- [00:00:00.300]Well, welcome back to our East campus tour series.
- [00:00:05.020]This is our last series
- [00:00:06.630]and we are here at the UNL Dairy Storm
- [00:00:09.750]and I'm joined by two amazing students.
- [00:00:12.107]I'm going to let these two students introduce themselves
- [00:00:15.400]tell you where they're from,
- [00:00:16.610]their majors,
- [00:00:18.300]and what their names are, most importantly.
- [00:00:21.750]I'm Shandra Spangler.
- [00:00:22.920]I'm an agricultural and environmental sciences
- [00:00:25.270]communication major from Wynot, Nebraska.
- [00:00:28.150]I'm Taryn Saner.
- [00:00:29.240]I'm also an agricultural and environmental sciences
- [00:00:31.880]communication major from Fallbrook, California.
- [00:00:34.660]Perfect and I want to give a big shout out
- [00:00:36.610]to these two students.
- [00:00:38.060]They have done an amazing job
- [00:00:39.940]of putting together as this video series.
- [00:00:42.230]Wonderful way for them to take what they're learning
- [00:00:44.690]in their classes and their academic programs
- [00:00:47.280]and apply it within the context
- [00:00:49.620]of a real opportunity to share your talent.
- [00:00:51.960]And you've both done an exceptional job.
- [00:00:53.960]So thank you for that.
- [00:00:54.950]So, as I mentioned,
- [00:00:56.210]we're here in the new UNL dairy store location.
- [00:01:00.530]So what's something that you like about this space?
- [00:01:03.723]Um I like that it's a space for community members,
- [00:01:08.330]Lincoln community members,
- [00:01:09.510]and their families and students as well
- [00:01:11.300]to kind of come together and enjoy a cool treat
- [00:01:14.130]on a warm day like today and just have fun.
- [00:01:18.220]I personally like the new location of it
- [00:01:20.360]since it's on the backside of Filley Hall now.
- [00:01:22.430]It makes people kind of explore East campus
- [00:01:24.610]a little bit more and really see the beauty that
- [00:01:26.990]we as students get to see every day.
- [00:01:29.000]And both of your programs are based, right?
- [00:01:32.010]With the agricultural leadership education
- [00:01:34.210]and communication department feed being in the same space.
- [00:01:37.180]So you could have ice cream every day if you wanted, right?
- [00:01:40.460]So this week is also our global advising week.
- [00:01:44.210]And so we want to take this opportunity
- [00:01:46.350]to do a big shout out to our amazing academic advisors.
- [00:01:50.880]We are so appreciative of all that you do for our students,
- [00:01:53.780]consistently going above and beyond for that.
- [00:01:56.730]And so let's talk a little bit
- [00:01:58.420]about your advising experience
- [00:02:00.667]and what would you like to share
- [00:02:02.600]that is something that you really value
- [00:02:05.160]as a student in your connection with your advisor?
- [00:02:08.650]Something I value as a student is whenever I'm indecisive
- [00:02:12.590]about what classes I'm going to take in the next semester
- [00:02:15.070]or I simply just don't know what to take
- [00:02:17.710]or I'm in between two classes, I can just go straight
- [00:02:21.070]to my advisor and they're there to really help me
- [00:02:24.090]and care about what my goals are for the future.
- [00:02:26.240]And my passions are and help me to choose something
- [00:02:29.110]that's going to point towards those.
- [00:02:31.910]Perfect.
- [00:02:32.743]Yeah, I agree 100 percent with what Shandra said.
- [00:02:35.080]In addition to that, the nice thing about being in CASNR
- [00:02:37.373]is that the student to advisor ratio is pretty low.
- [00:02:40.710]So you get to know your advisor really well
- [00:02:43.540]within the four years that you're here
- [00:02:45.370]and really develop that personal connection.
- [00:02:47.850]They show you every time you meet with them
- [00:02:50.330]how much they care about you
- [00:02:51.680]and really develop that relationship later on.
- [00:02:54.360]Yeah, so that really reinforces, right?
- [00:02:57.100]How important our academic advisors are.
- [00:02:59.270]They help you with your sense of belonging
- [00:03:02.030]which we know is incredibly important.
- [00:03:04.290]They help you navigate your educational experience
- [00:03:06.763]to be able to leverage all of the opportunities
- [00:03:09.360]that are out there to enhance your education.
- [00:03:12.220]And then they also help you connect
- [00:03:14.150]with potential employers looking at career opportunities.
- [00:03:18.340]And they're just there, right?
- [00:03:20.010]100 percent of the time to support you in your success.
- [00:03:22.690]So again, thank you to our academic advisors.
- [00:03:25.460]And then the final question for the two of you
- [00:03:28.310]is what is your favorite flavor
- [00:03:30.520]of dairy store ice cream?
- [00:03:32.530]I really loved,
- [00:03:33.770]I don't know the exact name,
- [00:03:34.740]but the strawberries and vanilla ice cream.
- [00:03:38.050]Scarlet and cream.
- [00:03:38.883]Yes. Scarlet and cream
- [00:03:40.340]excellent.
- [00:03:41.530]That one's a good one for me too
- [00:03:43.170]but I also really like Butter Brickle.
- [00:03:45.550]Perfect, perfect.
- [00:03:46.640]Well, thank you again for joining into our series.
- [00:03:49.270]Again, this is the last one
- [00:03:50.780]as we put close to this academic year.
- [00:03:53.520]And I just want to say thank you
- [00:03:55.130]to our CASNR community for all that you do.
- [00:03:58.870]You are an amazing community of students,
- [00:04:01.910]faculty and staff,
- [00:04:03.620]and we're very fortunate to have wonderful partners
- [00:04:05.810]and stakeholders too
- [00:04:06.760]that support our students and their success.
