- [00:00:01.920]Hello, my name is Connie Boehm,
- [00:00:03.640]I'm the director of Big Red Resilience and Well-Being.
- [00:00:06.600]And I'm thrilled to be with you today
- [00:00:08.170]to tell you a little bit about what we do
- [00:00:10.240]in Big Red Resilience and Well-Being.
- [00:00:13.630]We were created by Student Affairs in 2018
- [00:00:17.580]to really help support and promote
- [00:00:20.020]emotional well-being on our campus.
- [00:00:22.880]And we do this by really looking
- [00:00:24.820]at nine dimensions of well-being
- [00:00:27.620]and promoting that to our students.
- [00:00:29.770]And we talk with students about how you can make a change
- [00:00:32.300]in one dimension of well-being,
- [00:00:34.450]and that can really impact your whole self,
- [00:00:37.170]because the dimensions of well-being are so interconnected.
- [00:00:42.780]We live by three values.
- [00:00:44.650]We value being inclusive,
- [00:00:47.610]being student-focused and being innovative.
- [00:00:50.930]This is a picture of our student volunteers
- [00:00:54.130]that help us do everything that we do.
- [00:00:56.660]They are truly amazing.
- [00:00:58.670]In this picture, they're getting trained
- [00:01:00.600]in Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training.
- [00:01:05.350]Some of the innovative ways that we work with students
- [00:01:09.050]are pop-up coaching.
- [00:01:11.050]We will have these blow up chairs in academic buildings,
- [00:01:14.920]all across campus,
- [00:01:16.220]as well as at some of our outreach events.
- [00:01:19.140]And we invite students to sit down,
- [00:01:21.820]talk with a well-being coach and explore their well-being
- [00:01:25.150]in just a quick five to seven minutes.
- [00:01:28.210]We really implemented this so we can help students
- [00:01:31.190]learn more about their well-being as well as help them
- [00:01:34.600]learn more about resources,
- [00:01:38.110]including our well-being coaching.
- [00:01:42.460]Our well-being button was placed on all student canvas pages
- [00:01:46.280]this year, which is super exciting
- [00:01:48.600]because that helps students get the help
- [00:01:50.960]that they may need just by a click.
- [00:01:53.470]They connect to counseling center,
- [00:01:56.920]to the well-being assessment,
- [00:01:58.580]to a variety of different well-being resources
- [00:02:01.740]and also they can schedule a well-being coach
- [00:02:04.170]with that one click
- [00:02:06.760]Suicide prevention is a key component of what we do
- [00:02:09.700]within Big Red Resilience and Well-Being.
- [00:02:12.130]In fact, we have over 50 faculty staff
- [00:02:15.390]and student facilitators that help us
- [00:02:17.600]train suicide prevention gatekeepers across campus.
- [00:02:21.890]And this is one amazing facilitator of our REACH training
- [00:02:26.480]as it's called.
- [00:02:27.680]This is Kate Smith.
- [00:02:29.100]She is a student athlete, actually one of the top golfers
- [00:02:32.730]in the country whose passion is not only golf
- [00:02:35.820]but suicide prevention.
- [00:02:37.130]And she has created and put up different displays
- [00:02:40.480]to help promote REACH in our academic buildings.
- [00:02:44.920]Collegiate Recovery is a concern for all of us.
- [00:02:49.940]We joined a couple hundred other institutions
- [00:02:52.680]across the country
- [00:02:54.100]in developing a Collegiate Recovery Community.
- [00:02:56.930]And we are so fortunate with our friends in Resilience life
- [00:03:00.646]that we will be able to offer housing for students
- [00:03:04.510]in recovery from alcohol and drug use coming up this fall.
- [00:03:10.580]No one can say it better than John Haag
- [00:03:13.250]pictured on this slide, who is a student and founding member
- [00:03:17.250]of the Collegiate Recovery Community here.
- [00:03:19.810]He says, recovery doesn't need to be any more difficult
- [00:03:23.530]than it already is.
- [00:03:25.330]And that is why we are here
- [00:03:27.220]as a Collegiate Recovery Community to lend a hand
- [00:03:30.600]to anyone in need of support.
- [00:03:34.640]The Husker Pantry is supported
- [00:03:36.970]through Big Red Resilience and Well-Being
- [00:03:39.410]and has had a year like no other.
- [00:03:42.570]We have been able to provide food, school supplies
- [00:03:46.110]and personal items to nearly 200 students a week
- [00:03:49.920]on our campus.
- [00:03:52.650]We are located in the university health center.
- [00:03:55.740]We are right off the parking lot.
- [00:03:57.680]We have beautiful space there
- [00:04:00.140]and our well-being coaching operates out of there.
- [00:04:03.130]The Husker Pantry is located right there,
- [00:04:06.060]and we also have other areas across campus
- [00:04:08.990]where we do our outreach events.
- [00:04:11.890]Please feel free to contact us, check out our website.
- [00:04:15.920]We also are active on social media and we're always looking
- [00:04:19.520]for students to get involved with us
- [00:04:22.120]and learn more about their well-being
- [00:04:24.210]and support other students.
- [00:04:26.110]Have a great visit today and thank you so much
- [00:04:28.760]for sharing a little bit of time with me today.
