- [00:00:04.990]Hello guys, my name is Blaine French,
- [00:00:06.590]I'm the Livestock Judging Coach
- [00:00:07.850]here at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:00:09.250]My main goal in coming to the University
- [00:00:10.630]of Nebraska was really
- [00:00:11.860]to get the Livestock Judging program revamped.
- [00:00:15.090]The 2020 Livestock Judging team was certainly a great group
- [00:00:17.900]to get that started.
- [00:00:19.610]You know, outside of the highlights
- [00:00:20.800]that we'll talk about here in just a second,
- [00:00:22.810]this was a really tight-knit group,
- [00:00:24.420]a group that ended up being, you know,
- [00:00:26.650]really good kids that could represent UNL
- [00:00:28.750]when we would go to operations and go to these contests.
- [00:00:30.710]But not only that, when we were on trips,
- [00:00:32.760]we were in the van, a lot of camaraderie.
- [00:00:34.940]And when it comes to highlights,
- [00:00:36.910]from the year we started in Denver there,
- [00:00:40.150]in Denver, Colorado at the National Western.
- [00:00:42.563]We had a top ten finish there,
- [00:00:44.300]and that was our goal, kinda get the year kicked off.
- [00:00:46.730]After that we had some regional contests
- [00:00:48.540]that were closer to Lincoln.
- [00:00:49.679]We traveled up to Sioux Falls, South Dakota
- [00:00:52.010]and competed in the Sioux Empire Fair,
- [00:00:53.850]where we had a top five performance.
- [00:00:56.410]We came back and competed here in the state of Nebraska
- [00:00:58.800]and over at the Iowa Beef Expo
- [00:01:00.227]where we had both of those,
- [00:01:01.730]where we were a top five team.
- [00:01:03.510]We had a couple of top 10 individuals
- [00:01:05.160]at the Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic,
- [00:01:06.580]those being Tigh Renken and Peyton McCord,
- [00:01:09.480]and then actually at the Iowa Beef Expo,
- [00:01:11.440]not only did the team finish top five,
- [00:01:13.790]but Tigh Renken ended up being the high individual
- [00:01:15.530]at that particular contest, so we were excited about that.
- [00:01:18.400]From there, we moved on to Texas,
- [00:01:20.340]went to the San Antonio Livestock Show where we competed.
- [00:01:22.457]And again was a top five team at that particular contest
- [00:01:26.100]with multiple individual awards that were given out.
- [00:01:29.130]We then were preparing to go
- [00:01:31.000]to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,
- [00:01:33.470]but of course, as for everybody else,
- [00:01:35.690]COVID kinda came into play
- [00:01:37.010]and so we were unable to make that trip.
- [00:01:38.450]And so we spent all summer working really hard
- [00:01:41.040]making sure we maintain our status
- [00:01:43.350]and kind of where we were at as a team,
- [00:01:45.340]to kinda get back and get started there in the fall.
- [00:01:47.270]We started in the fall going over to Des Moines, Iowa
- [00:01:50.480]and competing in the National Swine Show.
- [00:01:53.360]That was a great contest to get us started.
- [00:01:55.700]Went down into Kansas
- [00:01:57.060]and competed at the Flint Hills Classic
- [00:01:58.537]where again, we were a top 10 team
- [00:02:00.880]at that particular contest.
- [00:02:02.650]After that, we competed in the state of Nebraska
- [00:02:05.200]at the Fall Upgrade.
- [00:02:06.680]We were a top 10 team there,
- [00:02:08.830]as well as being top five,
- [00:02:09.940]and a couple of top ten individuals
- [00:02:11.770]at that particular contest as well.
- [00:02:14.040]From there, we decided to go to Kansas City and Louisville.
- [00:02:17.100]Those were the two majors that we competed in
- [00:02:19.400]to end out this team's run and we were lucky to be top 10
- [00:02:23.450]at The American Royal,
- [00:02:25.150]and Tigh Renken ended up being the sixth high individual
- [00:02:27.660]at that particular contest.
- [00:02:29.510]We finished out our run, at the North American International
- [00:02:32.920]in Louisville, Kentucky.
- [00:02:34.340]We finished as a seventh high team in the country
- [00:02:37.520]and again, Tigh Renken was top 10 in reasons,
- [00:02:40.080]and was named the third high individual
- [00:02:42.330]at that particular contest.
- [00:02:43.417]And this team was made of just about all Nebraska kids.
- [00:02:46.900]And so again, it was a great team to get us started
- [00:02:48.830]on the path that we're going.
- [00:02:49.809]We look forward to continuing that upward trend
- [00:02:52.190]as we continue on with the 2021 team.
- [00:02:54.970]Thank you.
- [00:02:55.803]Hi there, I'm Savannah Millburn,
- [00:02:57.360]I'm from Princeton, Missouri
- [00:02:58.890]and I'm the Assistant Livestock Judging Coach.
- [00:03:01.780]One of the best things about being around this team,
- [00:03:04.470]spending time with them,
- [00:03:05.460]is getting to meet so many people that are so devoted
- [00:03:08.170]to the livestock industry and livestock judging.
- [00:03:10.660]And it's just been great to work with them.
- [00:03:12.270]And I can't wait to see what awesome things they do
- [00:03:14.670]in the future.

- [00:03:27.180]I'm from Albion, Nebraska,
- [00:03:28.013]and my favorite part about livestock judging is getting

- [00:03:31.730]across the country to see some elite livestock.

- [00:03:38.430]And my favorite judging memory was jamming out

- [00:04:08.141]of the greatest experiences and memories I'll ever have,
- [00:04:11.550]and grown my network all the way across the country,
- [00:04:14.080]looking at some of the best livestock
- [00:04:15.640]that this world has to offer
- [00:04:17.567]and I wouldn't have traded it for anything.
- [00:04:19.470]Thank you.

- [00:04:29.967]Hi, I'm Adam Oldemeyer from Firth, Nebraska.
- [00:04:32.310]And one of the most memorable things
- [00:04:33.720]from the livestock judging team
- [00:04:35.020]that I remember is the trips that we had on
- [00:04:36.317]and all the fun and craziness
- [00:04:37.930]of all the directions
- [00:04:38.960]and whatever we ended up doing on them trips.

- [00:04:52.270]Hi, I'm Shelby Wachter.
- [00:04:53.800]I'm from Blair, Nebraska
- [00:04:55.280]and I would not trade the experience
- [00:04:57.220]of getting to travel the country
- [00:04:58.490]to see some of the best livestock in the country
- [00:05:01.040]and getting to do it

- [00:05:15.730]I hail from Bertrand, Nebraska.
- [00:05:18.480]Favorite memory with livestock judging,
- [00:05:21.100]while, with all the success we had this year,
- [00:05:23.070]would be traveling around different producers
- [00:05:25.870]and getting the privilege to see high caliber livestock
- [00:05:29.017]across the country.
- [00:05:30.310]And above all else, just the memories made
- [00:05:31.951]of an exceptional group of kids
