[00:00:03.697]work in the marketing office at the
[00:00:05.127]University Health Center on campus.
[00:00:06.847]Over the next few minutes, I'm going to
[00:00:08.737]give you a very brief overview of
[00:00:10.684]everything you need to know about us as
[00:00:12.454]incoming student. So let's get started.
[00:00:15.919]First, we want you to know about our
[00:00:17.599]hours and location. During the fall and
[00:00:19.739]spring semesters, we're open Monday
[00:00:21.489]through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
[00:00:23.750]Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and
[00:00:26.740]we're closed on Sundays. We are located
[00:00:29.490]on City Campus along the very Eastern
[00:00:31.769]edge. If you look at the map here, you'll
[00:00:34.029]see we're across the street from Eastside
[00:00:36.072]Suites and just south of the Beadle Center.
[00:00:39.043]We also have a picture of our building
[00:00:40.853]here so that you can recognize us next
[00:00:42.623]time you are on campus. We offer many
[00:00:46.551]different services for students to help
[00:00:48.421]them stay well during their college career.
[00:00:50.929]The convenient thing is that we're located
[00:00:53.109]on campus and everything is located in one
[00:00:55.589]building to save you time. A lot of the
[00:00:58.329]services we offer are medical services.
[00:01:00.594]Students often think of the health center
[00:01:02.825]as the place you go when you are sick or
[00:01:04.465]injured, which is definitely the case.
[00:01:06.266]However, we offer a lot more services
[00:01:08.686]than just sickness and injury care.
[00:01:10.888]That includes wellness services and
[00:01:13.209]preventive care services. Those are
[00:01:15.219]usually going to be things like your
[00:01:17.019]annual physical, wellness exams for all
[00:01:19.602]genders, birth control prescriptions
[00:01:21.762]and counseling, sexual health help and
[00:01:24.942]more. We also have specialty care services
[00:01:28.205]including optometry, psychiatry,
[00:01:30.914]Transgender health and much more.
[00:01:33.124]We have a physical therapy space located
[00:01:35.875]on the first floor of our building where
[00:01:37.775]we help Huskers who have an injury, are
[00:01:40.315]experiencing pain or maybe are recovering
[00:01:42.695]from surgery. We have physical therapists
[00:01:45.045]on staff who can get them back their high
[00:01:47.305]quality of life they had before the pain,
[00:01:50.147]injury or surgery happened. So keep that
[00:01:52.487]in mind if you ever need physical therapy
[00:01:54.107]in the future. We have a registered
[00:01:55.967]dietitian on staff who provides nutrition
[00:01:57.947]counseling services. We offer
[00:02:00.057]immunizations, STI testing, internal lab
[00:02:03.217]work and much more.
[00:02:04.928]In addition to the medical services,
[00:02:07.066]we have a dental clinic on the second
[00:02:08.946]floor of our building. Everything you can
[00:02:11.006]get done with your dentist's office back
[00:02:12.700]home, you can actually do on campus with
[00:02:14.650]us. The good thing is that our staff
[00:02:17.460]specialize in dental health for college
[00:02:19.570]students. So we know the types of concerns
[00:02:22.138]that are going to be affecting you and
[00:02:23.878]know how to treat those efficiently.
[00:02:26.246]In addition to that, our staff go above
[00:02:29.246]and beyond to put students at ease while
[00:02:31.626]they're in our clinic. We know that most
[00:02:33.756]students don't particularly enjoy going
[00:02:35.806]to the dentist, so we do everything we
[00:02:37.926]can to make sure they have as pleasant
[00:02:40.208]of an experience with us as possible.
[00:02:42.221]We have a pharmacy on the first floor of
[00:02:44.541]our building as well. You do not have to
[00:02:46.791]be a health center patient in order to use
[00:02:48.761]the pharmacy. So if you are taking an
[00:02:51.280]existing prescription, you can transfer
[00:02:53.380]that to us, or when you have a new
[00:02:55.364]prescription prescribed to you, you can
[00:02:57.134]have your doctor send it to the pharmacy
[00:02:58.864]for pickup. We also have a number of
[00:03:00.744]over-the-counter items available at a
[00:03:03.507]discounted rate. So check with us before
[00:03:05.890]going off campus because oftentimes we're
[00:03:07.940]going to be able to save you money.
