01:12.600]I would say get some context.
- [00:01:14.600]Go out and expand your career a little bit.
- [00:01:17.420]And then you can always come back,
- [00:01:18.960]particularly with the online environment.
- [00:01:21.350]For those who are actively applying to the program,
- [00:01:23.640]I would say take it seriously.
- [00:01:25.470]It's going to be a little uncomfortable,
- [00:01:27.260]but jump in and really listen
- [00:01:30.090]to what the professors are providing.
- [00:01:31.450]Because they know what they're talking about.
- [00:01:34.176](gentle music)
