Welcome back to East Campus Views! In the fourth installment of this mini-series, Dean Heng-Moss is in the East Campus Dining Hall, talking with students and the chef manager of the dining hall. Watch to find out how the dining hall and it's staff create a welcoming environment for each student that walks through the doors.

- [00:00:28.140]and I am currently a Criminal Justice major.

- [00:00:32.420]So Al, you're joining us today too
- [00:00:35.730]and you are the Chef Manager
- [00:00:37.350]here at our East Campus dining hall facility.

- [00:00:42.763]So we're going to ask our students, first of all,
- [00:00:45.280]a little bit about what they enjoy about this space here.
- [00:00:48.320]So, what do you like about the dining hall?
- [00:00:51.750]For me, the chairs are so comfortable.
- [00:00:54.080]You can see like, they are so diverse,
- [00:00:56.970]you can sit anywhere you want.
- [00:00:58.702]And second, I like the people here.

- [00:01:04.538]Personally, I like the staff very much.
- [00:01:07.050]They know everybody's name when you walk in.

- [00:01:16.467]And the opportunities that you have connections with.

- [00:01:23.560]So, what's your favorite dish?
- [00:01:26.880]For me, it's always milk.
- [00:01:28.310]But the new salad bar has saved my life.

- [00:01:34.510]Personally, I'm a big fan of the grill.
- [00:01:38.030]They make really good burgers over there.
- [00:01:40.660]Those guys always just know how to cook it right.

- [00:01:45.890]that you like to prepare for the students?
- [00:01:49.200]Well, my background is
- [00:01:51.610]I'm classically trained in French food.
- [00:01:53.370]My grandfather was a true Creole,
- [00:01:54.880]so I specialize in Creole and Cajun cooking.
- [00:01:57.830]So that's going to be Gumbo obviously.
- [00:02:01.570]But for me it's about
- [00:02:03.280]the opportunity to serve, to be of service.
- [00:02:06.270]And that's the most important thing.
- [00:02:08.280]And I think that's what we really try to do,
- [00:02:09.790]try to add value to the students' lives.
- [00:02:12.820]And to make sure that we're engaging on a daily basis
- [00:02:15.920]to make sure that we create an environment
- [00:02:17.640]that's welcoming and inviting for everyone here, so.