[00:03:10.788]So let's say you know you need care. What
[00:03:13.209]do you do? Well, the first thing we want
[00:03:15.739]you to do is make an appointment. Due to
[00:03:18.663]the pandemic, and for safety reasons, we
[00:03:21.173]are not accepting walk-ins. However, if
[00:03:23.573]you call us for an appointment, we can
[00:03:25.418]usually work you in that same day or very
[00:03:27.472]next day depending on the severity of your
[00:03:29.322]symptoms. To make an appointment, you'll
[00:03:32.142]want to call our appointment line number
[00:03:33.822]listed here. It's a great number to go ahead
[00:03:36.704]and put in your phone right now so that
[00:03:38.464]you have it when you need it. Not only is
[00:03:40.576]this number used to schedule appointments,
[00:03:42.757]but you can also use it anytime 24/7 to
[00:03:45.647]talk to a nurse on call who can give you
[00:03:47.907]advice. If you are 18 or younger, in the
[00:03:51.517]state of Nebraska, parental consent is
[00:03:53.937]required to access health care. If you are
[00:03:57.017]18, we encourage your parent to fill out
[00:03:59.476]the health center Power of Attorney form
[00:04:01.422]available on our website. This form gives
[00:04:03.918]you, as a student, their permission to
[00:04:06.851]access the health center whenever you need
[00:04:08.481]it. You can find that form on our website
[00:04:11.324]by Googling "Power of Attorney" in the
[00:04:13.104]search bar. If you are 17 or younger,
[00:04:16.299]that form is not valid for you until you
[00:04:18.614]turn 18. In the meantime, you can still
[00:04:21.220]access care with us, we will just have to
[00:04:23.250]call your parent at the time of your
[00:04:25.120]appointment to get their verbal
[00:04:26.500]consent to treat you. How do you
[00:04:30.260]pay for care? The first thing we want
[00:04:32.520]you to know is that there are charges
[00:04:34.340]for most services at the health center.
[00:04:37.048]You do pay a student fee that covers
[00:04:39.198]some of those services, but not all.
[00:04:41.266]Usually, services that are going to be
[00:04:43.196]covered include, certain STI testing,
[00:04:45.136]certain wellness profiles, certain
[00:04:47.736]office visits, etc. Anything that is not
[00:04:51.660]covered by your student fee and has
[00:04:54.620]a charge can be handled a number of
[00:04:56.320]different ways. Most students choose
[00:04:58.560]to submit it to private insurance. We
[00:05:00.611]do participate with most major insurance
[00:05:02.860]companies. There is a full list on our
[00:05:05.457]website if you would like to check it
[00:05:06.997]out. We can submit it to the university
[00:05:09.798]student insurance plan if you choose
[00:05:11.628]to enroll in that. You can pay out of
[00:05:14.091]pocket at a discounted rate at the time
[00:05:16.121]of service, or you can apply for financial
[00:05:19.341]assistance, which is a great program for
[00:05:21.341]our students who do not have insurance.
[00:05:24.084]There is a lengthy application process,
[00:05:26.867]so we encourage you to start that application
[00:05:29.517]process soon if that is something you are
[00:05:31.778]interested in. Anything that is remaining
[00:05:34.594]that wasn't covered by insurance or paid
[00:05:36.773]at the time of the visit will be billed
[00:05:39.107]to your Student Accounts bill. You can
[00:05:41.407]pay for it usually about 30 days after
[00:05:43.920]your visit, and then you can pay for it
[00:05:46.190]along with your tuition and other expenses
[00:05:48.310]in your student account. So that was a
[00:05:51.030]very quick overview of us. If you want to
