In this video CoJMC academic adviser Bridgett Grant will tell you the basic degree requirements at CoJMC. This includes selecting your major, breaking down credit hours and information about the University's ACE requirements.

[00:00:13.553]and I am one of the academic advisors here in the CoJMC.
[00:00:16.470]Today. I'm going to be talking to you all
[00:00:17.840]about your overall CoJMC degree requirements.
[00:00:20.870]To get started, the CoJMC has four majors.
[00:00:23.900]Advertising and public relations, broadcasting,
[00:00:27.000]journalism, and sports media and communication.
[00:00:30.780]In order to receive a bachelor's degree,
[00:00:32.770]a student must complete 120 credit hours.
[00:00:35.820]In simple math,
[00:00:36.950]if you want to graduate within four years,
[00:00:39.200]you'll roughly take 15 credits per semester.
[00:00:43.170]To further break down those credits,
[00:00:45.110]43 of your 120 credit hours will come directly
[00:00:48.510]from your specific major requirements.
[00:00:50.900]The rest of those 77 credits will be broken down
[00:00:53.760]between ACE requirements, your chosen minor,
[00:00:57.020]foreign language credits if you need to complete it,
[00:00:59.480]and also some electives.
[00:01:02.910]UNL has a set of ACE requirements
[00:01:04.880]that all students will complete.
[00:01:06.630]These ACE requirements include written communication,
[00:01:10.690]math, science, humanities,
[00:01:13.210]art appreciation, and global awareness.
[00:01:15.830]CoJMC students will complete two sets of these ACEs.
[00:01:19.240]Meaning you will take two classes
[00:01:20.750]from each of these ACE categories.
[00:01:24.360]All CoJMC students are required to choose at least one minor
[00:01:27.530]that is outside of the CoJMC.
[00:01:29.680]Here are some of the options
[00:01:30.830]that we see most often with our students.
[00:01:33.750]Also, if you were interested in completing a double major,
[00:01:36.770]that double major will take place of your minor requirement.
[00:01:40.320]If you have questions about completing a double major
[00:01:42.240]or think you might be interested in completing one,
[00:01:44.300]be sure to ask your academic advisor this summer.
[00:01:48.510]CoJMC students have to complete four years
[00:01:51.230]of a foreign language.
[00:01:52.710]If you did not complete four years of foreign language
[00:01:54.980]in high school, you have two options
[00:01:56.680]to complete that requirement here in the CoJMC.
[00:01:59.710]You can choose to stick with the same language
[00:02:01.210]that you learned in high school.
[00:02:02.600]Meaning you will complete through the 202 level
[00:02:04.910]or four semesters.
[00:02:06.770]Or you can choose a new language
[00:02:08.280]and complete the 102 level or two semesters.
