[00:00:12.030]forming a masonry contracting partnership
[00:00:14.530]in Omaha, Nebraska.
[00:00:16.340]Today, Kiewit is one of the largest construction companies
[00:00:19.610]in North America.
[00:00:21.360]Kiewit's a solutions provider,
[00:00:22.650]so we listen to our clients,
[00:00:23.800]we try to understand their needs,
[00:00:25.440]and then comprehensively address those needs.
[00:00:27.970]An example would be during the Great Depression,
[00:00:29.740]we were primarily a vertical building contractor.
[00:00:32.200]Then we started building highways.
[00:00:33.680]That single decision endured our success.
[00:00:36.151]During World War II, we built a key army barracks
[00:00:39.058]called Fort Lewis in Washington,
[00:00:41.030]as well as a pretty massive missile defense system
[00:00:44.070]up in Greenland.
[00:00:45.350]10 years ago, we were building nuclear and coal plants,
[00:00:47.910]and now we're building lots of solar and wind farms.
[00:00:50.370]More recently, we built the LA Rams Stadium,
[00:00:53.010]as well as the Denver VA Hospital for our veterans,
[00:00:56.100]and then a very large scale energy project
[00:00:58.590]called Cove Point,
[00:00:59.430]which is supplying lots of natural gas to Japan.
[00:01:03.200]One of Kiewit's core values is to hire the best
[00:01:06.400]and brightest people to become
[00:01:07.880]their next generation of leaders.

[00:01:34.680]also have connected us with students.
[00:01:37.400]The partnership between Kiewit
[00:01:38.690]and our business students is very beneficial.
[00:01:41.010]Kiewit is a Fortune 500 company
[00:01:42.730]headquartered in Nebraska that invests in the talent
[00:01:45.330]of our home state.
[00:01:48.260]Their challenging careers in a variety of business fields
[00:01:50.800]appeal to all of our students.
[00:01:53.400]We hosted the Nebraska Business Honors Academy freshmen
[00:01:57.070]down in Lenexa, Kansas,
[00:01:58.360]and we had planned on giving them a half day pitch
[00:02:00.480]on why they should join Kiewit.
[00:02:02.000]But instead, we asked the students to reflect
[00:02:04.140]on their upcoming professional careers
[00:02:06.060]and really plan for the future,
[00:02:07.780]and that paid many more dividends
[00:02:09.240]than us giving a sales pitch.
[00:02:12.590]We've hired more than 65 students
[00:02:14.760]between interns and full-time hires
[00:02:16.318]out of the College of Business.
[00:02:18.120]At Kiewit, we currently employ
[00:02:19.400]many alums from the College of Business, including myself,
[00:02:22.610]and the partnership is gonna be key for Kiewit
[00:02:25.250]for the future to really lead the future of business.
