- [00:00:07.450]and, we do this during their season in the fall.
- [00:00:10.440]We have a chance to sit down with the chancellor
- [00:00:12.120]from the university of Nebraska Lincoln, Ronnie Green
- [00:00:14.060]to hear about what's happening on campus
- [00:00:15.950]and great to have you back here and boy,
- [00:00:17.775]it has to feel good for you and a lot of folks, to
- [00:00:20.240]have Memorial Stadium open for some fans for this one today.
- [00:00:24.728]Well, Greg, you know,
- [00:00:25.771]it's just an absolute joy for all
- [00:00:27.321]of us to be back in Memorial Stadium, to have so many hosts
- [00:00:30.800]or fans in the stands with us today for the red white game.
- [00:00:35.270]You know, we've just endured so much over this last year
- [00:00:38.990]and a couple of months since the onset of COVID and,
- [00:00:41.855]and just to be able to be back, you know, I know. You know
- [00:00:46.580]Scott had an open practice
- [00:00:48.090]for about 3,200 people a few weeks ago,
- [00:00:50.009]It was great to see that happen, but really excited
- [00:00:53.830]for our team to be able to be
- [00:00:55.410]in front of the greatest fans in college football, and
- [00:00:57.950]for our fans to be able to be here and to see him.
- [00:01:01.242]And of course, those that are listening in
- [00:01:03.120]you know, wherever they may be at home or on the road.
- [00:01:06.180]It's just a big day for us, kind of feels
- [00:01:08.760]like a little bit of a coming out party, you know, to
- [00:01:11.380]to have the opportunity to be back in the stadium.
- [00:01:14.180]And in these last number of weeks
- [00:01:16.113]they've been able to be here
- [00:01:17.190]baseball and softball and other events.
- [00:01:20.170]It's, it's just a great, great
- [00:01:22.740]great inflection point for us.
- [00:01:24.700]No doubt.
- [00:01:25.533]Well, we are rapidly closing the books
- [00:01:27.950]on another school year.
- [00:01:29.250]You've got a week
- [00:01:30.100]with finals coming up and graduation a week from today.
- [00:01:33.440]And I know it's the time of your chancellor, when
- [00:01:35.810]the university celebrates the achievements
- [00:01:37.970]of their students, both the current ones
- [00:01:39.550]and future students that are going to be coming
- [00:01:41.500]to the university.
- [00:01:42.541]What, what have been some of the highlights for you?
- [00:01:46.293]Well, Greg, we, we are
- [00:01:48.120]we certainly are celebrating a lot of achievements
- [00:01:50.690]of our students, especially those that are working
- [00:01:53.150]up to the final days on campus, full down
- [00:01:56.050]and working up the commencement.
- [00:01:57.550]If you're in a week, we're also looking forward.
- [00:02:00.450]As you say to the incoming group of new students,
- [00:02:04.080]those students who will come in
- [00:02:05.350]as the class believe it or not 2025, right?
- [00:02:10.180]So we will graduate those students that come
- [00:02:13.440]in this fall in our class of 2025.
- [00:02:17.700]And we just set a record
- [00:02:19.630]in offering more than 6,100 university-wide scholarships
- [00:02:23.630]to that incoming freshmen class,
- [00:02:26.411]there's students that are graduating as high school seniors
- [00:02:29.070]mostly this year in 2021, and about 4 of the 5
- [00:02:32.780]Nebraska seniors who have been admitted
- [00:02:35.953]to UNL had been offered an academic scholarship
- [00:02:38.590]in that class.
- [00:02:40.020]So we're, we're excited about that
- [00:02:41.880]including the new Nebraska career scholarship
- [00:02:44.350]that same to fill in high skill
- [00:02:46.020]high demand and high wage jobs in Nebraska in the future.
- [00:02:49.379]I'm just proud
- [00:02:50.720]of everything that those students have achieved
- [00:02:53.520]in being able to get ready for
- [00:02:55.400]and be part of the Huskers community coming this year.
- [00:02:58.819]And then our, our students that are finishing
- [00:03:01.541]you know, we've, we've had a whole variety
- [00:03:03.764]of things over the last few weeks to recognize
- [00:03:06.750]especially those graduating seniors
- [00:03:09.750]including the recognition of 10 student luminary awards
- [00:03:14.440]outstanding seniors who are graduating and some continuing
- [00:03:18.550]actually in that group as well with their studies
- [00:03:22.330]students who have made an exceptional difference
- [00:03:24.480]by fostering an environment
- [00:03:25.881]of community and belonging on campus.
- [00:03:28.490]They furthered the student experience
- [00:03:30.150]through their activities across the university
- [00:03:33.030]and doing work that has benefited their peers
- [00:03:35.300]on our campus and in the community at large.
- [00:03:37.870]So 10 outstanding students were recognized just
- [00:03:40.731]about a week ago.
- [00:03:43.200]Our athletics, student athletes were recognized
- [00:03:47.476]with a little bit of a modified way in COVID this year
- [00:03:51.040]with the Huskers United to lead here just recently
- [00:03:53.820]recognizing outstanding academic accomplishments
- [00:03:57.150]of our student athletes.
- [00:03:58.420]And again, a record number of them being recognized
- [00:04:02.200]for outstanding academic achievement
- [00:04:04.300]across the 600 plus student athletes in Huskers athletics
- [00:04:09.440]And then of course, you know, we are looking forward
- [00:04:11.580]to commencement here just a week from today on we'll be back
- [00:04:17.900]in this stadium for the first time in our history
- [00:04:21.180]graduating with our undergraduate students
- [00:04:23.670]in two ceremonies in the Memorial Stadium we're excited
- [00:04:27.120]for all those upcoming graduates that will now
- [00:04:30.110]bear the distinction of a university of Nebraska degree.
- [00:04:34.490]That is fantastic. I will be there.
- [00:04:36.210]My oldest daughter's graduating next Saturday.
- [00:04:38.130]Can't wait to watch her. And all the pageantry of that.
- [00:04:41.950]James, I got to tell you
- [00:04:42.783]I was a little jealous about a week ago.
- [00:04:44.330]I saw that you had a chance to have lunch
- [00:04:45.960]with a national championship bowling team that had to
- [00:04:49.090]be a kick for you.
- [00:04:51.016]It was absolutely a kick, you know and
- [00:04:53.827]you know, outstanding group
- [00:04:55.920]of young women who can, kind of came from behind.
- [00:04:59.190]You know, there's a great story where they
- [00:05:03.014]they kind of didn't have the best start
- [00:05:06.150]to the NCAA tournament.
- [00:05:07.873]And Paul Klempa their coach actually tells the story
- [00:05:11.450]about how they found themselves on the streets
- [00:05:13.160]sitting in the rain at the beginning
- [00:05:14.500]after a loss that they didn't expect, and then to come
- [00:05:18.260]from behind and beat everybody in their path
- [00:05:22.630]including the favorites to end up as the national champions
- [00:05:26.620]for the sixth time in our NCAA bowling history
- [00:05:30.650]at the university. The funniest part
- [00:05:32.740]of the story was I had lunch with them last week
- [00:05:36.760]and they come carrying a Huskers bowling ball for me
- [00:05:40.620]signed by all the team members, and I looked at that
- [00:05:43.070]and I wonder if that's a real bowling ball
- [00:05:44.920]I'm going to have to really pull out the muscles
- [00:05:46.650]to hold that thing, you know, in the ceremony
- [00:05:49.670]but just excited for those young women
- [00:05:52.050]and the great accomplishment that they made
- [00:05:54.277]as the national champion bowling team
- [00:05:57.110]for the sixth time here, right?
- [00:05:58.423]Here at the Husker athletics.
- [00:06:00.140]Isn't that great, that's fantastic.
- [00:06:02.010]Well, chancellor, thank you so much
- [00:06:03.200]always great to catch up, enjoy the scrimmage today.
- [00:06:05.620]It's going to be so fun.
- [00:06:06.890]Just seeing our fans back in the stadium.
- [00:06:09.050]I'm sure they're going to be having a fun time
- [00:06:10.940]watching their football team compete here
- [00:06:12.450]in the next couple of hours.
- [00:06:14.560]You bet.
- [00:06:15.393]And as always go big red
- [00:06:16.440]There he is, Ronnie Green chancellor from university
- [00:06:18.740]of Nebraska with us here on our pre-game show
- [00:06:20.770]we've got more coming up from Learfield IMG College.
- [00:06:22.980]This is the Huskers sports network.
